Earth Week at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Earth Week Disney’s Animal Kingdom 2021

While Disney theme parks celebrate all living things every day, during the Earth Week Celebration there’s an added opportunity for Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park guests to connect with the magic of nature through engaging activities designed to educate and inspire the whole family.

From April 18 to 24, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will host limited-time experiences including unique Disney character appearances, fun learning opportunities, specialty merchandise, themed food and beverage, a new Wilderness Explorer activity, and more.

The Animation Experience at Conservation Station shows how Disney Artists bring favorite characters to life by using animals for inspiration. For the Earth Week Celebration, guests can learn to draw characters – including Dumbo, Terk, Squirt, Shere Khan, Simba and Scar – whose real-life counterparts represent amazing stories of conservation work around the globe.

Guests can catch a glimpse of some special characters who will join other favorite Disney pals on Discovery River Character Cruises.

A sampling of Earth Week eats include a selection of limited-time specialty cupcakes: the Creature Comfort’s Honey Bee Cupcake, the strawberry-flavored Flamingo Cupcake at Flame Tree Barbecue or the Sea Turtle Graham Cracker Cupcake. Specialty beverages include The Red Crowned Crane, a frozen Coke topped with frozen Cherry Coke and strawberry cotton candy; adults can spice it up with Captain Morgan Rum.

A series of self-guided, nature-themed challenges invite guests to earn a special Wilderness Explorer limited-time Earth Day Nature badge.

Earth Week Disney’s Animal Kingdom 2021

Guests can hunt for an Earth Day 2021 limited-edition Te Fiti Moana trading pin, and also support the Disney Conservation Fund by purchasing a cuddly plush inspired by species that call Disney’s Animal Kingdom home; or check out Island Mercantile’s eco-friendly water bottles, tumblers and reusable bags that promote sustainability.

Any time guests visit the park, they can marvel at unique animals and meet the newest arrivals. Most recently, the park welcomed the birth of Ranger, and guests can get a glimpse of the rambunctious 5-month-old calf and his rhino family on a journey aboard Kilimanjaro Safaris. While on safari, guests can also keep an eye out for two young Masai giraffe who were born a few months ago, and playful Nigerian dwarf goats that hang out at the warden’s outpost

Guests can watch artisans transform 40 tons of sand into a detailed sculpture celebrating National Geographic’s “Secrets of the Whales,” an original series streaming on Disney+ on Earth Day. The intricate sculpted masterpiece will be located on the Discovery Island Stage until April 30.

Planet LEGOLAND to Debut at LEGOLAND Florida

Planet LEGOLAND LEGOLAND Florida

The LEGOLAND Florida Resort is excited to introduce a world with no rules just pure creativity… PLANET LEGOLAND opening April 16, 2021!

This new immersive build experience encourages children and their parents to unleash their imaginations by building, unbuilding, and rebuilding the world of their dreams with, of course, LEGO bricks.

“During the past 12 months, we’ve all learned how resilient and creative our children are. They can play out stories, discover details and feel the sense of accomplishment when they build and play with LEGO,” said LEGOLAND Florida Resort President Rex Jackson. “With PLANET LEGOLAND, there are no rules, just unlimited creativity, empowering children to make the world a brighter place.”

Planet LEGOLAND LEGOLAND Florida

As guests enter, they will encounter a six-foot wide LEGO globe, built out of more than 200,000 bricks, awaiting their creations.

The first step is to select from one of four different themed stations where guests will create their masterpieces.

Planet LEGOLAND LEGOLAND Florida

A LEGO model of a castle spaceship sits atop the building table inspired by Dragons, Knights, and Princesses; a LEGO pirate ship with a lightbulb mast inspires those building at the Vehicles station; a LEGO surfing dragon leads creativity at the station for Ninjas; and a LEGO racing tortoise poses for inspiration at the station for Creatures and Animals.

A DUPLO station is also available for those younger guests with smaller hands. The stations are designed to encourage guests to explore their individual passions as they build, unbuild and rebuild creations using their imagination.

Planet LEGOLAND LEGOLAND Florida

Once built, guests are encouraged to take a selfie with their model and share it using #RebuildTheWorld for all to see.

The final step is to place individual models on the globe and once each child places their model, they have helped rebuild the world!

As the LEGO globe at PLANET LEGOLAND spans six-feet, guests will maintain that same distance when building in this new experience and all safety guidelines such as face masks, the use of hand sanitizer and reduced capacity will be managed.

Planet LEGOLAND LEGOLAND Florida

All bricks in the space will be “quarantined” for 72 hours after being sanitized, and the build stations will be cleaned several times a day.

LEGOLAND will host a sneak peek for Annual Passholders with an Exclusive Preview Event on April 15.

7 Reasons to #SpringItOn at the Gaylord Palms

Disclosure: I was invited to experience the Once Upon a Spring fun at the Gaylord Palms Resort, however, all opinions and exclamation points are all my own!!!

Until May 16th the Gaylord Palms Resort is inviting guests to Spring It On with extra fun during their Once Upon A Spring celebration, and we were really excited to be invited out to check out the family-friendly events and activities.

Spring it on Gaylord Palms Easter 2021

7 Reasons to #SpringItOn at the Gaylord Palms

1. Blossomin’ Bunnies Scavenger Hunt
Spring it on Gaylord Palms Easter 2021

Scavenger Hunts have become a staple of the special events at the Gaylord Palms resort, and the Blossomin’ Bunnies Scavenger Hunt is my new favorite!

With kid-friendly clues and super cute bunnies to find, the Blossomin’ Bunnies Scavenger hunt takes you throughout the 4.5 acres of indoor gardens for a basketful of fun.

2. Springtime Light Display
Spring it on Gaylord Palms Easter 2021

When the sun goes down, the St. Augustine Atrium lights up with images of blooming flowers, bunny rabbits scurrying, shooting stars, and a spring-colored kaleidoscope.

What I love about the Springtime Light Display is that they bring an extra touch of magic to the resort.

3. Paint Me a Fairytale Show
Spring it on Gaylord Palms Easter 2021

Inside the Castillo De San Marcos, the interactive show Paint Me A Fairytale takes guests on an adventure as Mother Goose uses her magic paintbrush to bring the pages of storybook favorites to life, including Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and The Princess and The Pea.

As a special keepsake, guests will take home a custom watercolor paint set and coloring book featuring characters from the show.

Spring it on Gaylord Palms Easter 2021

The Paint Me A Fairytale show is a really fun way for little ones to experience their bedtime stories!

To allow for social distancing, capacity will be limited, and advance online reservations are required.

4. Resort-Wide Spring Activities

During the Once Upon a Spring fun there is no shortage of activities to participate in around the resort!

Gaylord Palms Once Upon a Spring Easter 2021 Spring it On

Some of our favorites during our stay were the cookie decorating, the animal encounters, the animal encounters with Wild Florida, and of course the Springtime Pool Party!!!

5. Art Bar

Adjacent to the Paint Me A Fairytale in the Castillo de San Marcos is the Art Bar where you can choose from a variety of themed adult and kid-friendly beverages.

The Art Bar is a lot of fun because the drinks are unique and there is a resident ‘Artist-in-residence’ that keeps things lively!

Spring it on Gaylord Palms Easter 2021
6. Crystal River Rapids

GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Gaylord Palms is home to an AWESOME new not-so-lazy river called Crystal River Rapids that is such a great addition to the Crystal Springs Water Park!

Gaylord Palms Crystal River Rapids Once Upon a Spring Easter 2021

Inspired by spring-fed Florida rivers, Crystal River Rapids takes guests on an exhilarating ride as they twist and turn through speeding currents at three-and-a-half feet per second. As guests race past roaring waterfalls, crumbling limestone walls, and larger-than-life sprinkling leaves, they will encounter thrilling water activations that will immerse them in the nature of Florida. With a state-of-the-art sound system, heated water for year-round enjoyment, and alcoves that allow guests to stop and take in the stunning views of Cypress Springs Water Park, this new action river adventure will allow for endless family-fun.

Gaylord Palms Crystal River Rapids Once Upon a Spring Easter 2021

While I probably did about 30 laps around the Crystal River Rapids, I have to say that it was just as nice to sit in the alcoves and wait for Zoe to zoom by.

7. Commitment to Clean

When the Gaylord Palms Resort reopened in summer 2020, it debuted a variety of protocols and elevated practices in line with their high standards of cleanliness and excellent service that their STARs take VERY seriously.

I am BEYOND excited to say that the Gaylord Palm has sustained their high levels of cleanliness since our stay in July!

CFCArts Announces New Theatre Location

CFCArts, Central Florida Community Arts, has announced that their next theatre production will take place in a new location. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella will transform a vacant storefront at the Fashion Square Mall, opening on Thursday, April 15 running through May 2, 2021. Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2021. The new venue opens up the potential for more productions in the 2020-2021 season.

“We are excited to explore opportunities for producing more theatre at this location,” said Terrance Hunter, senior director of programs of CFCArts. “We are continually looking for spaces that afford accessibility for everyone and look forward to how our patrons respond to this venue.”

The Fashion Square Mall location is planned for the April production, with the potential to stage more productions in the upcoming year. This marks the first time CFCArts will mount a full production outside the black box at their current location. The former Express storefront is three times the size of the current black box theatre and along with increased square footage, the venue includes lobby space allowing for the sale of concessions, potentially beer and wine, in a safe, socially-distanced environment.

Out of the pandemic, CFCArts adopted the guiding principles of safety, flexibility, creativity, and inclusivity, that help inform decisions for in-person programming. Additionally, the Theatre Program developed pillars that expand the artistic vision and the community commitment. Included in those pillars — education, exploration, conversations that matter, community, and accessibility — is a desire to develop theater in unconventional spaces, that is also geographically accessible.

“As an organization we are focusing this year on ‘recovery’ for our audiences and our artists,” said Joshua Vickery, founder and executive director of Central Florida Community Arts. “By developing guiding principles for the organization and specific pillars for our theatre program, we are creating a path for that recovery. This venue helps us check all the boxes from safety to being geographically accessible.”

The upcoming production will adhere to the safety guidelines developed with Orlando Health. All performers and patrons will be expected to adhere to the safety guidelines available at the CFCArts website here: CFCArts safety
