Halloween Horror Nights 30: JACK IS BACK

The Universal Orlando Resort just announced that Jack the Clown is going to return as the demented face of Halloween Horror Nights as the world’s premier Halloween event commemorates its 30th year this fall!

The most notorious icon in event history, Jack’s return to Halloween Horror Nights 2021 will be fraught with terror and fear as the grisly circus clown invades every corner of this year’s event with unsuspecting “Jack Attacks” that will send guests running for their lives. His ominous and unrelenting presence will infiltrate every aspect of the event – from the streets, to the haunted houses to the places guests would least expect – leaving nowhere to turn and nowhere to hide.

Select tickets are on sale now for Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights, featuring a variety of ways for guests to customize their visit to stay, scream and save.

Guests can save up to $52 on a single night event ticket when purchasing online, and book various event upgrades like the R.I.P. Tours, a guided tour experience that provides priority V.I.P. access to the haunted houses; Behind the Screams: Unmasking the Horror Tours, a daytime, lights-on tour of the haunted houses that offers a glimpse into how the scares are brought to life; and more.

Jack Returns to Halloween Horror Nights 2021

Guests can also save up to $200 on vacation packages, starting at $149 per person, per night (based on a family of four), that include hotel accommodations, tickets to Universal Orlando’s theme parks and one-night admission to Halloween Horror Nights 2021.

Universal Orlando hotel guests also receive exclusive benefits, including access to a dedicated entry gate for the event (with valid event admission), complimentary transportation to Universal’s theme parks and Universal CityWalk, and access to an all-new, limited-time “Jack’d Up” experience at Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort – where guests get a closer look into the chaotic world of Jack and some of the sinister environments inspired by his past invasions of HHN. Plus, the hotel’s Swizzle Lounge lobby bar will transform into the “Horror Icons Bar,” featuring specialty beverages and snacks inspired by the event’s most infamous icons, and props and costumes that pay an eerie homage to Halloween Horror Nights past.

Halloween Horror Nights kicks off on Friday, September 3 and continues on select nights through Sunday, October 31, 2021.

Disney Paper Parks: Happy Haunts Part 1

Disney Paper Parks Halloween 2020

To help get everyone into the holiday spirit (see what I did there) the Disney Parks Blog is launching a new, four-part series of Disney Paper Parks inspired by Halloween and the Haunted Mansion!

These printable activity sheets will help Disney theme park fans bring a piece of the Disney Parks into their own homes, complete with instructions about how to create 3D versions of some of your favorite aspects of Disney Parks.

Today I am really stoked to share the part-one of the Disney Paper Parks series that includes Haunted Mansion home decorations!

Bring the macabre style of the Haunted Mansion into your home by printing out and crafting these spooky decorations that appeal to a variety of ages and skills. From the bats atop the queue stanchions to paper chains inspired by the Haunted Mansion’s wallpaper, the finishes will set the mood of the mansion in your home.

You also can use this release to transform your home with the spirits of the mansion using grinning ghosts shadow puppets!

Just as the Haunted Mansion is filled with illusions, the shadow puppets include rotating hand shadows, the Hitchhiking Ghosts, the Hatbox Ghost, and more (there’s always room for one more).

The Disney Paper Parks sheets were created for the Disney Parks Blog by talented Imagineers Stephanie Jazmines and Amy Young, and only require the use of scissors, glue, and folding along dotted lines in specific directions.

For best results, the Disney Parks Blog recommends printing the sheets at their actual size, not scaling them to fit the page. We also recommend adult participation or supervision for those with little ones to help make this great activity even more enjoyable.

Have fun and I can’t wait to share more Disney Paper Parks: Halloween Editionactivity sheets!

Note from the Disney Parks Blog Post: By downloading Disney Paper Parks, you acknowledge and agree that these materials are being provided to you for personal, non-commercial use.

Central Florida Zoo’s Zoo Boo Bash 2020

Central Florida Zoo Zoo Boo Bash 2020

There are typically some pretty WILD sights at the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens, but this October, it’s going to be downright spooky during Zoo Boo Bash!

Ghosts, goblins, and ghouls of all kinds will gear up to celebrate Halloween safely at the fan-favorite Zoo Boo Bash, presented by Orlando Health.

This year, the event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on select dates, Oct. 17-18 and Oct. 24-25. Zoo Boo Bash is the perfect way for children and families to safely show off those Halloween costumes and trick-or-treat while enjoying the fun of the Zoo.

The Zoo will have plenty of not-so-scary decorations and activities, including trick-or-treat stations in a designated area to ensure social distancing. Costumes are encouraged for all guests and face masks or coverings are required for guests over the age of 13—an easy requirement for many costumes!

Dino Ferri, CEO of the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens, said they are thrilled to be able to host the event this year.

“At Central Florida Zoo, we’ve always prided ourselves on creating a safe, fun, and educational environment for families,” Ferri said. “With the help of our ongoing partner Orlando Health, we have implemented necessary precautions to hold our wildly popular Halloween event while protecting the health and safety of our guests.”

There will be enhanced safety measures at this year’s event, including limited capacity and date-specific, timed entry. Timed tickets will also be required for trick-or-treating. Annual passholder blackout dates apply; however, tickets to the event are $5 per person named on the passcard.

“Zoo Boo Bash has become an annual tradition for so many families throughout Central Florida and we’re proud to be the presenting sponsor once again,” said Shawn Molsberger, president, Orlando Health South Seminole Hospital. “The pandemic has changed how we interact but we want our community to know there are ways to come together safely to have a little fun.”

Guests can purchase tickets online at www.centralfloridazoo.org/zooboo for guaranteed admission.

Howl-O-Scream 2020 at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay officially got their Halloween season started with the return of Howl-O-Scream this weekend, and we were excited that it still brought the spirit of the season with plenty of scares.

The first thing we noticed when we arrived at the park was the numerous health and safety updates. Much like the other theme parks of Central Florida, all guests entering the park are required to pass a temperature check and wear face coverings, and social distancing markers were placed throughout the park to encourage safety while waiting for rides and shows.

This year Howl-O-Scream features 10 new terrifying scare zones as well as the return of the “Fiends” show staged in an outdoor stage.

While all of the scare zones were outside, two of them, The Junkyard and The Shortcut were staged like the traditional houses where guests queued up and walked through individually. All the scare actors were situated away from the guests or were wearing facial coverings themed to their costumes.

The first scare zone/haunted house we ventured through was The Junkyard. Although it was outside, the theme and design were excellent, providing the best scares of the night. Parties were staggered well allowing time to interact with the scare actors and get the most jumps possible.

Next to the Junkyard is the entrance to the Fiends show. This is a Howl-O-Scream must see this year as they have taken it to a large outdoor stage. It is bigger and better than ever featuring great music, dancing, and all of the characters you have come to love. Guests can see it twice each nigh at 8:30 pm and 10:00 pm.

Passed The Junkyard was the creepiest scare zone of all, Little Nightmares. Staged on the dark trail alongside Sesame Place, Little Nightmares doesn’t have any jump scares or knockers, but does a solid job unsettling your soul as you walk through.

The second scare zone/haunted house is The Shortcut. Although somewhat shorter than The Junkyard, this house had more a detailed set and much scarier visuals.

Just passed The Shortcut, you unwittingly venture into danger when you stumble among carnivorous campers in Lycan Landing. Here, the only happy campers are the werewolves feasting on the poor souls who enter their campground.

After surviving the Lycan Landing you have to pass through the evil clowns and carnies in the Maniac Midway.

Next comes the terrifying toys come to life in Deadly Toys.

After you have made it this far you find yourself in a town overrun by criminals in The Escape

The final zone you come across is not a scare zone at all, but a celebration of the Día de Muertos. This colorfully decorated area features music, dancing, and characters celebrating the Day of the Dead. It is a wonderful way to end your trip around Busch Gardens Howl-O-Scream.

Tips & Tricks: Universal Orlando Halloween Testing

Universal Orlando Resort Halloween 2020

I was really excited to head to the Universal Orlando Resort for the Premiere Passholder preview of the Halloween fun testing in the park this weekend, and it’s time for some real talk about the experiences you find in both parks!!!

First, let’s talk lay of the land at Universal Studios Florida.

This weekend Universal Orland is testing daytime admission to two Universal Orlando Haunted Houses that are included with your regular admission to the park.

Universal Orlando Resort Halloween 2020

The queue for Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives can be found near Universal Music Plaza.

Universal Orlando Resort Halloween 2020

The Revenge of the Tooth Fairy queue is located just to the left of the Tribute Store.

Queues = Time for REAL TALK

I always like to look at the “worst” park of the experience before looking at the good, and with that being said the queues are BRUTAL!!!!

Universal Orlando Resort Halloween 2020

First thing that you will notice in the picture and feel is that there is no shade in a majority of the queue.

And while wait times could be posted, because of the heat it felt longer than you’d expect.

BUT instead of being a ‘Debbie Downer’…let’s talk about how to combat these two issues!!!

Make sure to pack an umbrella in your park bag to use for shade & inclement weather.

Grab a bottle of water before you enter the queue, make sure your phone is charged, & be patient.

How to be prepared for your Universal Orlando Resort visit this weekend

Step 1: Make sure you’ve downloaded and set up your official @universalorl app by linking your tickets & setting up mobile ordering (you’ll thank me for that last part later)

Universal Orlando Resort Halloween 2020

Step 2: From the house listing on the app, both houses open at 9:00 am – so no sleeping in!!! You’ll want to arrive at the park early to make sure you get in the virtual queue as soon as possible!

Universal Orlando Resort Halloween 2020

PLEASE NOTE: I would absolutely advise getting to Universal Studios Florida before it opens!!!!!!!

Step 3: You heard me…Virtual Line! These houses will be utilizing the Virtual Line Experience only! No standby!

Universal Orlando Resort Halloween 2020

Universal Orlando Resort Virtual Line Tips

  • When setting up your app, allow push notifications (you can always change this later)
  • As soon as you tap into the park look for the Virtual Line in your @universalorl app!
Universal Orlando Resort Halloween 2020
  • Put in how many people are in your party. If this doesn’t match the number in your party, you’re out of luck.
  • Only one person needs a Virtual Line time, don’t be that group!!!

Review Time

Here’s my spoiler-free review of Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives

Universal Orlando Resort Halloween 2020

The house is a solid continuation of the Universal Monster series and had consistently awesome theming.

All safety measures taken didn’t detract from the scares.

Make sure you listen to the story as you’re going through the house!

Here’s my spoiler-free review of Revenge of the Tooth Fairy:

Universal Orlando Resort Halloween 2020

Stepping into this twisted folklore tale with a Steampunk vibe is perfect for those who are new to haunted houses.

Don’t get me wrong, there were some solid scares!

Other Halloween Fun at the Universal Orlando Parks

While you’re at Universal Studios Florida, don’t forget to do the Scarecrow Stalk (video coming soon) until November 1st!!!

Universal Orlando Resort Halloween 2020

The Skeleton Bar (Cafe La Bamba) has some great theming and tasty treats for the entire family.

Universal Orlando Resort Halloween 2020

Near the Tribute Store, you’ll also find a food truck serving up HHN specialties.

Universal Orlando Resort Halloween 2020 Food Truck Menus

And for a ghoulishly good time at Universal Islands of Adventure make sure kids under 12 pick up a bag and go Trick-or-Treating at select stores.

Participating Trick-or-Treat locations have these stickers on their entrances.

Overall we had an awesome time exploring the  Halloween fun at Universal Orlando and the Team Members did an awesome job bringing the spirit of the spooky season into the parks!!!
