Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Update

Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind

During ‘The World’s Most Magical Celebration’ Press Conference, Walt Disney Imagineering announced that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, will debut in 2022.

This pavilion does have a different spin…if you will, as our friends from Xandar are opening the first “other-world” showcase pavilion at EPCOT next year, inviting us on an intergalactic chase through space and time!

Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind

Imagineers Tom Fitzgerald (left) and Scot Drake (right) shared a new look inside the Wonders of Xandar pavilion currently under construction. Here they are in the Galaxarium, which when completed will feature a planetarium-type presentation where the Xandarians show us their world, their people, and their advanced technologies.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is a family-friendly adventure, featuring a totally new type of roller coaster experience that is being developed by Imagineering for this attraction – a storycoaster that rotates 360 degrees so guests are always focused on all the action as they help the Guardians save the galaxy.

Not only that but Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will also feature the first reverse launch on a coaster in Disney history, and is one of the longest enclosed coasters in the world.

It’s a massive experience that will match the scale and adventure of the Guardians of the Galaxy films.

As part of the ongoing transformation of EPCOT, Imagineering is infusing the park with more ways to dream, to be inspired, and to connect with our world – or other galaxies, in this case.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is going to be a big step in that direction, and I can’t wait to experience it.

MagicBand+ Coming to Disney World in 2022

MagicBand+

As Walt Disney once said, “We’ll always be introducing and testing and demonstrating new materials and new systems.” Well, that promise will come true once again next year when the Walt Disney World Resort plans to release their next-generation wearable technology, MagicBand+.

It is hard to believe that the original MagicBand was introduced in 2013, and made things like park and guest room entry, retail and dining, Disney PhotoPass, and more hands-free for the first time.

While MagicBand+ will retain those popular features, and the new bands will add functionality to unlock new moments of magic.

MagicBand+
Disney

After guests enter a theme park, MagicBand+ will come alive at various times with color-changing lights, haptic vibrations, and gesture recognition.

The wearable will allow you to engage with favorite Disney moments in new ways, including:

  • Play like a bounty hunter in a galaxy far, far away and find virtual bounties throughout Black Spire Outpost in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
  • Interact with the “Disney Fab 50 Character Collection,” the golden sculptures spread throughout the Walt Disney World theme parks.
  • Experience nighttime spectaculars in a new way as you see your band light up and complement the magic in the skies, including the new “Harmonious” at EPCOT and “Disney Enchantment” at Magic Kingdom Park.

MagicBand+ will be available for purchase beginning next year, including a discounted, pre-arrival price for Disney Resort hotel guests as well as new and renewing Walt Disney World Annual Passholders.

Current MagicBands will continue to be available, too, along with the complimentary Disney MagicMobile service that extends MagicBand features, such as park entry, to smart devices.

MagicBand+ will help immerse you in Disney stories and connect with characters you love like never before.

It’s also where you can see confectionery magic being made by hand.

New M&M wall with candy sign at the Main Street Confectionery

When you step into this charming, turn-of-the-century sweet shop, one of the first new things you’ll see is the colorful candy wall, which includes 38 varieties of M&M’S and SKITTLES!

If you’re in the mood for something savory and sweet, you can now personalize your popcorn experience with multiple combinations.

Select from four popcorn flavors – caramel, rainbow fruit, buttery, cheddar – and then top it all off with a selection of M&M’S or SKITTLES candies or perhaps even with some chocolate drizzle for an extra sweet treat!

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Virtual Queue Free

The use of a virtual queue is currently paused at Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, meaning that guests may experience the attraction using a traditional standby queue.

While wait times have soared, I think this is a great opportunity for those who haven’t been lucky enough to snag a boarding group.

It’s important to keep in mind that the availability of a standby queue may be limited, is subject to change at any time without notice and that a virtual queue may be used again at a later date or from time to time.

Kids Night at the Museum was inspired by Orlando Science Center’s summer camp program. During the summer of 2020, caregivers shared their gratitude for providing a safe space for their children to learn and explore during the pandemic. The Center realized that caregivers needed a break and kids needed a place to just be kids. Based on that feedback and following the same health and safety protocols that made summer camp a success, Orlando Science Center launched Kids Night at the Museum in July 2020 to an enthusiastic response.

No two kids are alike, and neither are Kids Nights! Each event is a unique experience with new themes and activities, but it also provides the learning and discovery that accompanies all Orlando Science Center’s offerings. This fledgling event has quickly become a community favorite, winning PLAYGROUND Magazine’s Editor’s Choice for Best New Kid’s Night Out Program during their 2020 Family Favorite awards.

On the Go in MCO: Halloween Horror Nights Tips

Don’t forget that you can catch these great events and more on the Obie & Ashley Unfiltered Podcast!

Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida is Central Florida’s premier Halloween event, and this year the crowds are definitely showing up to celebrate 30 years of 30 fears.

With ten haunted houses, five scare zones, two shows, and tons of delicious treats it can be overwhelming to plan your evening…but I’m here to help!!!

On the Go in MCO: Halloween Horror Nights Tips

Finding the right ticket

Halloween Horror Nights tickets are date-specific, which also means that you will pay more for more popular nights.

Here are some dates to keep in mind:

  • Peak Nights: October 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 23, and 30
  • Better Nights: September 23, 26, 29, 30

October 3, 6, 7, 13, 14, 17, 20, 21, 24, 26, 27, 28, and 31

Universal Orlando Premier Passholders! Don’t forget your free HHN ticket on the following dates:

  • Sept. 22, 23, 29, 30
  • Oct. 6, 13, 20, 26, 27

I am always a fan of the frequent fear passes that allow guests to experience the event multiple times throughout the season!

Having the option to visit several times will give you the opportunity to enjoy things multiple times and relieves the ‘do and see everything’ pressure.

Whatever option you choose, make sure to purchase your tickets in advance to save you time and money!

To Express Pass or not to Express Pass, that is the question

Express Pass, available for an additional fee, gives HHN guests the privilege to take advantage of dedicated, shorter lines for all ten haunted houses.

If you have the budget for Express Pass, you will save TONS of time! For example, Beetlejuice had a posted wait of 85 minutes and we waited just under 15 minutes!

This is a pricey add-on to your HHN ticket, costing more than your ticket’s base price, but if you only have one night to experience the houses and the budget I would suggest the purchase.

As with HHN tickets, I STRONGLY encourage you to purchase Express Pass in advance as the price goes up closer to the event date!

Go in with a plan!

Having a plan to make the most of your Halloween Horror Nights experience is KEY!

Make sure you look at the haunted houses and scare zones in advance to make a game plan.

The most popular houses, The Haunting of Hill House and Beetlejuice, are located near E.T. Since most people will rush to those houses, try to hit the houses at the front of the park.

Once you have that plan download the official Universal Orlando Resort app, and watch the wait times on an evening before you go to get an idea of what you could experience during your visit.

Having the app on your phone is also a great tool if your plans need to change during the event.

When to arrive

Halloween Horror Nights officially begin at 6:30 pm, but the front gates typically open as early as 6 p.m.

If you have a Universal Orlando annual pass or theme park ticket on the day of your HHN ticket, you have the option to ‘Stay & Scream’.

You will need to arrive at Universal Studios Florida before it closes to daytime guests at 5 pm, to remain inside the park in designated holding areas throughout the park.

Are you a night owl? Arriving after 8:00 pm is another great option to avoid parking backups and front gate lines.

Ghoulishly Good Grub

While I wouldn’t have included food at Halloween Horror Nights in the past, I am telling you right now that it’s something you should plan to experience!!!

I’m a BIG fan of the s’mores fries!!!

I suggest taking a peek at the event-exclusive menus to find a spot for a snack along your way.

Be prepared!

When going to Halloween Horror Nights, you’ll want to be prepared for different types of weather.

I always bring a bag that is stocked with what I might need because I’ve bought way too many theme park-priced umbrellas and sweatshirts!

I look forward to experiencing HHN every year, and I hope these tips help you do the same!!!

ICON Park completes renovations

ICON Park on International drive has been buzzing with renovation projects and the opening of 12 new tenants in the past 12 months such as Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips and Blake Shelton’s Ole Red.

The Wheelhouse, the center of energy at ICON Park where guests board The Wheel and experience more attractions, great food and drinks, games, and fun, is completely remodeled. This started with tearing down the building’s front walls to create a brand-new grand entrance that includes retractable glass panels.

The new design provides the perfect synergy between ICON Park’s open-air spaces and the complex’s central building. The minute guests walk through the large doors, their adventure begins.

ICON Park
The Wheelhouse Bar

A key component of The Wheelhouse remodel was the addition of a circular bar in the center of the building. It was designed using custom-colored, hand-made encaustic cement tiles to give the bar surface a fun, Florida feel, all while complementing the ICON Park colors surrounding it. The shape of the round bar honors the design of The Wheel – a hint of what is to come. It features blush-colored glass pendants that are handblown, suggesting sea glass, and a brightly speckled terrazzo countertop adds a touch of retro glam. This mix of texture, color, and shape, makes The Wheelhouse Bar the perfect spot for a quick drink or leisurely hang out with friends.

As guests walk to the back lot of The Wheelhouse to ride The Wheel, they’ll discover the new Sky Bar. It’s a casual spot to pick up a quick drink before boarding your capsule. The bar is covered in ocean blue scallop-shaped cement tiles and accompanied by a brightly speckled terrazzo countertop. The back bar wall, painted in Flamingo Pink, is decorated with a selection of curated poster-sized vintage travel postcards, a nostalgic wink to Florida tourism over the years.

ICON Park
The Sky Bar

“When designing these bars, I wanted to create two spaces that represent the exciting, fun experience ICON Park offers its visitors and, at the same time, design them as an homage to Florida,” said designer Petra Hausberger, principal of Somerton Park Interiors.

ICON Park
Entrance to the Wheel

As part of The Wheelhouse remodel, ICON Park has also added new attractions such as In The Game ICON Park and 7D Motion Theater, a gift shop, a retail store, and new flooring inside The Wheelhouse.

To optimize all 20 acres of ICON Park’s open-air and walkable spaces, the entertainment complex has expanded the ICON Park Promenade. Thirty new kiosks have been added so guests can enjoy a unique outdoor shopping experience as they stroll along the brick promenade under festoon lights.

ICON Park
The ICON Park Promenade

“ICON Park’s recent, guest-driven enhancements are making our property the top short-stay destination for locals and tourists in Florida,” said Chris Jaskiewicz, president, and CEO of ICON Park. “These investments in money and time show our optimism, and we enjoy seeing how much our guests enjoy the updates.”

ICON Park is at the center of the Orlando Entertainment District. With free parking and conveniently located near I-4, Universal Boulevard and the Beachline, this premiere entertainment complex is easy to access for any Central Florida resident or Orlando tourist.
