Neo-contemporary world cuisine lands in the Orlando culinary scene when the newly re-imagined Hemisphere restaurant set to open this fall on the ninth floor of Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport.

Known for its epic sunrise to sunset views of the airport runway, the new Hemisphere features a $3 million re-design of the 3,000 square-foot restaurant and seats 164 guests. The stylish environment offers light wood finishes and flexible seating to accommodate groups, as well as, small parties and single diners in its signature setting. Custom wine cuvees and lounge-style seating highlight the center of Hemisphere’s unique layout.

“Hemisphere was created for travelers and locals in search of an unforgettable experience filled with dynamic views, thoughtful service, and memorable food and drinks,” noted Mark Bastis, general manager, Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport.

“We have embraced the unmatched, panoramic views of one of the most active international airports as the focal point of Hemisphere. Guests are transported into a world of travel-rich sights, sounds and tastes. With a floor-to-ceiling glass wall facing the airport runway, guests will view planes etching through the starlit sky and rockets launching into space. Guests satisfy their inner curiosity with air and space travel among an upscale dining atmosphere,” continued Bastis.

Paper Planes – Local Art Installation

Following a local artist search, Damon Dewitt was hand-selected to craft the signature entryway art installation at the re-imagined Hemisphere restaurant. Paper Planes is physically and metaphorically light and reflective evoking a nostalgic flight experience and embracing the sense of wonder and travel from a simpler time.  The art installation is showcased in the new entry of Hemisphere and follows the curvature of the signature spiral staircase to the Upper Deck.  The handcrafted “paper” airplanes float on 15 rows of vertical, stainless steel wiring for a sleek yet simple display.

Led by Executive Chef Jeffery Powell, Hemisphere’s culinary team has designed a menu that infuses robust international flavors and seasonal local ingredients. Dinner highlights include Moroccan-inspired, dukka-crusted Lamb Chops, Grilled Gulf Prawns and a Wagyu Grass-Fed Beef Burger.

The Hemisphere beverage menu complements the world kitchen concept with a carefully curated collection of wines and cocktails from each hemisphere. The wine cuvees are filled with 16 wine varietals from different regions around the globe. Wine Flights rotate daily and guests may simply select a direction to travel:

  • Up North – A selection of wines from the northern hemisphere

A Trip To Vivoli Il Gelato At Disney Springs

Vivoli Il Gelato At Disney Springs

What better way is there to celebrate National Ice Cream Cone Day than by visiting Vivoli il Gelato at The Landing in Disney Springs!

For 85 years this world-famous gelato shop from Florence, Italy, has shared their family’s hand-crafted recipies with the world. And just last year the family opened their second storefront in history at Walt Disney World.

Vivoli Il Gelato At Disney Springs

Vivoli il Gelato was founded in 1932 by Raphael and his two brothers, Vivoli Gelateria started out as a dairy – at that time, it was not easy to find raw materials such as milk, eggs and sugar and there were no gelato machines and freezers.

Vivoli Il Gelato At Disney Springs
Photo: Vivoli Il Gelato

After World War II, technology enabled the brothers to follow their passion and produce gelato every day – a far cry from the early recipes that relied on barrels filled with ice and snow from the nearby mountains to keep their concoctions frozen.

With a “cone-a-copia” of 24 authentic flavors to choose from, Vivoli il Gelato offers everything from a classic cream to a sultry brandied cherry. Fresh ingredients such as cocoa powder, pistachio, and hazelnut add rich and succulent undertones to these sweet masterpieces that could have easily served as Michaelangelo’s muse.

Vivoli Il Gelato At Disney Springs
All the regular flavors at Vivoli Il Gelato are gluten and free, and the flavors with the blue handles are dairy free.

There is no better way to celebrate National Ice Cream Cone Day than by taking a quick trip to Italy through Vivoli Gelateria at The Landing in Disney Springs.

Nine Things To Order At Via Napoli

Via Napoli Epcot Italy Pavilion 2016 Menu

Via Napoli opened their doors at Epcot in the Italy Pavilion in 2010, and they just celebrated serving their millionth pizza with a luncheon with familiar favorites and highlights from their new menu featuring new salads, pizzas, pastas, and more.

Chef Charlie Restivo heads up the culinary team at Via Napoli, and he let us in on the secret to the success of Via Napoli. And he attributes the popularity of the pizzas to the recipe and specifically the components they use to create the pizzas. According to Chef Charlie, it all starts with the dough, which is his signature recipe that he’s brought into each of the restaurant’s he’s opened for Patina. The water Chef Charlie uses as part of his dough at Via Napoli mirrors the same properties as the water found in Naples – a hard water – that when mixed with Caputo “00” flour provides the perfect texture, elasticity and chew. Topped with only the finest ingredients (including san marzano tomatoes, Fior Di Latte mozzarella and prosciutto di Parma) Via Napoli’s pizzas are regarded as some of the best in the country.

But Chef Charlie doesn’t only excel at making pizza, and his other signature dishes are another part of what makes Via Napoli one of the best Italian restaurants in Central Florida.

I really enjoyed everything we sampled at Via Napoli, and with so many new and old favorites I thought I would share some of my favorites.

National Doughnut Day Deals

This is not a drill…Today is National Doughnut Day, and while we celebrate the glorious doughnut we are also celebrating The Salvation Army and the great work that they do!

Held annually on the first Friday of June, Doughnut Day was established by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor The Salvation Army’s “Doughnut Lassies,” who served the treats to soldiers during World War I. The “Doughnut Lassies” are often credited with popularizing the doughnut in the United States when the troops returned home from war.

The Salvation Army celebrated the first National Doughnut Day in Chicago in 1938 to help raise funds during the Great Depression and commemorate the work of the “Doughnut Lassies.” The doughnut now serves as a symbol of all the social services The Salvation Army provides to those in need. The Salvation Army still serves doughnuts, in addition to warm meals and hydration, to those in need during times of disaster.

To celebrate the day, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and Dunkin’ Donuts for some pretty sweet deals!

May 15th Morimoto Asia, the first pan-Asian dining experience created by Japanese Master Chef Masaharu Morimoto, opened Morimoto Asia Street Food offering delectable street food selections in a new to-go concept.

The new extension of one of my favorite restaurants at Disney Springs has some great options from a cross-section of popular, good-value menu items reflecting the range of flavors from across the Asian continent.

The Morimoto Asia Street Food menu is broken down into sections, and here is a look at what I tried on my first visit!

The Morimoto Baby Back Ribs ($10 – 3 ribs) are pork ribs with a hoisin sweet chili glaze served with a cilantro garnish that are addictive with just the right mix of sweet and spicy. These ribs are my favorite dish at Morimoto Asia, and I highly recommend giving them a try!

The pork egg rolls ($8 – 2 pieces) are the best egg rolls I have ever had! What sets these egg rolls apart is how the seasoned to perfection pork plays against the crispy cabbage and vegetables.

Noodles

The Chilled Sesame lo-mein noodles ($12) have a sesame peanut sauce mixed with Napa cabbage, cilantro, thai basil, and peppers that is the perfect choice for a light lunch entree or side dish perfect for sharing.

Bao Tacos

The Bao Tacos are ‘tacos’ made of steamed Asian bread buns are a food trend you will want to try!

The kalbi bao ($10 – two bao tacos) is made with short ribs, kimchi, scallions, lettuce, and cucumber, and it was my favorite bao taco on the Morimoto Asia Street Food menu. The acid of the kimchi cuts through sweetness of the glaze on the short ribs and the cool crunch of the cumber cuts through the heat of the kimchi. It is a lovely combination of flavors.

If you are looking for a more familiar flavor, you may want to try the chicken teriyaki bao ($8 – two bao tacos) that has a teriyaki glazed piece of chicken served with spicy mayo, cucumber, and lettuce.
Sushi

The “Sushi(rito)” shrimp tempura roll ($8) has shrimp tempura, lettuce and cucumber rolled with nori and sesame sprinkled sticky rice to create a roll that is easy to eat on the go. The roll is roughly the equivalent of four traditional pieces of a sushi roll.

This won’t be my last visit to Morimoto Asia Street Food, because I really enjoyed that the dishes were easy to share and a good value with a view of the beautiful spring of Town Center.
