Universal Parks & Resorts Announces Texas Park

Universal Parks & Resorts

Universal Parks & Resorts announces a one-of-a-kind theme park, unlike any other in the world, specifically designed to inspire fun for families with young children.

The new park concept, set in a lush green landscape and featuring immersive themed lands, celebrates Universal’s iconic brand of entertainment, humor, and innovation. It brings to life its beloved characters and stories in ways that will wow even the youngest theme park goers.

Universal Parks & Resorts selected the city of Frisco, in North Texas, as the area for this new concept, given the city’s growing population and ability to attract businesses to the area. The proposed location for the new concept is ideally situated east of the Dallas North Tollway and north of Panther Creek Parkway.

“We are excited about the opportunity to partner with the city of Frisco and Mayor Cheney as we work to bring this innovative, new concept to life designed specifically for a younger generation of Universal fans,” said Page Thompson, President of New Ventures, Universal Parks & Resorts. “We think North Texas is the perfect place to launch this unique park for families given its growing popularity within this part of the country.”

The proposed park will be designed to be more intimate and engaging for younger audiences and will be sized for a regional audience.

It will be full of family-friendly attractions, interactive and playful shows, character meet and greets, unique merchandise, and fun food and beverage venues.

Although smaller, it will still carry the same quality as Universal’s other larger resort destinations.

“Frisco is one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. and has been recognized as a great place to plant professional roots and raise a family,” said Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney. “This new Universal concept will continue to enhance our tax base, expand employment opportunities and bring even more fun to Frisco benefiting our residents, businesses, and visitors.”

Part of 97 acres of land recently purchased by the company, the proposed park also has plans for an adjacent themed hotel and room for expansion.

The entire area is intended to have a completely different look, feel, and scale than Universal’s existing parks and will appeal to a new audience for the brand.

More details about the project will be revealed over time.

What’s Next for Walt Disney World Nighttime Spectaculars

Fan-favorite nighttime spectacular “Happily Ever After” returns to Magic Kingdom Park on April 3, featuring all-new projections down Main Street, U.S.A. “Disney Enchantment” will be offered through April 2.

And as we shared at D23 Expo in September, an all-new nighttime spectacular is planned to debut at EPCOT later this year.

But, before the new show launches, “EPCOT Forever” will be back as an interim show over the skies of World Showcase Lagoon starting April 3. Similar to how it appeared in 2021, “EPCOT Forever” is the perfect offering while the Entertainment team preps the Lagoon, including a phased removal of fireworks platforms following the final “Harmonious” performance on April 2.

A limited-time spectacle of lasers, lighting, special effects, and fireworks, “EPCOT Forever” returns with a collection of songs that offer both a trip down memory lane and a look toward the future.

Inside Look Program at SeaWorld Orlando

Inside Look Weekends at SeaWorld Orlando 2019

SeaWorld Orlando just announced the return of the park’s highly-anticipated “Inside Look” program for two weekends in January.

It’s an annual experience that brings guests behind the scenes to learn more about animal care at one of the world’s leading zoological organizations.

Guests will be able to visit places, meet people not available to the public, and see the conservation work SeaWorld’s animal care experts do around the clock.

The event runs during the weekends of January 7 & 8 and January 14 & 15. “Inside Look” experiences are included in regular park admission, but this event is extremely popular and highly attended, so guests are encouraged to arrive early to access this exclusive offering.

“At SeaWorld Orlando, we are always looking for ways to inspire guests to be advocates for animal conservation,” said Kyle Miller, Park President of SeaWorld Orlando. “Inside Look is a way to showcase the hard work our animal care specialists do behind the scenes and educate future generations about how they can help protect endangered species and marine habitats for years to come.”

There will be many incredible exclusive experiences returning to SeaWorld Orlando’s “Inside Look” program this year and a few exciting new ones, including:

SeaWorld Orlando Inside Look Weekend
SeaWorld Orlando

Inside Marine Mammal Care: Guests can experience a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to care for dolphins, sea lions, and whales, from feeding to a poolside encounter led by animal care specialists. With this experience, visitors can better understand the role that learned animal behaviors play in wellness checks and see the team applying those behaviors to perform vital health examinations with the animals in their care.

SeaWorld Orlando Inside Look Weekends 2022

Inside the SeaWorld Rescue Center: Guests can visit the home base of the SeaWorld Rescue Team to meet and hear from the dedicated filtration experts, animal care personnel, lab technicians, and veterinarians who work around the clock to deliver life-saving care to animals in need. Guests can learn more about SeaWorld’s Rescue Center, which has the capacity to care for hundreds of animals. SeaWorld’s Rescue Teams have aided over 40,000 sick, injured, and orphaned animals, giving them a second chance at life.

Inside Look at SeaWorld Orlando 2019

Inside Aquarium Experiences: Guests can catch an exclusive glimpse at SeaWorld’s many aquariums, including Shark Encounter and Manta Aquarium, from a birds-eye view or from underneath the tank itself. They will be able to learn what goes into keeping SeaWorld’s animals healthy and how animal care experts maintain animal habitats to mirror wild environments closely.

SeaWorld Orlando Inside Look Weekends 2022

Inside Pacific Point Preserve: A NEW addition to last year’s program, guests can take a behind-the-scenes look at the home of our California sea lions and harbor seals. They can hear stories and gain insights from the animal care specialists who care for them daily and learn what it takes to maintain a thriving sea lion social group.

SeaWorld Orlando Inside Look Weekends 2022

Inside Orca Encounter: There is more for guests to learn with exclusive backstage access at Orca Encounter. They will meet and hear from dedicated animal care specialists who safeguard the health and well-being of our killer whales. Park guests will also see where hundreds of pounds of fish are prepared each day, check out our larger-than-life whale toys, and visit our medical pool and habitat pool system to better understand the dynamics of caring for SeaWorld’s largest residents.

SeaWorld Orlando Inside Look Weekends 2022

Inside Wild Arctic: Visitors will step behind the scenes into the maze of back hallways that provide service access to the beluga whales and harbor seals that call Wild Arctic home. Plus, guests will meet the team members who spend their days caring for these incredible animals.

“The behind-the-scenes experiences that are part of Inside Look shed a light on the exceptional care, and round-the-clock work our Rescue Team and animal care specialists provide to sick and injured marine animals,” said Jon Peterson, Vice President of Zoological Operations at SeaWorld Orlando. “We are thrilled to be able to show our guests the world-class operations in our park and the dedication of our teams to protect and care for all our animals, including some incredible species, to try to help avoid their extinction.”

Presentations & Animal Care Specialist Talks

Guests will also be able to participate in special presentations and animal care specialist talks at select times throughout the day. They will be able to meet members of the SeaWorld Rescue & Dive Teams, respectively, during exclusive meet-and-greet opportunities at the Rescue Center. They’ll hear firsthand stories of how it feels to rescue and return animals in need from the Rescue Team, learn the basics of diving and discover some little-known secrets of what it takes to be a part of the dive team.

One of our most anticipated care talks during this year’s “Inside Look” will be centered around Ridgway, the baby dolphin rescued in July. Guests will get an “inside look” into Ridgway’s everyday care, his rescue and rehabilitation journey, and a unique opportunity to watch his bottle-feeding conducted by one of our animal care specialists.

Family Activity Zone Returns

Back by popular demand, the Family Activity Zone will return to “Inside Look.” Guests won’t want to miss the special games, crafts, and activities SeaWorld Orlando will have set up for kids and families. It’s another fun way for the park’s youngest guests to learn more about the amazing animals that call SeaWorld home and how they help the environment we share!

World Class Animal Care, Accredited and Regulated by Experts

SeaWorld Inside Look offers a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes of one of the world’s foremost zoological organizations.

Its team of more than 1,000 animal specialists maintains the highest animal welfare and veterinary care standards for one of the largest zoological collections in the world.

SeaWorld Orlando Inside Look Weekend
SeaWorld Orlando

SeaWorld is regulated by various government authorities focused on animal welfare. For example, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal Plant Health Inspection Service performs routine, unannounced visits to SeaWorld to ensure adherence to federal standards and regulations.  The visits include a review of the physical premises, records, husbandry practices, program of veterinary care, and animal handling procedures to ensure that SeaWorld meets and/or exceeds the required standard of care.

SeaWorld is also regulated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric (NOAA) National Marine Fisheries, the primary federal agency responsible for the stewardship of living ocean resources and the marine habitats on which they rely.  NOAA enforces guidelines in-laws, such as the Marine Mammal Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act.

SeaWorld is accredited by third-party organizations, including the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) and the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums (AMMPA)

SeaWorld Orlando Inside Look Weekends 2022

Achieving and maintaining accreditation from these groups is a rigorous evaluation process in areas beyond government regulatory agencies’ scope.

For example, reviews of social settings, team training, habitat enrichment, medical facility, food and water preparation, guest interactions, education programs, and more.

SeaWorld has also earned the Humane Certified seal from American Humane, the world’s largest certifier of animal welfare.  Reviews and accreditations by these organizations represent the highest standards of care and welfare for specific species.

Dedicated to Marine Animal and Ecosystem Conservation

The commitment of SeaWorld extends beyond the animals in residence. The SeaWorld Rescue team is on call 24×7 to help animals anywhere they are needed.  The team logged a combined total of over 50,000 miles in 2021 to rescue animals in need, equivalent to circling the Earth over six times. The team has helped more than 40,000 animals, making it one of the world’s largest marine animal rescue organizations.

SeaWorld also advances the science of marine animal health through the study of animals in its care, partnerships with leading academic institutions, and with SeaWorld Conservation Fund grants to organizations focused on marine animal rescue and rehabilitation, conservation education, habitat protection, and species research.  Since 2003, Fund grants have been made to support 541 marine-specific conservation projects on all seven continents.

Orlando Fringe ArtSpace Opening Soon

Fringe ArtSpace

Orlando Fringe announced the Grand Opening of their year-round performing arts space Fringe ArtSpace in Downtown Orlando to be held next Wednesday, January 11, 2023.

Starting at 5:30 pm, Fringe ArtSpace Grand Opening Bash open house and street party is free and open to the community.

It will commence with a ribbon cutting with Orlando Mayor Dyer and feature a live DJ, strolling entertainment, drinks, and two special preview performances of the Fringe Winter Mini-Fest.

Fringe ArtSpace

The 9,100 square foot Fringe ArtsSpace includes two performing theatre spaces: a mainstage with 166 seats and a black box with 40-60 seats.  The Grand Opening Bash will also serve as a fundraiser, with all donations benefitting Orlando Fringe and Fringe ArtSpace.

“We listened to artists, patrons and community members, and we are excited to have everyone join us at the Grand Opening Bash on January 11 to launch this amazing new space,” says Executive Director of Orlando Fringe Alauna Friskics.  “This curated season is just the beginning.  We have so much more in store and are looking for many more ways to bring artists together and let their voices and stories be heard.  Stay tuned for much, much more.”

Fringe ArtSpace is also delighted to announce its all-new programming lineup to kick off 2023.

“We are absolutely thrilled to finally announce the spring season of the MainStage theatrical programming at Fringe ArtSpace!” says Joshian and Kayla Kelsay Morales of Kelsay + Morales Company.  “This is a truly exciting occasion, as we have come together to create a performance space that truly represents and serves the needs of our community.  At Fringe ArtSpace, the programming will be a living, breathing model that continues to evolve and adapt based on the needs of our community.  We look forward to hearing from local artists and working together to create the best possible experience at Fringe ArtSpace.”

Fringe ArtSpace 2023 Programming

January 12-15, 2023

Fringe Winter Mini-Fest: The 7th annual Winter Mini-Fest is a 4-day curated theatre festival with the best of past festivals, new works by fan favorites and brand new artists scouted from the international Fringe circuit.  With 18 artists performing several times throughout the weekend, there are plenty of opportunities to experience Fringe for the first time in the new Fringe ArtSpace.

January 26-29, 2023

VarieTEASE GENESIS by BlueLaLa Entertainment: An extension of the last installment of VarieTEASE On The Move, which tells the story of the closing of the unique theatre, THE VENUE, and the four years following, this dance performance was specially created by Blue for the launch of ArtSpace.  GENESIS embodies the growth, healing and start of anew, but have no fear, the nostalgic avant guard story telling that is VarieTEASE is very apparent and lends itself to the part of the plot that “makes no sense”, and audiences won’t want to miss the new featured talent that is the future of this legendary ensemble.  Consider this a rebirth 20 years in the making.

February 3-5, 2023

CARRIE the Musical by William Daniel Mills Theatre Company: CARRIE The Musical is a thrilling and engaging retelling of Stephen King’s classic thriller novel Carrie.  It tells the story of Carrie White, a teenager from a small town in New England, who is relentlessly bullied at school for being different and is harshly controlled at home by her fanatical mother.  It’s gonna be “a night you’ll never forget.”  This is the first production as part of a new collaboration between Fringe ArtSpace and the William Daniel Mills Theatre Company to provide a home venue for the amazing young artists that make up the theatre company.

February 17-March 5, 2023

Middletown by Kangagirl Productions & Ant Farm: A deeply moving and funny new play by acclaimed writer Will Eno that explores the universe of a small American town featuring an all-star cast directed by Orlando Fringe Festival Lifetime Achievement Award recipient David Lee.  As a friendship develops between longtime resident John Dodge and new arrival Mary Swanson, the lives of the inhabitants of Middletown intersect in strange and poignant ways in a journey that takes them from the local library to outer space and points between.  Middletown, which is modeled after Thorton Wilder’s classic play Our Town, will draw together artists from across the Central Florida community to collaborate on a very special production.

March 9-11, 2023

A Quarter of A Century…and then some! by Beth Marshall Presents: Arius has been on this Earth for A Quarter of A Century…and then some.  Throughout his evolutions around the sun he has learned so much, but also has unlearned or recalibrated some of those learnings to fit his morality of understanding them.  Through brave exploration, vulnerability, self discovery, reflection, discipline, love and motivation, Arius has found the new hobby of growth.  He continually finds ways to improve on himself, do the inner work and share his light and joy.  By mixing comedy, drama, rap, R&B, spoken word, dance and songs to share his evolution of growth as a Black queer artist in 2022, Arius tells the story of his 25+ years of what he has learned and unlearned.

March 17-19, 2023

Our Lady of the Tortilla/Nuestra Señora de la Tortilla by Descolonizarte TEATRO: This comedy tells the story of an intergenerational, Latinx family in the U.S. struggling with tradition, culture, language, love, and… each other!  Everything changes when the pious tia (aunty) sees the Virgin Mary on a tortilla, and family ties are put to the test.  Written by Emmy and National Hispanic Playwright Award Winner, Luis Santeiro.  The play is in Spanglish (Spanish and English) with Spanish and English supertitles, and it features live music.

May 16-29, 2023

Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival: A 14-day arts festival, the Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival is the longest-running Fringe Theatre Festival in the United States, celebrating 32 years as “Orlando’s Most Unique Cultural Experience.”  This year, the Purple and Teal venues will be located at Fringe ArtSpace.

“Fringe ArtSpace is the right balance of retro Fringe meets right NOW,” says Beth Marshall.  “Veteran creators are given a supportive platform with the proper resources to create and produce original work often amplifying underrepresented voices and mentor up-and-coming artists.  Who wouldn’t want to be a part of this!”

Fringe ArtSpace

Tickets on sale now for Fringe ArtSpace located at 54 West Church Street, Orlando, FL 32801.  For more information on upcoming shows and ticket purchase, visit www.fringeartspace.org.
