LEGOLAND Florida Opens The World Of Chima

LEGOLAND Florida Celebrates Opening of

The LEGO World of Chima Presented by Cartoon Network

The World of Chima

Expansion Features Thrilling, Interactive Water Ride and Play Areas

Today LEGOLAND Florida celebrates the opening of The LEGO® World of Chima presented by Cartoon Network today, and we were able to visit for Media Day yesterday.

The World of Chima

The World of Chima is a new direction for LEGOLAND Florida, as it marks the first of many highly-themed areas that will be coming to the park in the years to come.

The World of Chima
The Quest for Chi entrance

The Quest for Chi, is the centerpiece attraction for The World of Chima, and features an interactive water ride where guests will join in the battle to protect the Chi and get SOAKED!

The World of Chima
As you walk up to The Quest for Chi, watch out!!! There are water cannons for a reason!!!

On The Quest for Chi after boarding your watercraft, families can use water cannons activate the story in each of the scenes along their journey as well as have a chance to battle other boats and guests along the shore line.

The World of Chima

The Quest for Chi is a fun attraction! The controls for the ride are simple for children to operate without help from adults and the theming is age appropriate.

The Quest for Chi
A closer look at The Quest for Chi water cannons.

Some things to keep in mind while you’re riding The Quest for Chi…

The World of Chima

  • Each boat has 2 rows of cannons with benches for you to sit, but you can also stand.
  • As you load your watercraft, the benches on the side closest to the load area are a little dryer…just a little tho!
  • YOU WILL GET WET!!! Please head this warning, and watch out for your cameras and phones!!!

The only height requirement for The Quest for Chi is that riders under 48” must ride with a supervising companion.

The World of Chima

Cragger’s Swamp Play Area is a water play area for younger guests that features playful bubbles, intermittent water spouts, and interactive elements that trigger swamp water effects.

The World of Chima

The models in Cragger’s Swamp are pretty awesome and the water cannons are a lot of fun! I almost got soaked from the water spouts that go off as you get closer to them!

The World of Chima

The World of Chima
This is my favorite model in Cragger’s Swamp!

At the Speedorz  Arena, guests can take part in a multiple players battle against each other using rip cordpowered LEGO vehicles. The Arena is under shade, and there are benches for parents to sit which is a huge plus for this area!!!

The World of Chima
The Speedorz Arena is a lot of fun!

The World of Chima

The World of Chima also features a character meet and greet area, located near Razar’s Bazaar.

Razar’s Bazaar is the merchandise location that carries the latest LEGO Legends of Chima building sets, costumes, and other Chima merchandise.

LEGO Legends of Chima fans also shouldn’t miss the new and exclusive to LEGOLAND Parks and Discovery Centers 4-D movie experience, The LEGO Chima Movie Experience.

The World of Chima
Adrian Jones, LEGOLAND Florida General Manager

“The World of Chima will become a signature land for LEGOLAND Florida and provides an experience unlike any other in our park today,” said Adrian Jones, LEGOLAND Florida General Manager. “Developing and opening yet another expansion is a prime example of how LEGOLAND Florida continues to provide unique guest experiences, rides, shows and attractions for families with children ages 2-12.”

The World of Chima

The World of Chima features:

  • 2 million LEGO bricks, (bringing the total of LEGO bricks found in
  • LEGOLAND Florida to an astounding 58 million)
  • Nearly 150 LEGO models
  • 219,000 gallons of water in The Quest for CHI
  • Capacity for approximately 1,200 guests per hour to experience The Quest
  • for CHI ride
  • Mount Cavora which stands 55 feet from the ground
  • Mount Cavora itself is 23 feet high and 40 feet in diameter
  • Weighs 7,500 lbs.
  • Rushes 1,000 gallons of water every minute

We really enjoyed our visit to The World of Chima at LEGOLAND Florida, and I know that we are going to have to pry Zoe out of here!!!

Happy Memorial Day!

Memorial Day

“Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.” – John F. Kennedy

On Memorial Day, we pause our lives for a day to honor, remember, and celebrate the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our freedom.

We should never forget these sacrifices, and hope that they don’t have to be made again by future generations.

Thank you seems like such a small gift to give to those who have served our country, but I give it with all of my heart.

LEGOLAND Florida – Summer 2013 Park Expansion

In the 18 months that LEGOLAND has been open in Florida, they have kept busy with numerous additions…

IMG_2314IMG_2317

But yesterday LEGOLAND FLORIDA announced a major park expansion that promises to be epic.

We’re talking a whole new natural resource here…CHI! We will be the first to get this new resource straight from The World of Chima!

This expansion will be one of the centerpieces of the new LEGO Chima brand, which already includes a major LEGO product line, a stunningly animated television series to air on Cartoon Network and multiple interactive video games and apps. LEGOLAND Florida is the only place in the world that LEGO fans can go to unleash the power and be fully immersed in The World of Chima, providing an experience like no other.

IMG_2322

LEGOLAND Florida’s newest expansion is the first time a theme park has put so much into a brand new product line. While Legends of Chima maybe one of the newest brands of LEGO, it has taken off to a whole new level.

“This is the first time a theme park has invested in a major expansion concurrently with the rollout of a new brand and product line, and it was an easy decision based on how well LEGO Legends of Chima has been received by children and those who are young at heart around the world,” said LEGOLAND Florida General Manager Adrian Jones. “This is also a reflection of the overall success of the park, which has already enabled us to open a new Water Park and build multiple new attractions during the past 18 months.”

IMG_2324

Now is the time that I should probably tell you what this “CHI” is, right? (Hang on while I do some research…)

CHI is a water-like substance. All of the animal tribes (lion, eagle, croc, raven & wolf) of Chima can use it when it turns into blue orbs. The tribes need it to power vehicles and machines. Bonus! It can also give them speed, stamina and strength. (Do you get it now? You should ask your child, they can probably explain it better.)

IMG_2356

This land, set to open Summer 2013, is focused around a water ride called, The Quest for CHI.

The Quest for CHI will be the centerpiece of the new World of Chima at LEGOLAND Florida and will be an interactive, family-friendly water ride,. Guests will enter The World of Chima through a fantastical stone and moss covered entrance which leads to the Lion Temple at the base of the majestic 45-foot tall floating Mount Cavora. There, guests will explore a diverse landscape setting and join the Lion Tribe in an epic battle to recover the stolen CHI orbs. Guests will board a watercraft which will take them on an interactive experience using water cannons to help their hero, Laval the Lion Prince, defeat Cragger the Crocodile King as he attempts to steal the precious supply of CHI. The journey will take them through the land of Chima where they will meet some of the highly advanced animal tribal habitats, including the Rhino Quarry, Raven’s Roost, Eagle’s Nest, Wolves Encampment, Gorilla Forest and Crocodile Swamp among other imaginative settings.

IMG_2330 IMG_2332 IMG_2337 IMG_2338

There will also be a 4D movie that will put you right into The World of Chima.

Also there will be a Speedorz Arena, where guests can build ripcord powered vehicle models out of LEGO bricks and compete against each other.

IMG_2341

And the kids will also get the chance to meet their hero Laval the Lion Prince and Cragger the Crocodile King at daily character meet and greet sessions in the World of Chima expansion.

Another cool aspect of this new expansion is the partnership with Cartoon Network and the show that is airing on the station.

IMG_2351

“This is a great opportunity to continue the successful relationship that Cartoon Network has had with LEGO Group,” said Cartoon Network Chief Marketing Officer Brenda Piper. “We are always looking to expand the Cartoon Network brand to reach children outside the world of television and what better way to do that than by bringing the Legends of Chima to life at a theme park.”

As the presenting partner, Cartoon Network will have a major presence in the park during the summer months, and beyond. In addition, Cartoon Network will have screens placed around the park that will consist of other content from the network including the hit original series, Adventure Time.

It’s crazy to me that the construction site looks like this now and in just a few short months we’ll all be back to see this awesome new place and get immersed in The World of Chima.

IMG_2362 IMG_2363 IMG_2368IMG_2375 IMG_2377 IMG_2378 IMG_2380 IMG_2379

Being the huge LEGO fan that I am, I know that I’m ready for it! I can’t wait to check it out and see all that The World of Chima has to offer!!

The Backside (s) of LEGOLAND Florida

Backside of snowman
Backside of snowman

So a while back I did a post on my own site at the suggestion of our fearless leader, Shelley. To this day that post, The Butts of the Kilimanjaro Safaris, remains the most popular on my blog. While at LEGOLAND Florida a few weeks ago, I laughed when I noticed the backsides of some of the Lego statues around the park. I thought it would be entertaining to go around the park and take see what I could see as far as the backsides of LEGOLAND.

The culprit that inspired this redux of the previous blog post was the snowman above in Fun Town. Next I noticed the painter at the entrance to Miniland USA. On the way to lunch we passed the otters and deer. We caught the back of the shark and Captain Brickbeard during the waterskiing show in Pirates’ Cove.

By far, the most were spotted on the Safari Trek in the Land of Adventure. Here we saw elephants, zebras, giraffes, lions, meerkats, ostriches, parrots and the monkey. I found this to be appropriate due to the inspiration.

Back on the way towards the front of the park, we found the Bird Lady in Fun Town, Tourist and the Plumber in The Beginning. This is also where we encountered the Climbers in the Market Restaurant. As we exited, we stumbled upon the last few above the entrance sign in the Adventurer, the Construction worker, the guy with Overalls and the Racer.

LEGOLAND Florida for Adults

Welcome to LEGOLAND Florida
Welcome to LEGOLAND Florida

Recently I visited LEGOLAND Florida for the first time with my mom. Ever since we learned of it being announced in the central Florida area we both wanted to go. Having grown up playing with Legos, this was a great treat to be able to finally attend this relatively new theme park. We were both excited to be able to explore the park as adults (read as kids at heart) without any kids this trip.

As a kid I would spend hours on end creating with Legos and dreaming up new landscapes, vehicles, and architectural designs. I couldn’t wait to see the minilands in particular at the park, but also the great rides, shows and the ability to visit Cypress Gardens. LEGOLAND Florida did not disappoint at all! I had done little research ahead of time as to what attractions there were, but had heard great things from friends by word of mouth ensuring me that I’d enjoy my visit.

One of the first things we did upon entering the parks was to pick up maps, even though I already downloaded the great LEGOLAND Florida app for my iphone. My mom is more inclined to use a paper map than the newer technology and I am a fan of ephemera from parks in particular, so it was nice to have a backup to the user friendly app I prefer to use on my phone. We devised a plan to catch several of the shows that were at set times so we would make sure not to miss them.

The park is divided into different areas: The Beginning, Fun Town, Miniland USA, Duplo Village, Lego Kingdoms, Land of Adventure, Lego City, Imagination Zone, Lego Technic, Pirates’ Cove and Cypress Gardens. The first attraction we experienced was in The Beginning, Island in the Sky, an enclosed platform with seats around the perimeter facing outwards. The platform rises up to 150 feet in the air and slowly rotates 360 degrees giving an amazing panoramic view of the park as well as miles in every direction, including as far as the Bok Tower. This was an absolutely gorgeous way to start the day and to get our bearings and see an overview of the park.

Granny's Apple Fries
Granny’s Apple Fries

From here we went to catch one of the 4-D shows, A Clutch Powers 4-D Adventure, in the nearby theatre in the Fun Town section of LEGOLAND. This was an entertaining show that featured great graphics and a fun story. We didn’t get a chance to catch any of the other 4-D movies, but look forward to coming back again to see the others we missed. Since it was mid morning we stopped for a quick snack, one of my favorites of the day, Granny’s Apple Fries. These fried apple slices were served warm with cinnamon sugar and a tasty vanilla dipping sauce. This was the perfect way to get energized before tackling some rides.

As I mentioned, we are just big kids at heart, so even though we were enjoying the park sans kids, it didn’t mean we were going to explore rides intended for younger children. After our snack break, we rode the double-decker Grand Carousel before heading into Duplo Village. We briefly looked around the playground area of Duplo Farm before riding Granny’s Jalopies, participating in the Junior Fire Academy, and then I rode Big Rig Rally. Yes, these rides are intended for smaller folks, but we still had a great time in this section of the park.

Next up, I wanted to ride some bigger rides, but my mom just wanted to explore, so we headed into the Lego Kingdoms where I rode the Dragon. This is a great coaster that is a combination of indoor dark ride and outdoor roller coaster with some thrills! I especially enjoyed the scenes inside the castle of what is going on before you arrive at the dragon. The other attraction we experienced in this area was Merlin’s Challenge, which I was glad we did before lunch. This ride is a train of sorts that runs seemingly by Merlin’s magic. It is on an undulating track that makes this unassuming appearing ride even more fun once it gets going.

Since I am currently not eating meat, I did look at the official LEGOLAND Florida app ahead of time to see that there were vegetarian options for meals and was happy to see that there were several options to choose from. Based on show schedules and where we wanted to be when, we decided to take our lunch break at  I-Zone Panini in the Imagination Zone where I opted for a great vegetarian panzanella.

This was a nice resting point before taking in the Live Water Ski show, The Battle for Brickbeard’s Bounty at Pirates’ Cove. We thoroughly enjoyed this stunt show that featured water skiing, adventure and more on the shores of Lake Eloise. Being a fan of pirates in general, this was definitely one of the highlights of my day with an entertaining story intertwined with great action stunts.

Another one of our favorite parts of the day was definitely Cypress Gardens. This beautiful botanical garden was one of the aspects of the park my mom was most looking forward to since she had never been to the park in its previous incarnation. My grandparents had taken me as a child, so it was nice to revisit it as an adult. I absolutely loved the time (almost an hour!) we spent leisurely exploring the meandering paths in this gorgeously preserved area of the park. There is even a fun game to get the kids involved searching for five hidden Travelocity gnomes (I only stumbled upon four – guess this means I’ll have to go back soon to find the fifth one).

Mom having fun riding Safari Trek
Mom having fun riding Safari Trek

My mom wanted to take a break to find a gift for my brother, who is also a huge fan of Legos, so I decided to do a few more of the rollercoasters she said she was going to skip. I think my favorite was the Lego Technic Coaster, which had an awesome drop almost right out of the gate. I also enjoyed the classic wooden coaster, Coastersaurus. We met back up and both rode the fun Safari Trek also in the Land of Adventure.

The area of the park we both knew we were looking forward to the most, and somewhere we ended up spending over an hour in, was Miniland USA. We have varied interests, so we split up part of the time, and reconvened several times crossing paths between the different locations. This section of LEGOLAND is broken up into Daytona International Speedway, Kennedy Space Center, Las Vegas, Florida (with several major cities like Miami, Key West and Tampa represented), Washington D.C., Pirate’s Shores, San Francisco, Hollywood, New York City, and the new Lego Star Wars! I was just telling a friend today I could have easily spent all day in the Miniland USA displays pushing buttons to make the interactive parts work. It is so cool seeing some of these places I’ve visited, and some I’ve seen only in films, come to life right in front of your eyes.

Finishing up the day, we rode one last right in the Land of Adventure, Lost Kingdom Adventure, which is a ride where you shoot lasers at targets to accumulate points. My mom was very proud she beat me in this fun attraction. On our way out, we meandered through stores and the factory tour. We even found ourselves riding the Island in the Sky again since there was next to no wait. Our last stop before heading out of the park for the day was The Big Shop, the park’s largest gift shop. I found an awesome lightweight hooded sweatshirt in my size and favorite color that I couldn’t resist bringing home with me. It was a steal at half off!

We had an amazing time at LEGOLAND Florida as adults, acting like big kids, for the most part. There were a couple of attractions that were challenges for me personally as a larger person, but other than that, we had just as much fun as everyone else enjoying the park. I can’t wait to go back and explore, especially as we get closer to the opening of the LEGOLAND Florida Water Park in a few weeks on March 9th. Overall, LEGOLAND is a great place for kids and adults of all ages. If you want to feel like a kid again, but still enjoy some of the more thrilling rides as an adult, LEGOLAND Florida is a fantastic choice!

I had the chance to attend the Press Conference at LEGOLAND Florida where we the Star Wars Miniland Cluster was announced and where we were able to see a few of the LEGO® models, and they are amazingly detailed and even light up at night. The Millennium Falcon is AMAZING!!!! And the space that they have dedicated to this Miniland expansion is large in comparison to the other Miniland Clusters.

LEGOLAND Florida Partners with The Dream Village

LEGOLAND® FLORIDA AND PARTNERS TAKE THE MAGIC TO THE CHILDREN
The Dream Village Will Get a Newly Renovated Cottage to Bring Joy to Sick Children
Legoland Florida and Dream Village Ground Breaking
Legoland Florida and Dream Village Ground Breaking

The Sunshine Foundation’s Dream Village is getting a brick-tastic make-over thanks to LEGOLAND® Florida and many generous local companies. Renovations have begun on one of nine uniquely-themed cottages found at the Dream Village, a non-profit wish granting entity. From ceiling to floor, this cottage will be transformed into a LEGOLAND Florida lover’s dream with highly-themed rooms and a LEGO® Duplo plate wall with a play area.

Legoland Florida Plans for Updating the Dream Village
Legoland Florida Plans for Updating the Dream Village

Merlin’s Magic Wand is the charitable organization for LEGOLAND Florida’s parent company, Merlin Entertainments Group, and is funded through the generosity of staff and private donors. While LEGOLAND Florida and Merlin’s Magic Wand are leading the efforts, many local companies have joined the cause to provide substantial financial contributions to the project including construction and roofing materials, air conditioning, furniture, paint and volunteer time:

  • ·         Badcock & More
  • ·         Kommercial Refrigeration, Inc.
  • ·         Rick Wilson Painting, Inc.
  • ·         Springer Peterson Roofing and Sheet Metal, Inc.
  • ·         The Home Depot
  • ·         Tucker Construction Group, Inc.

“We are extremely excited and truly grateful for the generosity and support from LEGOLAND Florida, Merlin’s Magic Wand and their partners,” said, Kate Sample, President of Sunshine Foundation. “The children we serve will absolutely love the renovated cottage!”

Legoland Florida Renovating the Dream Village

Renovations are expected to take approximately 6-8 weeks and an official ribbon cutting ceremony will be held in late October to unveil the new LEGOLAND Florida cottage.

Located in Davenport and built in 1989, the Sunshine Foundation Dream Village’s sole purpose is to answer the dreams of chronically ill, seriously ill, physically challenged and abused children ages three to eighteen, whose families cannot fulfill their requests due to financial strain that the child’s illness may cause. Most wish granting entities must limit their services to those children that have a life-threatening condition. The Sunshine Foundation is able to answer dreams for those children that don’t meet the standard criteria but still face severe, life-long circumstances.

“LEGOLAND Florida is thrilled to join with our partners to make a difference at the Sunshine Foundation’s Dream Village and in the lives of the families they serve,” said, Adrian Jones, General Manager of LEGOLAND Florida. “We hope this is just the beginning of the renovations to come.”
