SeaWorld Orlando announced a new Shark Realm anchored by a new hypercoaster named Mako that will open Summer 2016.
The Shark Realm will be two acre realm fully themed around sharks, and designed to to make guests feel they’re underwater as part of the group of sharks and toothy animals that have taken over a shipwrecked reef.
Once completed, the Shark Realm will include both existing favorites, Shark Encounter and Sharks Underwater Grill, as well as newly themed gift shops, shark and shipwreck themingelements, additional educational experiences, and the centerpiece attraction Mako hypercoaster.
Mako is a B&M manufactured coaster, like SeaWorld’s Manta and Kraken, that promises relentless air-time, speed, a sound system that wraps around the realm, and special nighttime lighting package in a highly themed environment.
A look at the new Mako hypercoaster by the numbers:
1. 200
Mako’s tallest lift hill will take riders up 200 ft facing International Drive.
2. 73
The top speed that Mako will reach will be 73 mph as it reaches the bottom of it’s tallest lift hill.
3. 4,760
With 4,760 ft of track, almost a mile, Mako will be the longest roller coaster in Orlando.
As a bonus, 1,864 ft of the attraction’s track will run over water.
4. 9
Mako features 9 air-time hills.
The new coaster will become one of the world’s few true hypercoasters, a group of roller coasters known for high speeds and steep drops and hills that create a feeling of weightlessness or “air time.” As the sleek coaster cars crest each hill, riders float, nearly weightless.
5. 48,000
Mako’s 48,000-watt, intelligent surround-sound system envelops the realm. Sounds follow the coaster trains as they dive through and around the area … and just over guests’ heads.
6.54
Even though Mako will not feature any inversions, guests will still need to be 54 inches tall to experience this attraction.
7. 5
Mako will be SeaWorld Orlando’s fifth coaster in the park’s thrill ride portfolio.
Mako – a hypercoaster with high speeds, twists and turns.
Kraken – a twisting, floorless coaster; inversions and loops.
Manta – a flying roller coaster with loops and inversions.
Shamu Express – the perfect first coaster ride for the kids.
Journey to Atlantis – a family water coaster that transports guests to the mythical city of Atlantis
“Our fans will love how Mako complements our other rides. Kraken is big, monstrous and twisty. Manta is massive and glides smoothly, taking you on a flight like a huge ray. Mako is entirely different. It’s streamlined and fast, just like a mako shark. There’s no wasted motion, it’s all speed and dives,” said Brian Morrow, SeaWorld’s attraction creative director.
I’m really excited for the Shark Realm and Mako to take shape in the upcoming year!
Make sure you follow On the Go in MCO on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook to keep up with the latest news and information from around Orlando.

Campers are immersed in the wonders of the sea through up-close animal discoveries, exclusive behind-the-scenes opportunities and amazing attractions, rides and shows. The opportunities campers receive are unequaled – first-hand experiences with veterinarians, animal trainers and animal care staff. SeaWorld Camps not only allow children to surround themselves with aquatic life and education, but they also make friends, have fun, explore the great outdoors, ride world-class coasters and create lifelong memories.
SeaWorld Camps offer a learning environment that fosters exploration, inquiry, self-discovery and self-esteem with two offerings: traditional Day Camps and “sleep-away” Resident Camps.
SeaWorld Camps in Orlando:
Day Camps: During their particular week at SeaWorld Camp, participants learn about a variety of animals, including whales, dolphins, penguins and sea lions. Campers will focus on a different animal each day and learn about them through songs, take-home arts and crafts, as well as by talking with the zoological staff. Day Camps are offered for children going into preschool through 8th grade. Lunch, snacks, a camp T-shirt and water bottle are included.
Resident Camps: Make it a summer to remember for students going into 7-12th grade with a Career Camp. Campers experience what it takes to train and work with marine animals and have the opportunity to touch a penguin, snorkel in a shark cage, work with the animal care staff and create an enriching environment for the animals at SeaWorld. Plus, participants have the opportunity to spend a day at Discovery Cove® swimming with dolphins, snorkeling with tropical fish and rays, and feeding exotic birds in a free-flight aviary. Resident Camp fees include all camp activities, lodging onsite at SeaWorld® and at SeaWorld’s partner hotel for five nights, plus all meals and snacks. Supervision and guidance is provided 24 hours a day for the entire duration. Many campers fly in from around the country – these campers are picked up at the Orlando International Airport by the dedicated camp staff and brought to SeaWorld to start their camp experience.
For nearly 25 years, SeaWorld has provided safe, fun and educational camp experiences for kids of all ages in the not-so-traditional setting of a world-class theme park. In the last 10 years, more than 250,000 youth have attended a SeaWorld and Busch Gardens® Camps.
SeaWorld Camps are accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA), a nationally recognized association focused on health, safety and program quality. ACA assists the public to choose camps and works to preserve, promote and improve the camp experience.
A study by the American Camp Association (ACA) revealed that over 90 percent of campers felt their summer camp experience made them feel good about themselves and helped them make new friends. 70 percent of parents said that summer camp improved their child’s self-confidence.

We are looking forward to the newest SeaWorld Orlando Special Event!
Wild Days at SeaWorld Orlando gives guests the opportunity to connect to this wild and wonderful world we all share.
During Wild Days you will find interactive shows in the Nautilus Theater, have the opportunity to meet the leaders in the world of animal rescue, rehabilitation, and preservation, and even encounter amazing animals up close.
We were able to catch SeaWorld Orlando Wild Days last weekend during Bindi Irwin’s Generation Nature LIVE Weekend, and Zoe and her BFFE (Best Friend Forever & Ever) had an absolute blast!
The girls loved Bindi Irwin and the Generation Nature LIVE show so much we went back to catch the second one, and we were chosen to sit in the webiZone! So now we have to keep an eye out for them in an upcoming Webisode!
After her show we got to speak to her for a few minutes, and she was an absolute delight.
This weekend’s Wild Days is the special treat of Jack Hanna!
As a kid who grew up watching Jack Hanna, it is so much fun to get to listen to his passion and knowledge of animals and the world they live in.
My suggestion for catching Jungle Jack’s show is to arrive on the earlier side to the Nautilus Theater, because Jack Hannah is EXTREMELY popular (and for good reason)!
For the little ones, there are special Wild Days Education Stations set up throughout the park for some extra educational fun!
You can find the Education Stations at the SEA Garden and the entrance to Sea Lion & Otter Theater to collect all six limited edition Wild Days trading cards, plus play fun activities to learn how you can do your part to help the environment.
Also throughout Wild Days, SeaWorld trainers will be on hand to introduce you to some of our favorite SeaWorld animal friends. Discover what goes into training, feeding and loving these animals every single day, plus ask questions of your own! Please see in-park flyer for times and locations, as they are subject to change.
As with other Special Events at SeaWorld Orlando, Wild Days is included with SeaWorld admission.
However if you want to kick your Wild Days experience to the next level, there are three dining options that cost extra but are AMAZING!
Breakfast with Jack Hanna – Saturday, February 7 & Sunday, February 8
Enjoy a delicious breakfast with Jack Hanna at Dine with Shamu®. It’s a VIP experience not to be missed and sure to delight kids and parents alike. Breakfast offers a delicious menu, while “Jungle Jack” entertains with some animal facts, stories and answers questions from you.
Guests will also receive one complimentary family photo and special reserved seats at his first show!
Children under 3 are free but require a reservation. Park admission is required, but not included.
Prices for Breakfast with Jack Hanna start at $49.00+ Tax, and discounts available for Pass Members by booking your reservation through the Pass Member website.
Dinner with Jack Hanna- February 7
Enjoy a delicious dinner and mingle with Jack Hanna at a special dinner at Dine with Shamu®. It’s a VIP experience not to be missed and sure to delight kids and parents alike. Dinner offers a delicious menu, while “Jungle Jack” entertains with some animal facts, stories and answers questions from you.
Guests will also receive one complimentary family photo and special reserved seats at his second show. Children under 3 are free but require a reservation.
Park admission is required, but not included.
Prices for Dinner with Jack Hanna start at $59.00+ Tax, and discounts available for Pass Members by booking your reservation through the Pass Member website.
Wild Days Picnic – Saturday, January 31
Saturday, January 31 at 12pm you can join the WIld Days Picnic for a delicious all-you-care-to-eat BBQ buffet, music and fun entertainment like character appearances and animal interactions. Menu includes: BBQ chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, Cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, homemade apple crisp, sweet tea and one drink coupon good for bottled Coca-Cola beverages or Dasani bottled water. Beer and wine will be available for sale.
We chose to attend the Wild Days Picnic, and it was the best money we spent all day!
Besides the fact that the food was delicious and it was a great break from the hustle and bustle of a busy day at the park, the girls also had the opportunity to have exclusive time with the Animal Ambassadors of SeaWorld Orlando and SeaWorld Orlando Characters.
Easily my favorite part of the day was when we got to dance with Shamu and Dolly Dolphin! Shamu has some moves!
Prices for Wild Days Picnic are $19.00+ Tax for adults & $9.00+ Tax for Children, and discounts available for Pass Members by booking your reservation through the Pass Member website.
We all really enjoy Wild Days at SeaWorld Orlando, and if you can go this weekend you should go! Jack Hanna’s presentations are always a blast!
Also don’t forget SeaWorld Orlando is still celebrating their 50th Anniversary, so keep your eyes peeled for the Surprise Squad!
