If you are heading to EPCOT to experience “an intergalactic chase through space and time,” you will first need to prepare to take on the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Virtual Queue!

This is a mission that you should not be afraid to take on, BUT you will want to be prepared!

Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind Virtual Queue

Know Before You Go – Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Virtual Queue

  • To join the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Virtual Queue, you will need to make sure that you have downloaded and logged into the My Disney Experience App
  • Starting at 7 a.m. on the day of your Park reservation, Guests with a valid ticket or pass and a Disney Park Pass Reservation for EPCOT will be able to check for an available boarding group and request access to the virtual queue.
    • This can be done before you leave your Resort hotel or on your way to the Park.
  • Another opportunity to enter the virtual queue will be released at 1 p.m. for anyone who wasn’t able to join a boarding group earlier in the day.
    • Keep in mind that you must be inside EPCOT to access this second virtual queue opportunity.
    • Access to a boarding group is subject to availability and not guaranteed.
  • An additional opportunity to request to join the virtual queue will be available at 6:00 PM on select dates during extended evening theme park hours, a benefit for registered Guests staying at a Disney Deluxe Resort, Disney Deluxe Villa Resort, or other select hotels.
    • Guests with this benefit do not need to be in EPCOT to request to join at that time.
    • These Guests will need valid admission and a theme park reservation for the same park on the same day to experience extended evening hours—or, they may experience extended evening hours if they have a ticket or Annual Pass with the Park Hopper option and first enter the park for which they made their reservation.
  • In order to give as many Guests as possible the opportunity to save the galaxy, each Guest can enter the virtual queue no more than once per day during regular Park hours.
  • The virtual queue is only accessible via the My Disney Experience app. Additional information, including tips for getting into the virtual queue, are available here. Guests who need additional help joining the virtual queue for the 1 p.m. enrollment time should seek out a Guest Relations or Guest Experience Team Cast Member.
  • Using the Disability Access Service (DAS)? To utilize your DAS, you will still need to have a spot in the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Virtual Queue.
  • Please note that joining the virtual queue does not guarantee the ability to experience Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

How to Join the Virtual Queue

  • Step 1 – Check Availability Log in to the My Disney Experience app at one of the distribution times. Select “Virtual Queues” on the home screen to view the current status and next steps for joining a virtual queue. The app will indicate when there is no availability for a specific distribution time or if a backup group is available.
  • Step 2 – Enroll Your Group: As long as your Disney account is linked to your group’s park tickets, and everyone has valid admission and park reservations for the park you will visit, you can enroll everyone in the virtual queue at the same time (subject to availability).
  • Step 3 – Enjoy the Experience: If your boarding group is called to return, you’ll receive a notification via the My Disney Experience app. Then, head over to the entrance of the experience within your designated return window.

Some additional Virtual Queue Notes:

  • Joining the virtual queue does not guarantee the ability to participate in the experience.
  • In order to give as many Guests as possible the opportunity to join the queue, each Guest can enter the virtual queue for a given experience no more than once per day, subject to availability.
  • Boarding groups for a virtual queue are limited, subject to availability, and are not guaranteed. Not all boarding groups may be called to return based on the availability of the experience.
  • Guests may not hold a boarding group for more than one experience at the same time. If more than one experience is using a virtual queue, guests will need to enter those virtual queues one at a time.
  • Guests visiting from another theme park using an Annual Pass or the Park Hopper option may not be able to join the virtual queue in a park where they do not have a Disney Park Pass reservation.
  • In order to request access to a virtual queue during Park Hopper hours, a Guest must be inside the theme park where the virtual queue will be used.

I KNOW that all of these bullets look daunting, but you’ve got this! It’s Save the Universe Time!!!!

Guardians of the Galaxy – Cosmic Rewind

Know Before You Go Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, in EPCOT’s newly renamed World Discovery neighborhood, is a family-thrill attraction that will launch riders into an intergalactic chase rocking through time and space on May 27, 2022.

I’ve put together everything you Need to Know Before You Go…with some spoilers…so beware!

Know Before You Go: Guardians of the Galaxy – Cosmic Rewind

The First ‘Other-World’ Showcase Pavilion

In 1987 the Quill Family visited EPCOT, and Star-Lord loved the experience so much that he suggested the Disney park as the perfect place for Xandarians to connect with Terrans.

The Wonders of Xandar pavilion features three main sections.

The Galaxarium is a sweeping planetarium-style space showcasing planets, stars, and other intergalactic wonders that connect Terra and Xandar – reinforcing the notion that we’re all born of the same space dust. The Xandarian supercomputer, Worldmind, provides narration in the Galaxarium and gives context to the stunning visuals.

The Xandar Gallery invites guests to learn more about the Xandarian people, culture, and history – including the heroes of Xandar – through specially crafted displays, including models of starships and a Xandarian city. The gallery also features excerpts from “Good Morning Xandar,” where a host interviews the Guardians of the Galaxy about their heroic deeds.

The pavilion tour concludes in the Phase Chamber, where guests instantly teleport from EPCOT to a Nova Corps Starcharter cruiser orbiting Earth. Here they learn about the Cosmic Generator, a piece of Xandarian technology that creates jump points – artificial tunnels in space allowing for rapid travel across vast distances.

And this is when things go wrong…

New Twists and Thrills

To help save visitors of the Wonders of Xandar Pavilion, the Guardians arrive on the scene with a plan to track down Eson, the attraction’s Celestial nemesis, by taking them on an intergalactic chase to save the galaxy.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind offers several “firsts,” including:

• The first coaster attraction at EPCOT.

• The first reverse launch for a Disney coaster.

• The first Disney Omnicoaster, where vehicles make controlled rotations, always keeping guests focused on the action.

• The first Walt Disney World attraction to feature the Guardians of the Galaxy.

A Rocking Soundtrack

♬ original sound – Disney Parks

Like the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind weaves classic pop music – or “poet sorcery,” as Gamora would say – into the fabric of its experience.

Disney Imagineers tested more than 100 potential songs for the attraction before creating the soundtrack that includes:

  • “September”
  • “Disco Inferno”
  • “Conga”
  • “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”
  • “I Ran”
  • “One Way or Another”

The soundtrack is exciting because riders won’t know which song they’ll hear each time they ride until they jump into space with the Guardians.

Treasures of Xandar

Guests can hunt for Guardians of the Galaxy-themed fashions, accessories, home décor, collectibles, and toys at the Treasures of Xandar shop, located at the Wonders of Xandar pavilion.

The Xandarians hired The Broker to operate this new merchandise location on Terra.

When the pavilion opens, the Treasures of Xandar will debut several new product lines, including

  • What if the Guardians were rock stars? Inspired by vintage concert merchandise of the 1980s, the Heroes of Xandar Collection imagines all of the gear and memorabilia fans would collect during the Guardians’ fictional intergalactic tour.
  • The 1980s nostalgia continues with a bold and colorful line celebrating Peter Quill’s childhood visit to EPCOT. The Guardians of the Galaxy: Through the Eyes of Quill Collection features retro silhouettes and graphic designs evoking decades past.
  • After helping save the galaxy, guests of all ages are invited to show off their new hero status in style with the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind – Honorary Guardians Collection. Honorary Guardians will be distinguished in their rank through the official Honorary Guardian colors of navy and gold paired with the Honorary Guardian emblem, which is proudly displayed on each item in the collection.
  • The Groot Through the Years Collection celebrates the sentient tree-like creature and his journey to becoming a defender of the galaxy. The collection, which includes toys, home décor, and children’s apparel, illustrates Groot’s evolution from baby to adolescent to adult.

Team Building 101 With Guardians Of The Galaxy

gotg_handout_imax_1000x1463

With the 10th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Guardians of the Galaxy, being released in less than a month (August 1, 2014) it’s no surprise to see that the marketing push for the movie is in full force.  There have been several trailers and featurettes released that give you a glimpse of characters that probably leave many who are not too familiar with the Marvel Universe wondering how this clearly science fiction film has any connection to superheroes in general.  For that I’m sure many will have to wait until the movie is released, but what about these characters themselves?  How does a team of a “thief”, two “thugs”, and two assassins come to be a team that is capable of doing anything together, let alone saving the universe?

That’s where the movie scene shown during the Guardians of the Galaxy IMAX Sneak Peek comes in.   Not all friendships and bonds are simply found.  Often, at times of dire circumstance, they are thrust upon you in unexpected ways.  Without specifics, what we saw on screen was a demonstration of that.  Five individuals placed into an unfamiliar location and circumstance working together to achieve a common and mutually beneficial goal… saving their own keisters.

As a comic book fan, and someone who is familiar with the Guardians of the Galaxy, here’s what I felt I saw.  Four out of five characters amazingly on point for how they are in comic books, and one I’m not too sure of yet as I’m trying to figure out how much of his past has been changed for the movie.  It’s a scene central to the formation of this team and to do that it harkened back to an event and location in comic books that pre-dates their formation during Annihilation: Conquest.  There are quite a few “name drops”, and references to things that will also make fans quite happy.  All this plus lots of gunfire and some awesome mayhem in the span of 17 minutes.  Sadly though, no new songs from the Star-Lord’s Mix Tape were in this preview.

What does this mean for moviegoers?  Simply put, only good things.  From what I saw this movie could quite possibly exceed the high bar set by The Avengers 2 years ago.  These characters are removed enough (though integral to) the whole of the Marvel Universe that this movie will be an excellent jumping in point for someone who has not yet seen any or all of the other MCU movies.  And it will be well received by existing fans.  The only downside may be that this movie may be a lot for some viewers to absorb and understand clocking in at only 122 minutes (according to IMDb).  Or to quote Peter “Star-Lord” Quill, “Something good.  Something bad.  A little bit of both.
