Cedric the Entertainer

A man with a gift for wringing laughter from commonplace situations, Cedric the Entertainer has parlayed a career as one of the top stand-up comics in America into a steadily growing résumé as an actor in film and television.  Cedric is best known for his many crowd-pleasing performances in such hit films as “Barbershop,” “Be Cool,” “Madagascar,” “Intolerable Cruelty,” “Johnson Family Vacation” and “The Original Kings of Comedy.”  Now, Cedric steps away from the camera and on to the live stage to share his comedic craft at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre on Saturday, July 20.  Tickets go on sale Friday, May 10 at 10 a.m.

Cedric’s most recent on-screen appearances include co-starring with Marlon Wayans in the box office hit “A Haunted House” and in 2011,  starring opposite Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks in the comedy feature “Larry Crowne.”  He will next lend his voice to Disney’s “Planes” in theaters August 9, 2013.

Several career highlights for the multi-talented, funny man include earning the Aftra Award of Excellence in Television Programming for Cedric’s Fox Television series “Cedric The Entertainer Presents,” a record-breaking four consecutive NAACP Image Awards for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series” on the WB’s number one rated “The Steve Harvey Show” and receiving The Richard Pryor Comic of the Year
Award from Black Entertainment Television for his ground-breaking work as host of Def Comedy Jam and BET’s “Comic View.”

Although Cedric has devoted much of his energy in recent years to his television and film roles, he insists that stand-up will always be an important part of his career. “You are the conductor and [the audience is] the symphony,” he explains. “It’s a symphony of laughter, if you will, and you’re trying to make sure everybody is hitting some good notes and you’re making this whole, full orchestrated sound of laughter.”
