The Magic Kingdom…Now with More Walls!!!

I have been spending a ton of time at EPCOT lately, so I decided to head over to the Magic Kingdom to see what I could find…

Main Street USA is buzzing with activity, as there are still several buildings behind themed skrims…

As you turn the corner to enter Adventureland, you get the immediate sense that there is a lot going on around here!

While the bridge at the entrance to Adventureland is undergoing a complete makeover, a smaller walkway is being used.

Over near the exit to the Swiss Family Treehouse, the stroller parking area is getting a facelift!

The last bit of skrim is still up between the Tortuga Tavern and Pecos Bill’s…

Walking over near Splash Mountain, I caught a picture of the new logs in action! I had the opportunity to ride Splash a few days ago, and I can only hope that they are able to work out the timing issues that the new lap bars have caused at loading.

The Liberty Square Riverboat is being refurbished…

There wasn’t much to see, but I headed over to Hanunted Mansion to see if anything was buzzing. The ongoing work is still going on behind these walls…I can’t wait to see it when it reopens…

Tomorrow I will be taking a look at Fantasyland, Toon Towns last days, and Tomorrowland.

I hope that you’ve enjoyed this look around the Magic Kingdom!!!

New Figment Game in Imageworks!!!

Last week I tweeted out a picture of the opening of some computer stations in Imageworks, so I returned yesterday to find that they had opened more stations.

There is still a large area walled off where the Kodak demonstration area was located at the exit of the ride.
A look at the computer station area...

At each computer station, you have the opportunity to “Compose Your Own Figment” who can either be a boy or a girl.

Here is what it looks like if you choose the “Boy” Figment without emailing it home…

And here is what it looks like if you choose the “Girl” Figment with the email home option…

I thought that it was a super cute addition to the games that are still in Imageworks, but I thought that getting to make Figment a boy or a girl was a little odd.

What do you think?

Today’s Walk Around EPCOT

Another Week…another walk around EPCOT.

There is a lot going on….So let’s get to it…

One of these things is STILL not like the other...
Tell me which looks better...One
Or Two? I can't believe that they haven't painted this side yet.
Still lots of work going on in front of Fountain of Nations
Lots of Wall!
The backside of the Fountain wall
You can also get a good look at all the different colors of concrete that are in the area now,
The Whirlygigs are still...well still.
Is something missing?
I think I like the little green box!!! 🙂
The Character Spot entrance is still behind walls, too.
A closer look at the concrete work going on.
Genie and Marie were meeting and greeting sans handlers near Club Cool.

Then I headed into World Showcase. And while you can tell that efforts are ramping up in preparation for Flower and Garden, there is a lot of action going on in China these days…

The Duffy location in China has been moved while Yong Feng Shangdian Department Store is being refurbished.
Walled off Yong Feng Shangdian Department Store.
And the entrance to the Yong Feng Shangdian Department Store.
The Duffy spot is now located in the Tomb Warriors exhibit near the Temple.

And in all seriousness, what would a walk around EPCOT be without a peek at some new merchandise?!?!?!?

2011 St. Patrick's Day Ears
Be still my beating heart! A new Duffy outfit!!!
And the kids will all love the new Duffy Spinner!!!

And to offset all the Duffy hate, I thought I would share with you my favorite spot in ALL of EPCOT….

But my favorite spot in all of EPCOT, will always be this!

The Art of SHAG comes to Walt Disney World

When I read on the Disney Parks Blog that Josh Agle, better known as SHAG, would be visiting the Walt Disney World Resort for the first time to sign deluxe prints of the 40th Anniversary Map I knew that I had to be there!

I got to Uptown Jewelers at around 10:00 am and found myself sixth in line to purchase the print to be signed by SHAG.  It was really exciting!

I wanted to take this bad boy home with me!!!

The confectionery was sending over samples of goodies, and some of the citizens of Main Street USA came by to offer a visit. The wait was made to be enjoyable thanks to the humor of Fire Chief Smokey Miller…

At 11:00 am we were able to buy our items to be signed. There were prints, Haunted Mansion decanters and glasses, and Haunted Mansion aluminum water bottles available.

Then it was time…but just as SHAG was about to begin signing the good Fire Chief had a surprise! He joined the Dapper Dans in a serenade of “Grim Grinning Ghosts” for SHAG!

The Print itself features the icons and resorts that were present as Walt Disney World opened 40 years ago. From the Polynesian to water skiing to the sky buckets…it’s all there!!!! And to top it off, he was a super cool guy who graciously signed and spent time with each of us.

It was definitely an experience that I won’t soon forget!!!

Today’s Walk Around the Magic Kingdom

You can definitely tell the busy holiday season has passed, because the walls and scrims have returned to much of the lands of the Magic Kingdom!!!

Come along with me as I take a peek at all the work going on in the Kingdom…

[slideshow]

And if that wasn’t enough…here are two bonus pictures!!!

First up is the 40th Anniversary Viynlmation for the Magic Kingdom! It looks like this series will be an open box, which I totally support!!!

Second, at Downtown Disney the Lego store is about to undergo a lengthy refurb so they are putting up this temporary store between Once Upon a Toy and Earl of Sandwich.

I hope that you’ve enjoyed this look around with me!

If there is anything else that you’d like to see pictures of, let me know in the comment section!!! 🙂

Let Me Save You Eight Minutes…

Yesterday the ‘Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun’ Parade stepped off for the first time at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The ‘Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun’ replaces the popular and high energy ‘Block Party Bash’ Parade with a lack luster eight minute blink and you missed it “parade”.

Let’s start with the similarities between the current offering and ‘Block Party Bash’…

  • Starting time – Both parades begin at 3:00 pm.
  • Starting location  – Starting on Hollywood Boulevard and ending near Star Tours the route snakes its way around  the center of the park.
  • Slightly rethemed parade floats – The large floats are all the same, while the smaller floats have gotten a fresh coat of paint.
  • Reused costumes and props – Okay, the costumes, props, and scooters are pretty much EXACTLY the same…

So if all that is the same, what’s new?

  • Music – The songs we all loved to hate have been replaced by a tweaked “I Don’t Want to Work”…over and over again.
  • Characters – While the large floats have the same characters from The Incredibles, A Bug’s Life, Monster’s Inc, and Toy Story, Carl, Russell, and Dug from Up, Remy from Ratatouille, and Lotso from Toy Story 3 have been added.

While I really enjoyed the characters that were added, but I can’t help but miss all the excitement that ‘Block Party Bash’ brought to the streets of Hollywood Studios.

My MCO Resolutions…

So being new to Orlando, I decided that maybe I should make some resolutions to try in 2011…so here goes…

1. To figure out where in the world I am!!!

Sure we have been coming to Walt Disney World for years, but not Orlando. So as a result I need to learn how to get around this place!!! There is so much that this city has to offer, and it has been a lot of fun finding my way around.

2. Say yes to “Fluff”!!!

I always lamented “If I only had more time…”, but guess what? I have it now and I need to use it. I plan on going to Disney Quest, watching shows, and doing anything else that was deemed to be “fluff” for past trips. I’m always looking for more fluff…so if you have some suggestions I would love to hear them!

3. Run, Shelley…Run!!!

I have signed up to do the 5K during Princess Marathon weekend, and I am totally stoked!!! I never realized just how many races were offered at Walt Disney World, but now that I do I have another reason for keeping up with my resolution to get in shape!!!

4. Let it Go!

I always find that in a new situation, I used to hang back in the wings and let things happen. Not so much now. I have let go of being nervous, and have decided that I would rather look silly but take a step towards making my dreams come true than stand still and let opportunity pass.

5. Meet More Friends!!!

When we moved down here, I knew one person here who is gone for a large majority of the year. So now whenever I see there is a meet up or if I someone I talk to on Twitter is saying they’ll be in town I am doing my best to be there. It has been so absolutely amazing meeting and making new friends! I am overwhelmed with the generosity, friendliness, and overall awesomeness of everyone I have met!
