10 Things To Know On The Go:

ICE! Featuring Twas The Night Before Christmas

It’s no secret that I love experiencing Christmas at Gaylord Palms, and that going to ICE! is something I look forward to every year.

So being somewhat of an ICE!pert, I thought I would share 10 Things to Know On The Go to help make your visit to ICE! featuring ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas awesome!

1. 9 DEGREES!

Christmas at Gaylord Palms 2015 ICE!

Yes you read that correctly, ICE! is 9 Degrees! And while the use of a lovely blue parka is included in your admission, you will want to plan your visit inside ICE! to last around 30-40 minutes to ensure that you aren’t uncomfortable during the experience.

2. Dress

While the temperature inside the attraction is chilly, dressing to be comfortable both inside and out can be a bit of a challenge as you may be walking into the Gaylord Palms from temperatures near 80.

Christmas at Gaylord Palms ICE! 2015

My best suggestion is to wear lots of layers and to have a change of shoes in the car for after your visit, as it will feel a lot warmer outside when you are done.

3. Shoes

Now some of this shoe talk may be common sense, but I have seen it all so I wanted to make sure you’re prepared.

Closed toe shoes are required to enter the attraction, but don’t feel like you have to wear boots because the walkways are carpeted.

Christmas at Gaylord Palms ICE! 2015

I suggest wearing a pair of comfortable shoes that you are comfortable walking in that can be worn with thick socks.

Cold feet are no fun!

4. Taking Pictures

Taking pictures inside ICE! is a lot of fun, and you will want to take a ton of them!

Try to keep your phone as close to your body as possible when it isn’t in use to keep it warm, because the colder your battery it is the quicker it drains.

Christmas at Gaylord Palms 2015 ICE! Christmas at Gaylord Palms 2015 ICE!

You can also expect to experience a “fogging” of the lens when exiting from ICE! into warmer temperatures. This, however, usually goes away once the camera warms up.

Please check the manufacturer information regarding the cold tolerance of your camera equipment.

5. Ice Slides

What would a visit be without a trip down one of the 4 Ice Slides located inside the attraction.

There are 2 ‘adult’ slides which are larger and 2 ‘Child’ slides appropriate for little ones under 4 years or under 40” which are a ton of fun.

Christmas at Gaylord Palms ICE! 2015

Just make sure that you follow the directions of the slide operators and make sure you are prepared to stay in this room for quite some time as one slide is never enough.

IMG_5344

My pro-tip for sliding is to make sure you get a slightly larger parka before you enter the attraction, because you can sit on the parka and lean slightly back to travel a little faster down the slide.

6. On the Blocks

‘Chill out’ at On The Blocks—the exclusive bar inside ICE!  where Adults 21+ can enjoy a sampling of Jackson Morgan Southern Cream and Goose Island Beer plus a choice of a Maker’s Mark or Absolut specialty drink, or Hidden Crush Cabernet or Chardonnay, served in a souvenir glass—yours to keep!

Christmas at Gaylord Palms ICE! 2015

Inside On the Blocks you will also find ambient lighting, music, and fun photo opportunities.

There is an additional cost of $15.95, which includes gratuity, to go inside On the Blocks, but it is a great way to add a VIP touch to your visit!

7. Wheelchairs & Strollers

The ICE! attraction is accessible by both wheelchairs and strollers. Although a limited number of wheelchairs are available on site, to minimize waiting times you are encourage to bring your own.

About the James Beard Foundation (JBF)

Founded in 1986, the James Beard Foundation celebrates, nurtures and honours America’s diverse culinary heritage through programs that educate and inspire. A cookbook author and teacher with an encyclopedic knowledge about food, James Beard, who died in 1985, was a champion of American cuisine. He helped educate and mentor generations of professional chefs and food enthusiasts, instilling in them the value of wholesome, healthful and delicious food. Today JBF continues in the same spirit by administering a number of diverse programs that include educational initiatives, food industry awards, scholarships for culinary students, publications, chef advocacy training, and thought-leader convening. The Foundation also maintains the historic James Beard House in New York City’s Greenwich Village as a “performance space” for visiting chefs. In September of 2012, JBF launched the Diplomatic Culinary Partnership with the US Department of State’s Office of Protocol and helped create the American Chef Corps as a way to champion American chefs abroad, promote American food products, and foster an interest in American culinary culture and history through international programs and initiatives.

Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel: Holiday Season Activities

Escape the cold and join guests for Holiday Happenings at Santa’s favorite resort – the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel.

The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel is always one of my favorite places to visit during the Holiday Season, and this year their line-up of activities

During this month-long celebration, children and kids at heart can enjoy a magical holiday vacation experience at the Epcot Resort Area hotel with special holiday season room rates starting at $159 per night and this year’s activities line-up:

Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel Christmas

Santa and Mrs. Claus Meet ‘n Greets

Decked out in their Florida vacation attire, Santa, Mrs. Claus and Kandy Kane meet guests in Santa’s customized Tiki Hut on select nights. Featuring reindeer, palm trees and flamingos, this holiday photo opportunity is like no other.

Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel Christmas Largest Santa

Life-Size Chocolate Holiday Santa Scene

Constructed entirely of chocolate, this life-sized sculpture weighs in at approximately 2,000 pounds! The sculpture, created by the hotel’s executive pastry chef Laurent Branlard (the only two-time world pastry champion), is showcased in the lobby of the Swan. It features chocolate Santa sitting in his chair, a 7-foot tall, 400-pound chocolate nutcracker, chocolate fireplace, chocolate Christmas tree and chocolate toy train.  The scene will be displayed in the lobby of the hotel throughout December and is 100 percent edible. However, any chocolate lovers thinking of taking on the challenge of consuming this enormous sweet, should consider that it is 4 million calories! (By the way, the sculpture is not available for tasting!)

Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel Christmas Dolphin Lobby

A Florida Snow Fall and Tree Lighting Ceremony

With the help of some holiday magic, guests can experience a snow fall in the comfort of the Dolphin lobby. Throughout December, the lobby is transformed into a festive holiday scene featuring a 45-ft tall Christmas tree surrounded by a holiday train set.  The scene is completed with regularly timed snow fall. This snow, however, requires no shoveling.  On select nights, guests can join Mrs. Claus for the lighting of the Christmas tree, followed by hot holiday beverages and crafts for kids at Santa’s Tiki Hut.

Bedtime Elf Tuck-Ins

Even after Santa’s elves have finished making presents, their work isn’t really finished! On December 24, a fully costumed elf will deliver milk, cookies, a plush toy and storybook to the room, read a bedtime story and tuck children into bed before Santa arrives. This premium service costs $59 for one child and $25 for each additional child. A service charge of 20 percent is added. Reservations are required and space is limited.

Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel Christmas Santa Golf Cart

Dancing Lights Show

A dazzling musical light show transforms the outdoor causeway each evening into a holiday spectacle with dancing illuminated palm trees and favorite holiday tunes.

Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel

Holiday Entertainment

On select nights, guests can catch entertainment by carolers, choirs and musicians in the hotel lobbies, on the causeway and in other public areas throughout the hotel.

Magic Keys for Santa

How will Santa deliver presents to each guest room without a chimney? With a magic key! Children can hang a magic key on their door to help Santa find his way on Christmas Eve. Magic keys are available at the concierge desk.

Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel

Dessert Decorating and Holiday Movies

Throughout December, families can tune in to free holiday-themed movies either on their guest room televisions or, on select nights, on a large screen on the hotel’s private beach. Children can also decorate delicious holiday sweets in the lobby.

Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows: Bora Bora Bungalows

At night guests staying in the Bungalows will enjoy the Electrical Water Pageant and nightly fireworks from the privacy of their deck with the accompanying music on the Bora Bora Bungalow’s personal sound system. Can you imagine how cool it would be to be that close to the Electrical Water Pageant?

Some of my favorite touches are the surfboard-inspired coffee table trunk and headboards. I also really love the artwork and decor throughout the bungalow. I especially enjoy the cover from Annette Funicello’s Hawaiiannette album, and the hula dancer on the guest bath shelf. If you ever get to stay in the Bora Bora Bungalow, make sure you have someone ring your doorbell and listen closely!
