LEGOLAND Florida Unveils

as Part of Renewable Energy Initiatives

LEGOLAND Florida LEGO Globe

Guests can now interact with green-energy based models as part of Tampa Electric partnership at LEGOLAND Florida

LEGOLAND Florida and Tampa Electric unveiled a new 6-foot LEGO ® Globe next to the Imagination Zone attraction venue as part of initiatives to further education on renewable energy inside the park. Built out of more than 250,000 LEGO brick, guests will be able to enjoy the installation along with a new interactive area that features LEGO mini-model communities. The additions to the park emphasize the use of renewable energy, reinforcing LEGOLAND Florida’s efforts on green energy education.

LEGOLAND Florida LEGO Globe

“We are excited to add both the LEGO Globe and interactive communities to Imagination Zone, giving our guests a new way to interact while learning the benefits of renewable energy,” said LEGOLAND Florida General Manager Adrian Jones.

Guests will be able to experience an entirely new interactive area within Imagination Zone, including mini communities that show the full effect of renewable energy. The LEGO Globe will also include tactile elements, with visitors able to affect the rate of rotation with solar panels located around the new model.

LEGOLAND Florida LEGO Globe

LEGOLAND Florida and Tampa Electric previously kicked off the partnership on Earth Day 2014 (April 22) by running the park completely on renewable energy for the entire day- the first theme park to do so in the U.S. The partnership also included the installation of a 30-kilowatt solar panel array mounted atop the Imagination Zone attraction venue. Funded by Tampa Electric, the system supports Tampa Electric’s Renewable Energy program that lets the company’s customers purchase a portion of their electricity from renewable sources. Imagination Zone, where the LEGO Globe is located, is being solely powered by this program.

LEGOLAND Florida: Duplo Valley Closer Look

 Duplo Valley LEGOLAND Florida

DUPLO Valley at LEGOLAND Florida brings the LEGO DUPLO line of preschool building toys to life with new attractions, an indoor air-conditioned play area, and an interactive water play area all geared to toddlers ages 2 to 5.

httpv://youtu.be/8RAkpz8A13Q

DUPLO Valley may be for toddlers, but it was designed as the ideal because this area of LEGOLAND Florida was created with special areas in mind to make this the ideal place for families to play and relax together.

In DUPLO Valley, you will find more benches, covered play and queue areas, and themed play geared toward multiple age and skill levels.

DUPLO Valley Themed Play Area DUPLO Train
Themed play are in the DUPLO Train Queue

There are three new attractions in DUPLO Valley that all feature themed play areas in the queue and interactive elements for family members who may not be riding on the attractions.

Duplo Valley

Once aboard the DUPLO Train, toddlers explore a countryside themed route of farms, campgrounds, and fishing holes. There are a ton of really great fun details on the DUPLO Train! My favorite are the Railroad crossings complete with arms that raise and lower. When designing the DUPLO Train, they made sure to leave the tunnel as open as possible so if younger guests were riding alone they could still see their family at the station.

DUPLO Valley DUPLO Train Detail

For the DUPLO Train, guests under 34″ must ride with a responsible person 48″ or taller, guests 34″ and above may ride unaccompanied.

DUPLO Valley Tractor Area

You can jump aboard the DUPLO Tractor that is made just for them to help the farmers plow the corn fields while searching to find missing farm animals. I love that each tractor has a separate area for the child to ‘drive’ while the parents ride along. Other guests also make the DUPLO Tractor ride even more fun by activating the sounds of the animals inside the farm.

Guests 36″ – 48″ can ride with a responsible person 48″ or taller, guests 48″ and above can ride unaccompanied.

The DUPLO Splash & Play ares is a refreshing play area with intermittent water spouts and interactive water elements set among larger than life farm animals with a soft deck for safety.

DUPLO Valley Splash and Play Info

The DUPLO Tot Spot is the first of its kind at LEGOLAND Florida and is designed specially for children under the age of two and features a small slide and colorful playhouse.

DUPLO Valley Tot SpotThis a covered outdoor area with fans that provides a fun play area that is safe and secure for our youngest DUPLO guests.

DUPLO Valley also has a fun DUPLO Snack Bar where toddlers and parents alike can enjoy hot and fresh popcorn or caramel popcorn, as well as cool, refreshing drinks.

DUPLO Valley Snack Bar

There is also a really fun ‘Farmer’s Market’ themed play area and covered seating with fans at the DUPLO Snack Bar.

DUPLO VALLEY Snack Bar Play Area

Modeled after the DUPLO Set, the DUPLO Farm is an air-conditioned play area for children to slide, climb, and crawl around a whole host of friendly farm animals.

DUPLO Valley DUPLO Farm Inside

Inside the DUPLO Farm, there is a special Toddler Play Room for kids to get a break from all the stimulation of the area as well as a Baby Care Center, presented by Winter Haven Hospital, provides a nursing and changing area, bottle warming, and more.

DUPLO Valley DUPLO Farm Baby Care Center

The whole DUPLO Valley area of LEGOLAND Florida is extremely well designed and executed to keep the youngest visitors to the park happy and engaged while keeping the rest of the family comfortable.

It is a vast improvement, and even Zoe is looking forward to checking out the area soon!

Duplo Valley

LEGOLAND Florida guests can also purchase the new ‘Preschool Pass’, including weekday (Monday-Friday) admission to LEGOLAND Florida and standard parking for both one child under five and one adult for a full year at $90, plus tax.

Assigned to the child, the pass allows an adult parent or guardian to attend the park with the toddler. The pass is transferrable to multiple adults in the family, allowing, for example, a mother to visit one day, and a grandparent the next, making it ideal for families to bring their little ones to LEGOLAND Florida during the week.

LEGOLAND Florida Goes Green On Earth Day

LEGOLAND Florida becomes first theme park

in U.S. to run completely

on renewable energy on Earth Day

LEGOLAND Florida

The initiative marks the beginning of a new partnership with Tampa Electric

LEGOLAND  Florida and Tampa Electric kicked off a groundbreaking partnership today in a celebratory moment by making the 150-acre theme park run completely on renewable solar energy for the day in celebration of Earth Day – the first theme park to do so in the U.S. The celebration is part of existing and new conservation initiatives, including installations that will educate park guests about solar energy. As part of the partnership, LEGOLAND Florida will also permanently power a section of the park, Imagination Zone, on renewable energy.

“This is a historic day for LEGOLAND Florida,” said LEGOLAND Florida General Manager Adrian Jones. “With our new partnership with Tampa Electric, we will give guests a whole new way to learn about renewable energy while also doing something that no other theme park in the U.S. has done before.”

LEGOLAND Florida

A celebratory moment was held just prior to park opening Tuesday, at approximately 9:45 a.m., with both Jones and Bruce Narzissenfeld, vice president of Marketing, Customer Service, Business Development and Fuel Operations for Tampa Electric, proclaiming the partnership and special green initiative. Even the confetti was eco-friendly. The focal point centered around LEGOLAND Florida running on renewable energy for an entire day, with environmental savings equal to removing three cars from the road for one year or planting six acres of trees.

The partnership also resulted in the installation of a 30-kilowatt solar panel array mounted atop the Imagination Zone attraction venue. Funded by Tampa Electric, the system supports Tampa Electric’s Renewable Energy program that lets the company’s customers purchase a portion of their electricity from renewable sources.

“This is a partnership built on doing the right thing for the environment,” said Narzissenfeld. “Together, we’ll teach the next generation about the benefits of investing in renewable fuels like the sun to produce electricity.

LEGOLAND Florida

As part of the partnership, a new display will be placed inside the park starting in June, featuring an interactive 6-foot LEGO ® Earth model that educates guests on solar technologies. Located outside Imagination Zone, visitors will be able to affect the rate of LEGO Earth’s rotation with tactile solar panels. Guests will also enjoy an interactive zone that features LEGO mini model communities running on renewable energy inside the Imagination Zone.

The new areas add to the multiple educational aspects already within LEGOLAND Florida. The park gives kids a chance to learn and play with STEM-based activities such as LEGO MINDSTORMS robots, Build & Test and Power Towers.

LEGOLAND Florida has made a consistent effort for conservation since the park opened in 2011, including:

  • The park recycled nearly 60 tons of bottles and cans in 2013, along with 176 tons of cardboard
  • Throughout the park, guests can find over 180 recycled-made benches, with each made out of 800 recycled milk jugs
  • Each of the park’s 310 trash cans (consisting of both waste and recycle only at a 1-to-1 rate) are made out of 330 recycled milk jugs
  • LEGOLAND Florida has map recycling stations to avoid the waste of park maps that guests can acquire at the beginning sections of the park
  • The LEGOLAND Water Park holds 26 benches and 88 trashcans made entirely out of recyclable materials

LEGOLAND Florida was “going green” Sunday night as all 219,000 gallons in The Quest for CHI turned bright green in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.

LEGOLAND Florida

Cragger the Crocodile from The LEGO® World of Chima™, presented by Cartoon Network, turned the water from the Quest for CHI ride the staple holiday color after sneaking past his rival Laval the Lion to dump green coloring into the signature ride, The Quest for CHI. By the end of the night, Mount Cavora, which stands 55 feet from the ground and rushes 1,000 gallons of water every minute, flowed  green, giving park guests a unique St. Patrick’s Day photo opportunity.

The LEGO World of Chima, presented by Cartoon Network, is a highly-themed area with a thrilling interactive ride and attractions for visitors of all ages, adding to the park’s already exciting line up of more than 50 rides, shows and attractions. Opened to guests last July, the centerpiece attraction, The Quest for CHI, features an interactive water ride where guests will set on an otherworldly adventure, firing water cannons to help save the CHI.

LEGOLAND Florida

LEGOLAND Florida Opens Restored Florida Pool

LEGOLAND Florida Florida Pool Oriental Gardens

LEGOLAND Florida is continuing to pay tribute to the heritage of Cypress Gardens by reopening the Florida Pool and Oriental Gardens. Surrounded by elected officials and community leaders, General Manager Adrian Jones and Bob Gernert, former Winter Haven Chamber Executive Director and Cypress Gardens historian, reopened this historic area.

LEGOLAND Florida Florida Pool Oriental Gardens

As we approached the area we were greeted by Former Cypress Gardens southern belles in their billowing dresses and the LEGO belles.

The Florida Pool was filled to brim with LEGO brick and the outside of the pool was lined with fresh Florida citrus, paying homage to the iconic citrus photos made famous by Dick Pope, Sr. during the mid-1900s.

“We have taken great care to restore and maintain the historic Cypress Gardens since our opening in 2011 and we are thrilled to reopen such beloved areas as the Florida Pool and the Oriental Gardens for guests of all ages to enjoy,” said Adrian Jones, LEGOLAND Florida General Manager.

LEGOLAND Florida Florida Pool Oriental Gardens

Cypress Gardens was Florida’s first theme park that became famous for its botanical gardens, southern belles, and was known as the Water Ski Capitol of the World from the 1930s through the 1960s.

Cypress Gardens was used as a film site for a multitude of movies and TV shows, and the Florida Pool was originally built as a set for the 1953 film, “Easy to Love”, starring Esther Williams.

LEGOLAND Florida Florida Pool Oriental Gardens

LEGOLAND Florida has taken great care to restore Cypress Gardens to beautiful, historic, and pristine condition as they sit at the heart of the park.

The collection of native plants, including azaleas and camellias, have been reclaimed and combined with a range of exotic species to create a horticultural masterpiece. The breathtaking Banyan Tree, planted in 1939 as a seedling, still stands prominent within the gardens.

“The most exciting thing about this is it makes the gardens whole again,” said Gernert. “It makes it exactly what it was when Mr. and Mrs. Pope put the concept together so many years ago.”
