International Drive’s Newest Shopping Attraction Features
Florida’s Largest Daily Indoor Artisan Marketplace and World-Class Anchors
Redevelopment of Former I-Drive Landmark to Create 675 New Jobs
Artegon Marketplace Orlando, a 1.1 million-square-foot shopping attraction and artisan marketplace, is scheduled to open on November 20 in the heart of Orlando’s tourism district on International Drive. Paragon Outlet Partners, LLC has redeveloped the former Festival Bay Mall into a new shopping concept for the region inspired by such famous marketplaces as Seattle’s Pike Place, Boston’s Faneuil Hall, New York’s Chelsea Market and the London Flower Market.
“We are making a significant investment to reinvigorate one of the most valuable parcels on I-Drive, delivering an asset to the community that will create jobs, support local artisans, craftspeople and entrepreneurs, and contribute to the local tax base,” said Steven Sless, executive vice president for Paragon Outlet Partners. Sless forecasts Artegon Marketplace will create more than 675 new jobs. At the peak of construction, more than 150 workers were employed.
Artegon Marketplace will house Florida’s largest daily indoor artisan marketplace with more than 160 studio spaces featuring unique art, one-of-a-kind boutiques, handcrafted items and diverse food offerings from some of Central Florida’s finest craftspeople. “We have curated a collection of many of the area’s top artisans, carefully selected for the quality and uniqueness of their works. Food and drink purveyors offer fresh, farm-direct fare of the highest quality,” said Sless.
Complementing the artisan marketplace, Artegon Marketplace is anchored by some of the biggest brands in dining and retail, including Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, Ron Jon Surf Shop, Cinemark Theaters, Sheplers Western Stores, Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill, and Berghoff’s Octoberfest. The latter two venues are scheduled to open between fall 2014 and spring 2015.
Paragon Outlet Partners, LLC is considered one of the most influential and forward-thinking development firms in the nation’s retail real estate industry. Locally, it is also credited with re-energizing the former Belz Factory Outlet into the highly-successful Prime Outlets Orlando that eventually sold to Simon Properties.
“Artegon Marketplace is poised to become a must-see attraction for residents, visitors and conventioneers alike, providing them with a new place to experience the sights, sounds, and flavors unique to Central Florida,” Sless continues. “Guests can discover authentic local culture and take home a hand-made treasure and lasting memento of their trip to Orlando.”
Artegon Marketplace’s industrial-chic environment, punctuated by heavy wooden support beams, exposed brick and weathered steel accents, is designed to transport shoppers into an immersive experience unlike any other in Central Florida. More than 160 local purveyors of handcrafted items and specialty retailers will be selling and demonstrating a kaleidoscope of products and services including eco-friendly handbags and accessories, soaps, jewelry, sculpture, mixed media artwork, custom clothing and much, much more. Hand-crafted foods – ranging from 70 different types of popcorn to hot sauces, nuts and local honey – offer a smorgasbord for eating and gift-giving.
The Artegon Marketplace experience is also highly interactive with caricaturists, henna and jawa tattoo painters, canvas airbrush artists, and other edgy performers. Visitors can watch glassblowing in a studio. Artegon’s center court will feature an expansive rope climbing attraction. Streetmosphere performers, from jugglers to singers to stilt walkers, will stroll throughout. More than 20 in-line retailers, including Subway, will round out the guest experience.
For group outings, Artegon Marketplace is an interactive and entertaining addition to the region’s inventory of options for compelling community events, off-site convention outings, corporate parties and bus tours.
The center provides ample, free surface parking with 5,800 spaces. Operating hours are 10am-9pm Monday–Saturday and 11am-7pm on Sunday. Artisan studios will be open Monday–Saturday 11am-8pm and noon-6pm on Sunday. Artegon Marketplace Orlando is located at 5250 International Drive, Orlando, FL 32819.
The Skyscraper at SKYPLEX announcement by David and Joshua Wallack, the owners of Mango’s Tropical Café Orlando and Mango’s Tropical Café South Beach, is the latest in the revitalization of I Drive in Orlando.
The Skyscraper, the world’s tallest roller coaster, and the unique 495,000 square feet SKYPLEX indoor entertainment complex will break ground in 2015 with an expected opening date of 2016, and will be built on 12 acres with 300 front feet at International Drive and Sand Lake Road near the Orlando Eye 425-foot ferris wheel.
A look at the current
The Skyscraper at SKYPLEX location.
The Skyscraper at SKYPLEX will bring a mix of retail, restaurant, and attraction space that along with Mango’s Orlando will create an exciting nighttime vibe on I Drive.
“Next to our theme parks, International Drive is one of the most recognized icons of Orlando,” said Visit Orlando president and CEO George Aguel. “It’s exciting for our tourism community to see this type of investment being made to continuously raise the bar on the dining and entertainment experiences we offer across our destination.”
The Skyscraper at SKYPLEX is 570 feet tall and will feature the first Polercoaster built. This mega-thrill ride is a vertical roller coaster created with coaster-length tracks featuring “all the other thrilling mayhem” of a great coaster experience, but “in a very small footprint,” according to Michael Kitchen, President of US Thrill Rides, the Orlando based company that created the ride.
Bill Kitchen, Founder of US Thrill Rides and creator of the Polercoaster said “Not only will the ‘Skyscraper’ coaster be the world’s tallest, we believe it will be the most thrilling. There will be incredible heart-pounding inside and outside loops, dives, spirals and inversions like the world has never seen.”
The SKYPLEX observation deck at the tip of the tallest structure in Central Florida will offer views 535 feet from the ground. To get there, visitors will ride in the region’s tallest glass elevators.
“We’re extremely excited about creating a record-breaking, must-try attraction on International Drive,” said Joshua Wallack, Mango’s Tropical Café chief operating officer, who also will open a Mango’s Orlando next year across International Drive from SKYPLEX. “Nowhere in the world will you have two iconic structures like The Skyscraper and the Orlando Eye. This will be an incredible opportunity for International Drive.”
Wallack and his father David are partners in the mixed-use development that includes opportunities for additional attractions, entertainment, interactive venues, restaurants and retail to include a two-story prime retail space on International Drive. The SKYPLEX indoor entertainment complex including the observatory and restaurant and lounge at the top of the Skyscraper was designed by global architectural firm HHCP, based in Orlando, and will be constructed by Euforria, a construction management division of Winter Park Construction, based in Winter Park, Fla.
“Imagine a night of incredible dining, lounging and dancing atop a glass elevator ride 55 stories into the air,” said David Wallack. “It’s a true meeting of engineering, technology and art that is making this dream happen for us. We plan to bring Ocean Drive to I-Drive with a new dining and nightlife district that locals and Orlando visitors won’t want to miss.”
We are excited about all that The Skyscraper at SKYPLEX will be bringing to Orlando, and we’ll be updating you as the complex is built.

We recently had the chance to visit Putting Edge, which is an indoor glow in the dark Mini Golf place here in Orlando. I have walked past it before, and always been curious so when we saw that they had a Groupon for it, we thought it was time that we paid it a visit. Putting Edge is located inside of Festival Bay Mall, which is in the middle of being re-imagined into a more popular outlet mall design. So there is plenty of parking available as at the moment there is only the movie theatre at this side, a book store and the mini golf.
The Groupon we purchased was just $10 for 2 to play, which was half price off regular admission. On entering you get to select your color golf ball and they give you a glow bracelet to wear that corresponds to the color ball you chose.
You are given a score card, and then an extra card that was so you could participate in the fun trivia found at each hole. You could then compare your answers at the end to see how many you got correct. It was fun as it was all winter based and Christmas themed!
It doesn’t take too long for your eyes to adjust, the colors are so vibrant and vivid it feels like everything is in 3D! Every now and then you get a hole that suggests you take the fun challenge, which consisted in tasks that made the course harder or just silly. For instance, one of them suggested that you hit the ball backwards the whole way, another you couldn’t step on the floor to take the shots, only the props! Sounds silly at first, but you do really get in to it, makes it so fun!
We went on a Thursday night so it wasn’t very busy which meant we were able to take our time and take lots of fun pictures along the course!
Each hole had a different theme, so each time you walked around the corner it was fun to see what fun decorations and illusions they had! I really loved the shark and pirate themed one!
Unlike outdoor mini golf, this indoor one played music throughout and you were even able to write down song requests so you could play to your favorite songs, which we thought was a fun idea!
We also noticed they have a party room too that was all glow in the dark too, and this could be rented out for private functions and birthday parties etc.
We really had fun at this mini golf and it doesn’t take too long to get round the 18 holes so its fun night out for families or friends. The Groupon made it an even better deal and it didn’t expire until the end of January 2014, certainly worth a visit for something unique and local!
Are you lucky enough to have a Bass Pro Shops nearby? We are, right in Festival Bay Mall in Orlando! Now through Christmas Eve, Santa has set up his Wonderland right in the middle of Bass Pro!!
Santa’s Wonderland
They have several game & activity stations set up in the store. Most of them are right in the immediate area of Santa, but the ornament decorating is in front of the big fish tank (at least it is in the Orlando location).
The first thing we saw walking into our Bass Pro was the AMAZING Christmas tree! I loved the rustic simplicity of it!!!
The big tree!
Then you smell popcorn, fudge, and cinnamon nuts! The first activity you come upon is Little Man’s favorite, the carousel! Lots of outdoorsy animals – bears, deer, polar bear, reindeer, moose! We rode it twice, and he wanted to go again! (We went again for week two and he went crazy when he saw the carousel! Of course we had to ride it on this trip too!)
The carousel!
There was a slot car race track set up, along with RC trucks, a laser shooting arcade, a duck shooting gallery & a model train! There are even tables to color holiday pictures and write letters to Santa! These are all available store open to close.
Activities
Other fun things include free weekly crafts (while supplies last)!! They do them by the big fish tank Monday-Friday 5-7 pm, Saturday-Sunday noon -5 pm, and Thanksgiving & Christmas Eve from 3-5 pm. We’ve done the first two, a wooden ornament & a felt penguin ornament. Other crafts are Popsicle stick reindeer ornament (November 25-December 1), stuffed Santa ornament (December 2-8), candy cane owl ornament (December 9-15), reindeer gift bag (December 16-22) & cookie decorating (December 23-24).
Making ornaments
After you finish your craft, head over to Santa’s Wonderland, where you can get a free backpack clip (while supplies last) for the first 125 kids to visit each weekday, 5-7 pm. The first two were a Christmas tree & a candy cane, then comes a gingerbread man (November 25-29), Santa’s sleigh (December 2-6), a stocking (December 9-13), a snowman (December 16-20) & Santa in a chimney (December 23-24, 24th is 3-5 pm). They are MUCH bigger than I thought they’d be, I was pleasantly surprised! Little Man likes playing with them too!
Backpack clips
The highlight of Santa’s Wonderland is, of course, the big man himself Santa! He’s got a nice set up with reindeer this year! Santa’s times are different than the crafts so be sure to check before you go. You get a free 4×6 picture, with the option of a photo package. Packages start at just $15. Both times we’ve gone, there hasn’t been a wait; but later in the season Santa should get very popular! If Santa’a line gets longer than a 30 min wait, the Bass Pass will allow you to go check out the rest of Santa’s Wonderland and Bass Pro and when your time is up, come back to see Santa!

Titanic The Experience reopened in January 2012 after undergoing extensive enhancements and renovations under the new owner, Premier Exhibitions and RMS Titanic, Inc. Among the additions, 100 authentic artifacts recovered from the wreck site of Titanic were added, in celebration of the 2012 Centennial anniversary of the sinking of Titanic. KINGS Bowl Orlando soft opens today, and is sure to
change the face of nightlife on I-Drive!
KINGS Bowl first opened their doors in 2003 in the heart of Boston’s Back Bay. With a retro-inspired décor KINGS focuses on creating unique and memorable entertainment experiences with an emphasis on food, creative cocktails and beer selection, cutting edge technology, and a fun atmosphere with music to keep the party going.
This 30,000 square feet location is a lot more than just “bowling”…it’s an entertainment venue where you will find:
22 Ten Pin Bowling Lanes
Four Full-Size billiards tables
Regulation size, outdoor Bocce ball court
Full-service, executive chef driven restaurant serving award-winning food
Two premium bars serving fun and innovative cocktails
Customizable private space for parties of 10-800 people including corporate/team-building events, birthdays, bachelor(ette) parties, kids parties and more
Over 60 giant HDTV’s and HD projector screens
Industry best sound, lighting and music environment
Regulation Shuffleboard Table
When we were treated to a preview of KINGS Bowl Orlando, we were able to try some of their food and drink options.
Executive-Chef Andre Bautista has won numerous awards and has created a menu for KINGS Bowl Orlando showcasing American comfort food with a kick. Each dish has a unique, unexpected and playful twist that leaves diners delighted. Hand-formed buffalo wontons, house-smoked ribs, marinated steak tips and seared scallops are among Chef Bautista’s most popular and mouth-watering dishes on the Kings menu.
Born in Santos, Brazil, Chef Bautista has also embraced his roots and the large Brazilian tourist population in Kings’ Orlando location by adding “Moqueca,” a traditional Brazilian clay pot fish stew, to the menu.
I have to say that my favorites were the Hand-Formed Buffalo Chicken Wontons, Sesame Ginger Chicken Wings with Chili Soy Sauce, and the Chocolate Banana Spring Rolls were out of this world!
And the cocktail menu is beyond creative! Everyone really enjoyed the Fizzy Lifting Drink! It’s such a playful (and delicious) nod to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!
But one of the coolest, and exclusive to KINGS Bowl Orlando, is the two booths that feature their own beers on draft. That’s right…You just tell your server how many pints you would like to purchase, and you then get to pour the beers you want at your leisure. It’s pretty awesome!
If Private Parties are your thing, KINGS Bowl Orlando has two private bowling/party space and party planners that are on staff to help make any party a success. From a fun gathering to a Bar/Bat Mitzvah party, you’re covered at KINGS!
There are a few things to keep in mind if you’re going to visit KINGS…

As you know, us ladies here at On The Go LOVE things that are shiny and blingy!!!! So when one of our most favorite venues The Titanic Experience announced that they had a Jewels of the Titanic Exhibit coming to town, we KNEW we had to go!
Premier Exhibitions Inc is doing a three-city tour that started in Atlanta, Ga and ends in Las Vegas, NV running until May 31, 2013. It is here in Orlando from January 11- March 12. The collection bodes 15 of the most beautiful pieces of jewelry that were actually found on one of the first dives to the Titanic site. Diamonds, Sapphires, pearls and gold pieces that actually belonged to one of Titanic’s wealthiest passengers.
When guest boarded Titanic, they sent many of their most valuable items (Jewels, Money, Books, Paintings) to the Purser’s office which would hold all the expensive items in one place. They received claim receipts for pick up when Titanic would dock. It was explained to us by Mark Lach, who is the Titanic: the Artifacts Exhibition Creative Director that the guest who had valuables in The Purser’s office, once Titanic hit the ice berg, immediately went to retrieve their items and they were put into leather Gladstone bag, which were locked into safes and moved out to the lifeboats with the passengers.
Nobody is quite sure of the events after that but many pieces of the jewelry sank with the ship and are on display today. in 1987 when the team recovered a Gladstone bag from the wreckage site it contained, jewelry, bank notes, gold sovereigns and gold watches! Because the Gladstone bags were handmade, the chemicals that were used in the tanning process of the leather SAVED the currency notes and protected the rest of the belongings.
Also, just an FYI, the INFAMOUS Heart of the Ocean that was features in James Cameron’s Titanic, was fictional and never actually on board Titanic. But they do sell a replica at Titanic The Exhibit if you should feel the need to reenact any moment of the movie.
Thank you to Krystin of ThisIsPress.com for inviting us and as always, treating us like Royalty!

When Shelley and I got invited to go back to Titanic the Experience and take part in one of their new Ghost tours we JUMPED at the chance. We had such an amazing time on the first tour that we knew we wanted to go back for another experience and we of course had to drag Shalon with us.
The Ghost Tour is different from the Experience Tour because while you go through the rooms and learn the history of the artifacts, the guides Joe Zimmer and Jac LeDoux delve a bit more into the folk lore of the pieces. The word of mouth rumors about premonitions and deaths that happened prior and things of that nature. They also talked about experiences that the guides themselves have had while working there. Before Titanic got their remodel they were housed over on the other side of International Drive in an area called The Mercado which has since been tore down. The Mercado was a very old set of buildings that was turned into shopping and dining and entertainment area. It has since been torn down but the guides all have memories and experiences to share.
So much of the Ghost Tour is a personal experience. You still get the boarding pass of an actual Titanic passenger but this time the stories they tell about the people have a much more superstitious feel to them then the regular tour. It is all about how you feel when you look at the artifacts and if you feel as though there is a presence around you. We were told about a young girl named Katie who was one of the resident spirits in the exhibit. She likes to move artifacts and play around with the Tour Guides. And they also like to play with her. She has a doll that has been found all over the tour rooms and exhibit. She has been known to move mirrors and small items as such. Some of the guides will not play with her but some of them have just as much fun as they can with it. Hiding her doll in tall or obscure places, taunting her with toys and food and even asking her to move things for them to see if she will do it. It is a well known fact that she will play along with certain tour guides but not all of them.
While we were on our tour, we were lucky enough to have some Paranormal Experts with us experiencing the exhibit. One of them had a meter of sorts that read magnetic activity and when we were in certain rooms it would be going crazy and all the lights would be blowing up. One of the guides took a group of us back to the telegraph room and that is where they decided to try and talk to the spirits. Asking yes or no questions to the spirits green on the meter meaning yes and red on the meter meaning no. While I totally am a believer in spirits, I totally understand people who aren’t. Seeing the meter respond and feeling the chill in the air in spots and seeing artifacts that were enclosed in cases or units move, totally blew my mind. This isn’t magic, this isn’t a 3 cent show. This is the type of thing that really gets you to thinking and believing.
Titanic was a real event. With real people and real emotions. Seeing and hearing the stories and watching how the tour guides react totally make this a one of a kind experience. Seeing the other people on the tour react is another aspect of this tour.
