Halloween Horror Nights at Universal!

Halloween Horror Nights infected

So it’s almost upon us, Halloween! If you haven’t already made it over to the 23rd Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights, fear not (lol) you still have some time! There are still three more days of fear to enjoy, the last night being November 2nd. This year’s theme is zombies, with The Walking Dead being the main theme, but also featuring houses such as Resident Evil, Havoc, Cabin In The Woods, Resident Evil, Evil Dead, La Llorona, Afterlife and American Werewolf In London.

zombie pets

Without giving too much away about Halloween Horror Nights, my favorite house this year was, by far, American Werewolf In London! I think it’s because it gave me the most scares! I literally screamed my way through this house from start to end, the effects were just so lifelike and the werewolf felt so real! The scenes were very well set up also, and I found myself pushing my way through to get away from it all! Loved it!

hungry zombie

I also really enjoyed the Cabin In The Woods house, as having seen the movie, it was really fun being able to walk through the scenes and feel like i was actually on the set, it was so elaborate!

Walker

Halloween Horror Night’s scare zones this year were all the same theme, zombies. Which was quite gory but not really very scary in my opinion, as they don’t move very fast and tend to just groan or scream in your face. I miss the variety of scare zones they used to have with roller skating aliens and creepy pumpkin men! But if you are into the whole zombie theme then it is perfect for you, it feels like they are everywhere!

zombie arm

I didn’t do the Rocky Horror Picture Show this year, but I always catch The Bill & Ted Show every year, and this year was no exception. I felt this year it had more pop culture references that I understood, so I found it very entertaining, and the music is always so fun and upbeat. Its certainly worth taking a break from the Halloween Horror Night houses to do!

zombie neck

I actually really enjoyed being able to do some of the new rides too, as most of the large rides are open during Halloween Horror Nights and you’ll find they have decent wait times as most people are going into the houses, so many are just 10-15 minute wait times! I enjoyed eating a Krusty Burger (a vegetarian version, which was yummy!) at Moe’s and checking out the huge pink donuts on sale in Springfield!

Springfield

The tickets we chose this year were the Rush Of Fear passes, which gave us access to the first 3 weeks of Halloween Horror Nights. This we found was a great deal, as the first 3 weeks are much quieter as they start in September, and they include Saturdays, so we will be doing this for next year also. The Frequent Fear passes are another good option if you are planning on going multiple days, these last longer but block out most Saturday nights, which tend to be busier anyway so they are a great deal also.

Parking at City Walk is $16 up until 8pm, after 8pm it’s $5 and after 10pm its free for Florida Residents.

pinkzombie

So what are you waiting for? Go check out Halloween Horror Nights 23 before November 2nd, but be prepared to scream, jump and run your way through the night!

Pick Six: Halloween in Celebration

 Halloween in Celebration

Celebrating Halloween in Celebration can be full of treats or tricks depending on how prepared you are, so join us for a Pick Six full of tips for making the most of Halloween in Celebration!

Pick Six: Halloween in Celebration

1. The Pirate Ship House

Halloween in Celebration

No visit to Halloween in Celebration is complete without a visit to the Pirate Ship House which is located on the corner of Mulberry Avenue and Celebration Avenue!

The Pirate Ship House is a private residence that completely transforms into a swashbuckling Trick-or-Treating experience with a detailed facade that runs along the entire front of the house that is full of pirate skeletons, treasures, cannons, and even a gangplank.

Halloween in Celebration

Lines to Trick-or-Treat here are almost as scary as facing the Kraken, so make sure you are patient and give the crew of this home an extra Yo Ho for all that they have created!

2. Community Presbyterian Church Pumpkin Patch

Halloween in Celebration

Community Presbyterian Church, located at 511 Celebration Avenue, is more than just a place to buy a pumpkin when you are experiencing Halloween in Celebration.

In its 6th year, the Pumpkin Patch is full of photo opportunities for kids of all ages, and most importantly proceeds benefit Help Now of Osceola!

Halloween in Celebration

The Community Presbyterian Church Pumpkin Patch is open daily!

Monday thru Thursday 9 am – dusk
Friday and Saturday 9 am – 10 pm
Sunday noon – dusk

3. Downtown Celebration

Halloween in Celebration

Downtown Celebration is full of great stores and restaurants with Halloween treats, so you will definitely want to take some extra time exploring this area!

4. Trick-or-Treating

There is no way to candy coat this…Trick-or-Treating during Halloween in Celebration can make even the best of us a little witchy!

Halloween in Celebration

The first thing to keep in mind is that families start haunting houses early, usually around 5:30 pm for the younger monsters, so don’t worry about being too early for the fun!

Now I warn you first about how early Trick-or-Treaters hit the pavement, because the streets of Celebration (especially in the Downtown Area) can get extremely congested!

It’s important to keep in mind that in Celebration there aren’t a ton of parking lots and street parking can be scare, so you will want to think ahead about your route and plan accordingly. My best advice is to get here as early as possible, grab a bite downtown, and take in all the fun you can!

And finally, lines can get bananas long for candy at houses in the Downtown Celebration area! One year our line went in both directions for a block with 4 of us handing out candy…I kid you not!!!

5. House Decorations

While we all can’t have Pirate Ship Houses, during Halloween in Celebration you’ll find a lot of houses decorated to the nines and most of them have at least one fun ‘Disney’ side!

6. Have fun

Happy Halloween from my family to yours!!!

Halloween in Celebration

We hope you have a fun night celebrating Halloween in Celebration, and if you are here make sure you share your pictures with us!!!

We’ll be posting more pictures from Halloween in Celebration on our Facebook Page, so drop by and let us know what you think!

Pick Six: Halloween Spooktacular at SeaWorld Orlando

Halloween Spooktacular

A highlight of the Halloween Party season in Orlando for our family is Halloween Spooktacular at SeaWorld Orlando!

Halloween Spooktacular events at SeaWorld Orlando take place weekends in October on the 5-6, 12-13, 19-20, and 26-27 from 12 to 8 pm, and Trick-or-Treat stations, special characters, Penelope’s Party Zone, and more are all included with your admission! There are also special Halloween Spooktacular themed cookie decorating, merchandise, and games which are available at a very reasonable extra charge.

While the party is filled with great activities, characters, candy, and fun here are our favorite highlights of Halloween Spooktacular at SeaWorld Orlando!

Pick Six:

Halloween Spooktacular Orlando Highlights

1. Decorations

Halloween Spooktacular

I absolutely adore how SeaWorld Orlando is transformed for Halloween Spooktacular! You’ll find fishy looking pumpkins, tons of bubbles, colorful banners, and scenes that really transport you to a Halloween ‘Fantasea’! Zoe especially loves the bubbles everywhere!!!

2. Characters

Halloween Spooktacular

When you think of SeaWorld you may not think of meeting characters,  but you should! This year Pirate Shamu and friends are meeting and dancing with guests at Penelope’s Party Zone in Bayside Stadium. This is a HUGE improvement from last year’s meet and greet location, because the characters really know how to boogie and really who doesn’t want to dance with Shamu???

3. Free Activities

Halloween Spooktacular

Since Halloween Spooktacular at SeaWorld Orlando is during the day and centered around family fun, there are really great free activities for kids of all ages! For the younger guests at Halloween Spooktacular, there are coloring easels with stools and play areas. And for the older guests, there are pumpkin foam crafts to make and iPads with big screens set up to play the SeaWorld Turtle Trek game! These activities are all found in Penelope’s Party Zone, and I will warn parents that you will spend a lot of your Halloween Spooktacular time here!

4. Cookie Decorating

Halloween Spooktacular

Every year there is a special treat to decorate, and this year’s cookie decorating doesn’t disappoint! On the upper walkway of Bayside Stadium you will find the cookie decorating tents where you can purchase a cookie decorating kit for $5.50, which includes a cookie, icing, decorating sprinkles & candies, and your choice of water, apple juice, and milk. What I especially love about this area is that it is a place where you and your children can sit away from the party to grab a snack and let them unwind for a spell. If you are a SeaWorld Orlando Annual Passholder, you will receive a discount on the cookie decorating kit!

5. Animal Interactions

Halloween Spooktacular

Zoe ALWAYS loves the animal interactions that she finds when we visit SeaWorld Orlando, and she loves them even more when she can take a picture with them in her Halloween costume! The day we attended Halloween Spooktacular, Zoe met a Tawny Frogmouth, who was super soft and sweet!

6. Trick-or-Treating

Halloween Spooktacular

I left our favorite highlight for last…Trick-or-Treating! At Halloween Spooktacular Trick-or-Treating is no joke! You can enter the Underwater Fantasea Path near Shamu Stadium or at the path near the Dolphin Nursery, and the path takes you through the center of all the Halloween Spooktacular fun with 12 Trick-or-Treating spots. The lines are clearly marked which keeps things really organized, and the type of candy being distributed is clearly displayed so you can see if you want to stop or if you need to start thinking of a candy trade to make! You also don’t have to worry about bringing a bag for your treats, because they have high quality paper bags and maps at both entrances to the path!

When you do go to Halloween Spooktacular at SeaWorld Orlando, make sure that you follow SeaWorld on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram for great details and information! If you are sharing pictures also make sure to tag your pictures with #SeaWorldSpooktacular, because SeaWorld wants to hear from you and they are even holding contests for attendees!

I hope that you enjoyed our Pick Six for Halloween Spooktacular at SeaWorld Orlando, and I’d love to hear what you love the best about this family-friendly and fun filled Halloween event!

GAME OVER…

HORROR VIDEO GAME SERIES RESIDENT EVIL COMPLETES INTENSELY TERRIFYING LINEUP FOR

UNIVERSAL ORLANDO’S HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS 23

Nation’s Best Halloween Event to Feature Eight All-New Haunted Houses,
Outrageous Shows and Horrifying, New Street Experience

This fall, Universal Orlando Resort will transform reality into a surreal fight for survival as the critically-acclaimed survival horror video game series Resident Evil becomes a haunted house at Halloween Horror Nights 23.

This completes this year’s lineup for Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights 23, which will feature some of the most outrageously terrifying, highly-recognizable names in entertainment and pop culture. In addition to Resident Evil, the event will also include haunted houses based on AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” Mexican urban legend La Llorona and critically acclaimed horror films “Evil Dead,” “An American Werewolf in London” and “The Cabin in the Woods.” Universal Orlando is also dedicating its entire Halloween Horror Nights street experience to “The Walking Dead” – making this the first time ever that all of the scare zones throughout the park will be themed after a hit television series.

For Resident Evil, Universal’s Entertainment team collaborated with the video game creators at Capcom to create a horrifyingly authentic haunted house based on some of the popular video games from the Resident Evil series. Guests will become desperate survivors inside the viral catastrophe, Raccoon City. As they journey through the city, they’ll encounter vicious characters from the games such as Lickers, bloodthirsty zombies, packs of Cerberuses and even Nemesis himself. Fans will be completely transported inside the video game realm – to the extent that one room in the haunted house will appear as if an action-packed fight scene is paused, as if the gamer has taken a quick break before returning to the horror of Raccoon City.

The Resident Evil franchise is now firmly established as a mainstay of contemporary culture with blockbuster live action movies, CG anime, manga, novels and numerous merchandising lines being produced alongside the videogame series. To date, the Resident Evil series of videogames has achieved global sales of more than 57 million units.

“It’s such a great delight to work with Universal on a haunted house based on the Resident Evil games,” said Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, Producer of Resident Evil 6. “The games have become synonymous with survival horror and we look forward to delivering a new way for consumers to experience the Resident Evil world we have created in the haunted house at Halloween Horror Nights.”

“Resident Evil is a perfect final addition to Halloween Horror Nights 23,” said Michael Aiello, Creative Director for Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights. “We were able to create incredibly elaborate sets that plant you right in the midst of Raccoon City’s apocalyptic nightmare, along with terrifying adversaries that will send them running.”

For a detailed listing of each experience featured at this year’s event, see below.

Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights 23 will take place select nights from Sept. 20 to Nov. 2. Tickets and vacation packages are on sale now and can be purchased at Halloweenhorrornights.com/orlando. For details on special Florida resident offers, please see below. Due to the event’s popularity, tickets for weekend nights are expected to sell out and should be purchased well in advance.

AMC’s The Walking Dead Returns to Halloween Horror Nights

AMC’s The Walking Dead to be resurrected at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort’s

Award-Winning Halloween Horror Nights events for second consecutive year!

Universal Halloween Horror Nights
Beginning September 20, AMC’s The Walking Dead will come to life at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort’s Halloween Horror Nights events with all-new terrifying mazes inspired by Season 3 of the critically-acclaimed, award-winning television series.

Season 3 of the Golden Globe-Nominated, Emmy-Award Winning series, ‘The Walking Dead,’

Sets the Stage for All-Original Horrifying Experiences on Both Coasts

Fans with a voracious appetite for AMC’s “The Walking Dead” will have a chance to walk in the footsteps of human survivors when Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort debut all new terrifying mazes inspired by Season 3 of the critically-acclaimed, award-winning television series at this year’s Halloween Horror Nights events beginning September 20.

The eerily authentic and disturbingly real maze experiences will place Halloween Horror Nights guests at the heart of the show’s once impenetrable prison, the West Georgia Correctional Facility, now overrun by hordes of flesh-eating walkers.  The mazes at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando will send guests cowering through the walker-infested wilderness that surrounds the prison and into the seemingly utopian town of Woodbury where gruesome secrets are concealed.

Universal Orlando is also dedicating its entire Halloween Horror Nights street experience to “The Walking Dead” – making this the first time ever that all of the scare zones throughout the park will be themed after a hit television series.  Guests brave enough to walk the streets of Universal Studios Florida will encounter iconic scenes from all three seasons of the hit show – including the perilous city of Atlanta and Hershel’s dismal barn – and fleets of blood-thirsty walkers who are hungry for their next victim…

The Golden Globe®-nominated, Emmy® Award-winning series “The Walking Dead” is based on the graphic novel written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. The series tells the story of the months and years after a zombie apocalypse.  It follows a group of survivors, led by sheriff Rick Grimes, who travel in search of a safe and secure home. “The Walking Dead” is the first original cable series ever to end the broadcast TV season as the number-one show for adults 18-49.  AMC’s “The Walking Dead” returns for season 4 on Sunday, October 13 at 9pm ET/PT.

“What’s great about working with a property like ‘The Walking Dead’ is that each season presents new environments and characters for us to draw inspiration,” said John Murdy, Creative Director for Universal Studios Hollywood.  “With the prison as the main setting of Season 3, we seized this opportunity to recreate that very environment, down to the last detail, to be as genuine and authentic to the show as possible. Using movie-quality production value, our goal is to make guests feel as if they are mired in the world of blood-thirsty zombies, which is something you can only do at Halloween Horror Nights”.

“The goal is always to surround guests with authentic and terrifying experiences,” said Michael Aiello, Creative Development Director for Universal Orlando’s Entertainment team. “The combination of ‘The Walking Dead’ themed street experiences and the haunted maze will make it difficult for our guests to escape the hordes of ravenous walkers they’ve seen on their television.  The moment you pass through our gate, you become a survivor fighting for your life.”

Universal Halloween Horror Nights

Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights events have a more than 20-year history of creating incredibly entertaining, horrifying Halloween experiences that are consistently rated the nation’s best.  The events on each coast feature highly-themed, disturbingly real, haunted mazes based on everything from films to nightmares — and streets filled with hundreds of specially trained “scareactors.”

Halloween Spooktacular has something for everyone in your family!

Halloween Spooktacular
Halloween Spooktacular Map

There is a HUGE Trick-or-Treat Trail that winds its way around over half of the park, and is jam packed full of candy stops, entertainment, and unique Halloween characters! There are two entrances to the trail, which opens at noon, and you receive a really nice paper Trick-or-Treating bag to continue with their dedication to use bags that are more eco-friendly! We prefer to start at the entrance closer to the Dolphin Nursery, because it is really festive and filled with bubbles which Zoe cannot resist!!! Another great part of the Halloween Spooktacular event is that if you follow the Trick-or-Treat trail you will eventually hit every highlight of the event!

Halloween Spooktacular
This band appeared along the Trick-or-Treat Trail

Penelope’s Party Zone is where we tend to spend a large majority of our time at Halloween Spooktacular at SeaWorld Orlando! This area, in Bayside Stadium, is where you can find a DJ and characters getting down, a free craft activity, storytelling, drawing areas for younger children, and most importantly a shady spot for parents and kids to take a break from the fun for a bit! I really think that Zoe would rather spend her time dancing than getting candy!

Halloween Spooktacular
Storytelling at Penelope’s Party Zone

There is also Sesame Street Countdown to Halloween which is a really fun show that plays only on Halloween Spooktacular days. This is a fun musical production about Halloween starring all of your favorite characters. It is a favorite part of Spooktacular in our family.

Check out the all-new Penelope’s Photacular where you can show off your most Halloween Spooktacular costume, and it might make a celebrity guest appearance before the Shamu Rocks show in a virtual costume parade! Located on the Bayside Trick-or-Treat Trail between Bayside Stadium and Wild Arctic this fun photo stop also includes some great SeaWorld Characters!!! The virtual costume parade before Shamu Rocks will start 30 minutes prior to the show, so make sure that you get to the stadium early so you don’t miss any of the fun.

Halloween Spooktacular
There are a lot of fun opportunities to meet your favorite SeaWorld Characters!

While all of the above events are free, there are a few ways that you can enhance your day at SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular. The Count Von Count Spooktacular Breakfast at the Seafire Inn is a wonderful way to start your Spooktacular day!!! At this buffet breakfast you will get to meet your favorite Sesame Street characters and watch a show. You want to make sure that you get there at least 15 minutes early, because there is a special character who greets you, a 5×7 photo is included in the price of the buffet for your family as a keepsake! The cost for the Count Von Count Spooktacular Breakfast is $24.99 for ages 10 and up and $14.99 for children, and as always at SeaWorld Orlando Passholder discounts are available!

Halloween Happenings at Walt Disney World Resorts

Halloween
Halloween 2012 image copyright Disney

Halloween is almost here! The pumpkins have been carved, candy is ready to be distributed, costumes are laid out and the kids are ready (us big kids too). What if you aren’t home for Halloween, but are fortunate enough to be at Walt Disney World for this awesome time of year? The first thought is of course to try to attend Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party (my favorite special event of the year) at the Magic Kingdom, but what if you’ve already done that or don’t feel like spending money for a ticket? I’ve got some suggestions of great things to do at resorts where you can have a ton of fun!

In the past I have visited both Downtown Disney and the Boardwalk to trick or treat on Halloween when I didn’t have a ticket to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. This year Walt Disney World is mixing up their locations and offering some spooky activities for kids of all ages at select resorts for registered guests of those resorts. On October 30th, Bay Lake Tower and Disney’s Contemporary Resort will both offer a variety of games, arts and crafts and trick or treat trails! Fort Wilderness also gets in on the Halloween fun a day early even with a pet costume parade.

Halloween adds the Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge and Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa to the list of resorts participating in the special activities. Each one offers their own spin on both individual and group activities, but all the resorts share one thing at the end of the night: Halloween themed movies! Tuesday night, Bay Lake Tower and the Contemporary will show Spooky Buddies at 8pm and Fort Wilderness will have The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad at 8:40pm followed by The Haunted Mansion. Wednesday BLT and the Contemporary will show Something Wicked This Way Comes at 8pm, Fort Wilderness will show Hocus Pocus at 8:40pm. The Grand Floridian and Polynesian will have The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad at 7:30pm followed by Hocus Pocus, and Wilderness Lodge will have Hocus Pocus at 8pm. Saratoga Springs will have a Spooky Viewer’s Choice movie at 8pm.

I would love to be able to take part in some of these crafts like Monster Masks, Monster Mickey Tie Dye, Ghosts, Ghouls & Goblins Chalk Art, Pumpkin Decorating Contests, Creepy Crawly Crafts, and Decorate a Trick or Treat Tote. Also games like Ghoulish Guessing Contest, Totally to Die For Trivia, Spooky Scramble, Boo Bingo, and Disney Halloween Trivia sound like a blast! I really wish I was staying at one of these resorts next week so I could take advantage of all of these great offerings.

If you are a guest at any of these resorts I hope you enjoy these incredible sounding activities across the Walt Disney World resorts for Halloween. This is such a fun time of year to try out new special things to do at your resort that you maybe haven’t tried before. Please consult your resort activities guide or a recreation cast member for detailed descriptions, locations and times. Activities and times are subject to change without notice.

Also, feel free to visit our Facebook page to see some of our pictures from Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party this year. Looking to get more for your Halloween fix? Check out some of our previous posts about MNSSHP here, here, and here.

Titanic The Experience Ghost Tour

Titanic The Experience
7324 International Drive * Orlando Florida 32819

When Shelley and I got invited to go back to Titanic the Experience and take part in one of their new Ghost tours we JUMPED at the chance. We had such an amazing time on the first tour that we knew we wanted to go back for another experience and we of course had to drag Shalon with us.

Titanic the Experience
Titanic The Experience

The Ghost Tour is different from the Experience Tour because while you go through the rooms and learn the history of the artifacts, the guides Joe Zimmer and Jac LeDoux delve a bit more into the folk lore of the pieces. The word of mouth rumors about premonitions and deaths that happened prior and things of that nature. They also talked about experiences that the guides themselves have had while working there. Before Titanic got their remodel they were housed over on the other side of International Drive in an area called The Mercado which has since been tore down. The Mercado was a very old set of buildings that was turned into shopping and dining and entertainment area. It has since been torn down but the guides all have memories and experiences to share.

Titanic The Experience
In this room the chain on the wall definitely was moving as we were told about the odd incidents that have happened in Titanic The Experience.

So much of the Ghost Tour is a personal experience. You still get the boarding pass of an actual Titanic passenger but this time the stories they tell about the people have a much more superstitious feel to them then the regular tour.  It is all about how you feel when you look at the artifacts and if you feel as though there is a presence around you. We were told about a young girl named Katie who was one of the resident spirits in the exhibit. She likes to move artifacts and play around with the Tour Guides. And they also like to play with her. She has a doll that has been found all over the tour rooms and exhibit. She has been known to move mirrors and small items as such. Some of the guides will not play with her but some of them have just as much fun as they can with it. Hiding her doll in tall or obscure places, taunting her with toys and food and even asking her to move things for them to see if she will do it. It is a well known fact that she will play along with certain tour guides but not all of them.

Titanic The Experience
The recreation of the boiler room of the Titanic was super creepy, especially the speaking tube!

While we were on our tour, we were lucky enough to have some Paranormal Experts with us experiencing the exhibit. One of them had a meter of sorts that read magnetic activity and when we were in certain rooms it would be going crazy and all the lights would be blowing up. One of the guides took a group of us back to the telegraph room and that is where they decided to try and talk to the spirits. Asking yes or no questions to the spirits green on the meter meaning yes and red on the meter meaning no. While I totally am a believer in spirits, I totally understand people who aren’t. Seeing the meter respond and feeling the chill in the air in spots and seeing artifacts that were enclosed in cases or units move, totally blew my mind. This isn’t magic, this isn’t a 3 cent show. This is the type of thing that really gets you to thinking and believing.

Titanic The Experience
Did you make it?

Titanic was a real event. With real people and real emotions. Seeing and hearing the stories and watching how the tour guides react totally make this a one of a kind experience. Seeing the other people on the tour react is another aspect of this tour.
