Aloma Bowling Centers offer free bowling for kids all summer

School’s out … Play’s in! … and Aloma Bowling Centers can help parents keep their kids cool, active and entertained this summer.
Three of Central Florida’s premier bowling venues – Aloma Bowl, Boardwalk Bowl Entertainment Center and Airport Lanes – are offering free bowling for kids all summer to help families save big.

Aloma Bowling Centers

As part of the offer, kids ages 15 and younger will receive two free games of bowling each day with the purchase of shoe rental. The offer is available from open to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. It begins June 6 and runs through August 12.
Additional games of bowling are only $2 a game.
Children must be accompanied by an adult or guardian to receive the free games, and adults can accompany up to three children. To register a child, simply and click on your venue, then click the Free Bowling for Kids tab.
But adults won’t be left out. They can bowl, too, with games for $2 as well as shoe rental for $3, making summer at Aloma Bowling Centers fun for the whole family.
Aloma Bowling Centers include Aloma Bowl in Winter Park, Boardwalk Bowl Entertainment Center in Orlando and Airport Lanes in Sanford. The three entertainment venues have a combined 144 lanes, and each offers billiards, a restaurant and games.

Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa Set for Expansion Project


Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa is beginning an expansion will begin an expansion project that will create new jobs and add additional parking, gaming, and amenities to the resort.

According to Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa President John Fontana, the property will construct an additional parking garage located off of Orient Road, which will provide 750 new parking spaces. Also, a 30,000-square-foot premium gaming area featuring upscale games will be added, along with a new 50 table state of the art poker room, increased amenities including an upscale restaurant and a new, expanded porte-cochere.

“This expansion project will create over 100 new permanent jobs at the casino and keep hundreds of Tampa Bay Area construction workers busy for the next year,” said Fontana. “These new additions to the property will clearly enhance the guest experience and attract more tourists from around the country.”

This will be the third major expansion for the property and is the next step in the overall master plan. The most recent came in 2012, a $75 million project which made Seminole Hard Rock Tampa the world’s sixth largest casino.

Step into a world of intrigue, comedy, and suspense at Sleuths. Your evening begins with a pre-show and hors d’oeuvres in the lobby. Then you are escorted to your theatre for the show. In recent years, the Warped lineup has been revealed via weekly announcements leading up to the kickoff of the tour, so 2016 marks the first time in several years that the ENTIRE lineup will be revealed at once, and the first time ever to be streamed from Full Sail University.

The Antiques Vintage and Garden Show will feature a dazzling array of collectibles, original art, fine jewelry, silver, porcelains, ceramics, textiles, florals, and furniture, as well as a wide variety of unique home and garden décor. Guest Speaker India Hicks

This year’s guest speaker is India Hicks, a world-renowned author, model, entrepreneur, TV personality and daughter of famed designer David Hicks. Hicks comes from both British and design royalty. As the goddaughter of the Prince of Wales, Hicks served as a bridesmaid at his wedding to Lady Diana.

Hicks will speak at 11:00am on Friday, February 19, and will sign her books Island Style and Island Life. Tickets for this engagement are $45, and include admission to the Antiques Vintage and Garden Show. ME Dance Co. Announces Name Change


The name transition is designed to reflect the growth and evolution of the company for 2016 and beyond 

The Orlando-based ME Dance Company announced it is officially changing its name to Dance Theatre of Orlando. The beloved dance troupe, founded in 2011, is expanding through the new year and the name change is a reflection of that growth. The company’s original, full-length dance productions will also transform into more robust, fleshed-out stories designed to captivate and intrigue audiences of all ages.

“The new name for ME Dance will bring forth a new era for the dance company,” says Marshall Ellis, founder and artistic director of ME Dance, Inc. and Dance Theatre of Orlando. “With a new name, expect a whole new set of artistic works and expression. The dance company will continue to present its usual full-length productions for each season, but these productions will be edgier – they will incorporate new elements of dance, new innovative technology and, above all, they will focus on engaging stories.”

This year, there will be a strong focus on developing the dancers into strong storytellers for each performance. Their classic technique will blend with dynamic narratives to provide more than just a showcase of technical feats, but also a unique and fully immersive entertainment offering that will enchant audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

For 2016, the Dance Theatre of Orlando will present the following original productions:

    • TOUCH – The Human Experience; Music by Bruce Springsteen; March 4-6, 11 and 13, 2016
    • K.E.Y.S.; A collection of dances directed by various choreographers; July 15-17, 2016

Five of the show’s biggest stars, the giant monster trucks from Monster Jam, will be on display in Orlando next Thursday, January 21. Florida Arbor Day is Friday, January 15th, and the Florida Wildlife Federation is pleased to announce its partnership with the National Wildlife Federation to bring more tree planting events to Florida. Our first event is this Saturday in Crawfordville, a small town south of Tallahassee.


The Iris Garden Club of Wakulla County has recently partnered with the National Wildlife Federation, and the Florida Wildlife Federation, to increase the quantity and variety of trees in its annual tree giveaway, thereby increasing the number of adults and children in Wakulla County who receive, plant, and care for native Florida trees in their yards.

The garden club has been awarded 800 bare-root tree seedlings –100 each of eight tree species – from the National Wildlife Federation’s Trees for Wildlife Program, half to be given away in 2016 and the other half in the winter of 2017. All eight species are indigenous to Wakulla County. NWF and FWF are new partners to Crawfordville’s Arbor Day Celebration and annual tree-giveaway scheduled this Saturday. The organizations are providing a mix of 400 Red bud, River birch, Southern red oak, and Bald cypress.

Pamela and Sarah Moss plant a River birch tree seedling on December 8th at the Wakulla County Library in preparation for the Iris Garden Club of Wakulla County’s Arbor Day Celebration & Tree Giveaway, January 16, at Hudson Park in Crawfordville.

On January 16, from 10 am until noon, Wakulla County families are invited to the club’s 12th Annual Crawfordville Arbor Day Celebration & Tree Giveaway at Hudson Park. Every person, including each child, will choose their own tree to take home and plant. “How to Plant” cards will be given to each recipient. Tree experts, experienced gardeners, and UF-IFAS Master Gardeners will be on hand to provide information and help people select suitable trees for their yards. There also will be photographs and written information about each type of tree, and how to plant and care for one’s new tree.

In addition, trees in pots will be provided to pre-schools and schools in the county that want to conduct their own Florida Arbor Day planting events in January. Leftover trees will be planted by Iris Garden Club members at various community sites, including county schools.

In preparation for the tree-giveaway, during the month of December, children from C.O.A.S T. Charter School helped IGC members put selected bare-root seedlings into 1-gallon pots with potting soil. Each student received a tree to take home.

Arbor Day events encourage people to plant and nurture trees. “Florida’s Arbor Day is in January which is the perfect month to plant trees in Florida,” said Jeannie Brodhead, Acting President of the Iris Garden Club. “Our goal is to replace native trees lost to development, storms, and old age so as to beautify the county, benefit wildlife, and protect our environment. Trees also provide cooling shade, reduce electric bills, and help to lower carbon emissions,” added Lynn Artz, one of the event’s coordinators.

“Replacing trees is necessary to protect wildlife. Trees provide shelter, berries and seeds for nourishment, places to hide, and nesting sites to raise young,” said Manley Fuller, President of the Florida Wildlife Federation. By planting trees, children and their families can help to ensure that wildlife thrive for years to come.

“NWF’s Trees for Wildlife Program aspires to educate youth about the role of trees in our environment, how individuals can take action to plant trees and provides stewardship for sustaining trees locally, across Florida, and across the nation,” explained Luisa Grant, Community Programs Senior Coordinator for the National Wildlife Federation. Trees for Wildlife also explores the unique connection wildlife have with trees. It’s a great opportunity to have youth learn about how to improve their environmental footprint and serves to provide schools an opportunity to “green their school, green their grounds and green the students”.

The Florida Wildlife Federation is partnering with the Iris Garden Club on NWF’s Trees for Wildlife grant. FWF made the club aware of the grant opportunity and encouraged the group to apply. Additionally, FWF is assisting with implementation and publicity for the grant and participating in the January 16, 2016 tree giveaway.
