Marketplace Co Op Opens At The Downtown Disney Marketplace

Marketplace Co Op

The Marketplace Co Op opened today at the Downtown Disney Marketplace, and we were fortunate enough to get an early peek at this new and exciting area!

The Marketplace Co Op, in the former Team Mickey location, houses six specialty merchandise locations that will be updated every quarter so your shopping experience will be able to change with the season to serve as a showcase for new items and lines of products.

The interior of the Marketplace Co Op is really sparse and industrial looking so that the individual spaces can really take on the lifestyle and look of its content.

Marketplace Co Op

I especially loved the chandelier with its mixture of antiques and modern sensibility.

Marketplace Co Op

I also like how the Marketplace Co Op is still open to TrenD and Downtown Disney Marketplace Guest Relations to give the space an even more unified feel!

Now it is time to get to the good part…

The six new specialty merchandise locations of the Marketplace Co Op!!!

D-Tech on Demand: A place to personalize and customize your own electronic accessories

Marketplace Co Op

Marketplace Co Op

D-Tech on Demand has a wide variety of electronics, headphones, speakers, phone cases, and electronic accessories, but the gem of the store is the D-Tech On Demand Cases!

Marketplace Co Op

Marketplace Co Op

In the center of the store is a bay of iPads where you can choose the perfect case for YOU and even personalize it with your name! Currently the D-Tech On Demand Cases are only available for the iPhone 4/4S/5/5S and the Samsung Galaxy S3 & S4. We were told that new phones will be added soon!

Marketplace Co Op

The D-Tech On Demand customized cell phone cases are $36.95 and the Personalized D-Tech On Demand cell phone cases are $44.95.

Marketplace Co Op

Also available are Disney Vacation Club Resort specific phone cases with the DVC logo. DVC member do receive a 10% discount on these customized cell phone cases. We were given conflicting information about if these are exclusive to DVC members, so we will update you with information as we find out!

The Trophy Room: Vintage inspired, lifestyle sports apparel, and collectibles.

Marketplace Co Op

While this area of the Marketplace Co Op is definitely the least ‘Disney’ of the areas I have to say that it is one of my absolute favorites!

Marketplace Co Op World Cup

The area has an old world gentleman’s sporting club feel, and is filled with vintage apparel that is absolutely reasonably priced!

Marketplace Co Op

I was kind of bummed that they didn’t have an runDisney Merchandise here, since Team Mickey was the place to get those items!

However, my biggest complaint about The Trophy Room is that there was no love for my Alma Mater Virginia Tech…Go Hokies!!!

Beautifully Disney: A beauty destination for woman featuring make-up, fragrance, and beauty accessories.

Marketplace Co Op Beautifully Disney

The Beautifully Disney area at the Marketplace Co Op is definitely the smallest area of the six, but it packs quite a punch with all that they have to offer!

Marketplace Co Op Aulani

Inside this area you will find the entire Beautifully Disney line, spa items that are exclusive to Aulani, H2O products, and fragrances galore.

Marketplace Co Op Pop of Minnie

There are also certified makeup artists that are happy to give you a complimentary mini-makeover using the Beautifully Disney products! Talk about a great break from the parks!

Marketplace Co Op Make Over Area

Marketplace Co Op Make over

Right now, they have an extremely limited promotion where for every $60 you spend you can receive a shirt with the Beautifully Disney logo. There are only 300 of these shirts, so they will go quickly.

Marketplace Co Op Beautifully Disney Shirt

One little tid bit of fun! While I was getting my mini-makeover this morning we got a peek at the new Beautifully Disney Makeup Mirror coming to the stores in December. The details are amazing and it’s a great size for home and travel. I have a feeling that I am going to be buying a lot of these as gifts for the holidays!

Marketplace Co Op Mirror

Centerpiece: Home product for Guests that want a splash of Disney in their room furnishings, textiles, and everyday ware.

Marketplace Co Op Centerpiece

Centerpiece at the Marketplace Co Op is going to cause a lot of issues in my house, because there wasn’t one thing that I didn’t want to buy!!!!

Marketplace Co Op Orange Bird

You had me rom the 20,000 Leagues Mug, the Orange Bird wall of amazingness, the Mr. Toad small tray, and the Tiki Room Cloth Napkins!

Marketplace Co Op 20,000 Leagues Mug

I’m just going to give you pictures so we can mourn the loss of our money together!!!

Marketplace Co Op Tiki Room Napkins

Marketplace Co Op Mr Toad

Zoey and Pickles: A girls’ destination containing the latest trends and glamour for the up and coming fashionista.

Marketplace Co Op Pascal Shirt

Full of great clothes, accessories, and shoes in an assortment of styles Zoey and Pickles is sure to have something that your girl can’t live without.

Marketplace Co Op Shoes

The displays are fun and colorful, and even the stools are just the right size for them to sit and try on shoes!

This is a much needed area for girls who have maybe outgrown the Princesses, but are still a little young to venture next door to TrenD!

Cherry Tree Lane: Accessories for the sophisticated woman with a passion for scarves, shoes, bags and jewelry.

Marketplace Co Op Cherry Tree Lane

Cherry Tree Lane…you are also going to get me in a lot of trouble!!!

Marketplace Co Op Mary Poppins

The design of Cherry Tree Lane has a lot of nods to Mary Poppins and is home to a great line of merchandise inspired by the movie

Marketplace Co Op Vera Bradley

This is also going to be where you will find new Disney Dooney and Bourke and Disney Vera Bradley purses launching in the future.

Full of fun accessories, purses to die for, and a great atmosphere Cherry Tree Lane is awesome!

A lot of the merchandise featured at the Marketplace Co Op is currently available on DisneyShopping.com, however we are hearing that the pieces are selling out quickly, so my best piece of advice is to call Walt Disney World Merchandise Guest Services at 877-560-6477 (toll Free) with a detailed description of what you are looking for if you can’t wait for your ‘Must Have’ items!

Marketplace Co Op Shopping Bag

I really love the idea of the Marketplace Co Op, because it is a way to get out of the hustle and bustle that can be shopping at Walt Disney World for more of a boutique and unique shopping experience. I also can’t wait to see how these spaces evolve as Disney Springs is built!!!

We posted more photos on our Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook accounts if you want even more great pics from this morning at the Marketplace Co Op!

A Look at Bay Lake Tower At Disney’s Contemporary Resort With Kelly

Bay Lake Tower
Photo: Disney

This week Kelly takes us along as she looks at Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort in the Walt Disney World Resort.

When I was a child I was mystified by Disney’s Contemporary Resort. All I kept thinking was that a building that had a monorail going through it seemed to be way too technologically advanced to be real, and that I could spend all day riding the monorail through the resort.

When I became a Disney Vacation Club member they were in the process of building Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, and I couldn’t wait to see the expansion on the Contemporary.

Bay Lake Tower

I was able to do a walkthrough of a mock room at Saratoga Springs, and I loved the design aesthetic that had been chosen for this resort as soon as I walked through the door. It made me think of the exit ramp at Space Mountain and what I pictured the advertised resorts on “Mars” or “Saturn” may look like. While it was certainly close to what I envisioned, it ended up being so much more.

Bay Lake Tower Room

Once the opening date was set I booked a room and since that first visit, I have been back a few times. While Bay Lake Tower is a fairly small Disney Vacation Club Property with just over 400 rooms, the building is huge and filled with beautiful and fun Disney touches and artwork.

I find that I don’t stay at Bay Lake Tower very often, because I tend to stay away from the Magic Kingdom resort area and I prefer more on-site amenities in my resort.

Bay Lake Tower

I recommend this resort for people who are going to spend the majority of their time at the Magic Kingdom (or Epcot as it is accessible by monorail through the TTC). This resort is also fantastic for those who can’t live without Wishes, the nighttime firework display at the Magic Kingdom. The soundtrack for the show plays in all Bay Lake Tower resort rooms as well as up on the top floor in the Top Of The World Lounge. It’s a fantastic way to end those magical days.

My three tips for enjoying Bay Lake Tower:

Bay Lake Tower

Tip 1: Have an early dinner at the Wave restaurant in the Contemporary Resort before heading to Top Of The World for appetizers and drinks afterwards. My recommendations: Bay Lake Sunset (vanilla vodka, coconut rum, pineapple juice, and grenadine) with an order of soft pretzels with dips to share as you watch the fireworks from the lounge

Tip 2: When booking, request a room near the causeway. As there are limited amenities in Bay Lake Tower itself, it’s nice to be able to walk quickly over to the Contemporary for quick snacks and sundries

Tip 3: Try to plan an evening while staying here to just relax in the room. Community Hall has board games you can rent for free as a dvc member, so grab a game and relax and enjoy the ambiance of your room.

Star Wars Weekends Characters with Heather

Heather joins us again, and we couldn’t be happier!!! Heather is an annual passholder that loves coming up with excuses to take a trip to the World. Follow her adventures at Disney on twitter and instagram. Visit her website, I Love Characters, to see pictures of the over 200 characters she’s met at Disney World and Disneyland.

My favorite thing to do at Disney is meet characters, and Star Wars Weekend provides a great opportunity for this! You can meet over 30 characters, including beloved Disney characters in Star Wars outfits! Today I’m going to show you the where and hows of the Star Wars character meets.

Before attending, I recommend re-watching all the films. I love the originals, but I don’t watch the prequels too often. Also, along with the well known characters, there are some characters with smaller parts in the films, and I wanted to make sure I knew all the characters I would find! Star Wars Weekends also has characters from the animated series, the Clone Wars (rumor is, this might be the last year for Clone Wars characters.) Even though the theme of this year’s Star Wars Weekends is the new Rebels animated series, none of those characters meet (though they are in the closing show and motorcade parade.)

Over the 2 years I’ve attended Star Wars Weekends, I’ve only missed one character: Commander Rex from Clone Wars. Since I never saw the series, I was ok with that, lol. My first year, I met 17 on the first day, 4 on the second day, and 7 on our last day. This year, I didn’t spend the whole time character hunting, so it was a little less. I also did both character meals, which helped not having to run around to meet some characters! I met 5 at the character breakfast, 9 on our first Star Wars Weekends day (including the character dinner), and 11 on our last day (which was our only full Star Wars Weekends day.)

One quick tip, if you have any questions about when characters are out, make sure you ask the Cast Members in red Star Wars shirts. The other CMs with the characters (they are in white and blue stripes) usually don’t know the Star Wars Weekends character schedules. I also recommend KennythePirate’s blog, which usually has the correct info! Also, while most characters have set places to meet, and you get in line, there are several roaming characters. You don’t have to worry about lines, but they are a little harder to stop and get a picture with. If you ask one of the red shirt CMs in that area, they will know exactly when the roaming characters come out as well.

Now it’s time to get to all the characters that meet! There are 6 Disney characters that dress as Star Wars Characters: Jedi Mickey, Leia Minnie, Stormtrooper Donald, Vader Goofy, and Ewoks Chip & Dale.  If you don’t want to wait in line for these characters, you can do the Jedi Mickey’s Star Wars Dine at Hollywood & Vine. If you couldn’t get an ADR for this dinner, the good news is they’ve moved Mickey, Minnie, Donald & Goofy into the Darth’s Mall this year, so you won’t have to wait in the sun & heat like in past years! Mickey & Minnie switch out with Donald & Goofy, usually on the half hour. Chip & Dale meet near the Sci-Fi Dine-In all day, and their line is usually reasonable.

Star Wars Weekends Characters

One of the characters with a constant long line is Chewbacca. He meets across from Star Tours, where they have the fun speeder bike photo spot. He’s a character that you might want to try at rope drop, though if you wait until after the parade, an Ewok joins him. The first year I waited over 40 minutes for him (and the wait can get up to 90 minutes.) This year, I lucked out because I ran over to his spot after a rain storm, hoping he would come back out. There was only one other guest there, and I asked one of the Star Wars Weekends CMs if he would be back out, since it was already close to 8pm. She said, if I were you, I would stay here. 😉 He and Wicket came out shortly after. I only waited about 5 minutes! The characters have been staying out later this year, which is great because usually the line is shorter, and you’re not waiting in the sun!

In this Star Tours area, you’ll also find members of the Cantina Band roaming. I was able to catch one of them on my last trip. I asked if he signed, and he motioned that he didn’t, but one of the others did. There was a mob of people around the others, so I just decided to be content with getting my picture and moved on. I had hoped to catch other members this time, but my  timing never worked.

A little past where Chewy meets, next to the Sounds Dangerous theater, you’ll find Queen Amidala. She also has a pretty backdrop that you can’t miss. Her line usually isn’t bad throughout the day, and her costume and makeup is gorgeous, so I definitely recommend stopping by!

Star Wars Weekends Characters

Head on over to the Streets of America for our next set of characters. Near Lights Motor Action! and the Monsters Inc meet & greet exit, you’ll find the Clone Wars characters. The first day, I walked by and there were 3 characters meeting together. I got in line on the second day, and met Ahsoka Tano and Commander Cody together, though Commander Cody was just about to leave. This year, my priority was Asajj Ventress, and I got her on my first try. The line is usually pretty short, so it should be easy to catch who you want. They also meet in front of a great backdrop. If you are there on a non Star Wars Weekends day (or when the characters aren’t out), you can get a great photo with just the backdrop! You’ll also find Clone Troopers roaming in this area

Star Wars Weekends Characters

The Jedi Council meets in the San Francisco section of the Streets of America, right next to the Singing in the Rain umbrella. There are 4 Jedi who switch out, though sometimes you can luck into catching 2 together. I got in line and met Shaak Ti, and then I got back in line and was able to meet Anakin Skywalker. The next day I came back, wanting to meet the last Jedi member meeting, Kit Fisto. This was the only time I got to the front of the line and wanted a different character than was out. Thankfully they let us wait (there were about 3 of us waiting.) I lucked out and I met him and Shaak Ti together. I think of all the characters I met at Star Wars Weekends, Shaak Ti was the most talkative. She talked to me about the droids on my shirt, becoming a Jedi, and showing me Jedi poses to do for our pictures. Mace Windu wasn’t meeting that year, so he was one of my character priorities this year. I got in the line for one of his first sets of the day, and caught him with Kit Fisto. He wasn’t nearly as talkative as Shaak Ti, but he still liked my R2-D2 dress, lol. I checked this line a few times, and it never seemed that long of a wait, though it may seem a little slow since the Jedi all like to interact.

In the same area as the Jedi meet, you’ll find roaming Jawas. My first year, I had a hard time getting a picture with one, since the Jawa kept turning around and away from me. I had better luck the second day, and there was even a Photopass photographer near there that took a few pictures of us. The Jawas also love to make trades. I saw someone trade a paper clip and get a used soda can in return, another get a set of stickers. I forgot to bring something to small to trade, but on the second day, the Jawa took out a toy camera, and kept trying to trade it for my own camera! I kept saying no, I think I like mine better, lol! This year, I met 2 Jawas at the Star Wars Galactic Dine-In Breakfast at the Sci-Fi Dine-In. Once again I forgot to bring a paper clip or something small, but I tried to trade a lifesaver that was in a plastic wrapper. Both refused, ah well!!

Star Wars Weekends Characters

You’ll see a great backdrop over by the Hat, and here is where you can find Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, and usually C3PO and R2-D2 switching out throughout the day. The droids sometimes have technical issues, so they may not show up, or leave before they are supposed to. Of course my main goal the day I wore my R2-D2 dress was to meet him, and I got in line an hour early for what was supposed to be Leia and R2…and that day, he didn’t meet. Ah well, thankfully I had met the droids my first year. If C3PO and R2-D2 are meeting, they are the only characters that don’t sign. Even though I couldn’t catch R2, I had a great time meeting both Luke and Leia. They switch out, though sometimes you can catch them together. They were meeting together when I was waiting for Luke, and then she left after meeting the family before me. That was my luck with the line that day lol!

Star Wars Weekends Characters

If you’re looking for the Dark Side characters, the Backlot area is where you need to be! Here you can meet Darth Maul, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Jango Fett, and 5 roaming characters. Darth Vader’s line is usually one of the longest lines of the day, and I highly recommend getting in line at rope drop for a shorter wait. He meets undercover (so, no sun and not as hot!) near the Monsters Inc meet & greet. Even if you have to wait a while, watching Vader intereact with everyone is incredibly entertaining. When I stood in this line, I watched one girl take her shoe off for him to sign, and he made her get on the ground and bow before he would do it. Another guest tried to hug him, and he did not approve. He also force choked several guests (I was going to ask for that pose, but I chickened out once I got up there.) When he leaves and comes back to his spot, Stormtroopers walk him back and forth, which is really fun to watch, especially other guests reactions!

A few steps away from Darth Vader is Darth Maul. Of all the characters I met, he was definitely the creepiest! I was a little freaked out, I don’t know how kids didn’t run away, lol. He didn’t want to sign my book, and we stared each other down until he finally did. Then he snapped it closed, which was pretty funny (even though I know it wasn’t supposed to be!) I can’t talk enough about how in character all of the Star Wars Weekends characters were, it was amazing and made every wait worth it. He meets near the Backlot Tour, and his line is kind of hidden behind the Backlot line.

Star Wars Weekends Characters

Across from where Darth Maul meets is where Boba Fett and Jango Fett meet. You can’t miss it because there is a great backdrop for this meet! When the characters aren’t out, you can take fun pictures here.

Star Wars Weekends Characters

Boba and Jango switch out, and usually the CM there wouldn’t let you wait for who you wanted to see. Thankfully I was able to catch both by just waiting once each time. I met Jango on the first day, and Boba on the third day.

Star Wars Weekends Characters

The roaming characters in this area were so fun. I met a Stormtrooper, and he walked me over to another area. My mom was still in the first area, and I was telling her to come over. The Stormtrooper walked towards her and pointed at her to come over, it was great. There was a Photopass photographer there, so I got a lot of great pictures, even if my mom was somewhere else, lol. I almost got another picture with a Stormtrooper on the third day, but after he motioned that I come over to where he was, he walked away!

There are also several Tusken Raiders in this area. When you are waiting in line for Darth Maul, you might even see some peeking over the wall at you before they come out. As you can see in the picture, this one didn’t like me very much. I asked if he signed, and he just stared at me. Then I said please, and he took the book and signed, but when I asked for a pic, you can see the pose, lol. Another time we were trying to get another character, and didn’t know that one of the Tusken Raiders was behind my mom until he scarred her. If only I had a picture of that! This year, when I went to get a picture, he came right up to my camera and pulled out the lens cloth and played with it. My selfie with him probably came out better than the regular picture, and it ended up being shown during the pre-fireworks show at the hat!

Gamorrean Guard is another great roaming character. I know I said Darth Maul was creepy, but this guy was almost just a creepy. His eyes kind of looked right through you! When I asked if he signed, at first I thought he wasn’t going to, since he posed for a picture. But then he grabbed my book and signed.

The first year I went, I had trouble catching the last 2 roaming characters, bounty hunters Zam Wesell and Aurra Sing. Zam Wesell came out while I was in line for Boba Fett, and the guy behind us held our place in line while I ran to try to catch her (one more reason to chat with people while you wait in line!) I was able to get a picture before she started walking around and got mobbed, and it’s one of my favorite Star Wars Weekends pictures. This year I had an easier time getting a picture, and we even took a selfie together.

Aurra Sing was MUCH harder to catch. We held the place in line for the guy behind us, while he ran over with his son, and was able to get a picture and signature. I waited until we met Boba Fett, and then started following her around, but she just wouldn’t stop. She’ll stare right at you, but not really stop. Finally I tried not smiling at her, and she stopped for a second and I finally got the picture! She wouldn’t sign for me though, but she did grab others’ books. This year, there was a photopass photographer following her, and I had an easier time having her stop, sign my book, and take a picture…but she ran away before I could get a selfie. 😉

Star Wars Weekends Characters

Needless to say, while you don’t have to worry about lines, catching these roaming characters can sometimes be a challenge. Once you get a picture with them, though, and just hang back, they are a ton of fun to watch interact with everyone. One of my favorite moments this year was watching Aurra Sing approach a kid in a stroller, and then he pulled the top down because he was so scared!

If you don’t want to try to catch some of the Dark Side characters throughout the day, you can meet Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Stormtroopers, Jawas, and Greedo at the Star Wars Galactic Dine-In Breakfast. You can only meet Greedo at the character breakfast this year, he won’t be a random character during Star Wars Weekends this year.

I hope I didn’t bore you on my character hunt throughout Star Wars Weekends. It was a lot of waiting, but for a character hunter like me, it was completely worth it!

LEGOLAND Florida: Duplo Valley Closer Look

 Duplo Valley LEGOLAND Florida

DUPLO Valley at LEGOLAND Florida brings the LEGO DUPLO line of preschool building toys to life with new attractions, an indoor air-conditioned play area, and an interactive water play area all geared to toddlers ages 2 to 5.

httpv://youtu.be/8RAkpz8A13Q

DUPLO Valley may be for toddlers, but it was designed as the ideal because this area of LEGOLAND Florida was created with special areas in mind to make this the ideal place for families to play and relax together.

In DUPLO Valley, you will find more benches, covered play and queue areas, and themed play geared toward multiple age and skill levels.

DUPLO Valley Themed Play Area DUPLO Train
Themed play are in the DUPLO Train Queue

There are three new attractions in DUPLO Valley that all feature themed play areas in the queue and interactive elements for family members who may not be riding on the attractions.

Duplo Valley

Once aboard the DUPLO Train, toddlers explore a countryside themed route of farms, campgrounds, and fishing holes. There are a ton of really great fun details on the DUPLO Train! My favorite are the Railroad crossings complete with arms that raise and lower. When designing the DUPLO Train, they made sure to leave the tunnel as open as possible so if younger guests were riding alone they could still see their family at the station.

DUPLO Valley DUPLO Train Detail

For the DUPLO Train, guests under 34″ must ride with a responsible person 48″ or taller, guests 34″ and above may ride unaccompanied.

DUPLO Valley Tractor Area

You can jump aboard the DUPLO Tractor that is made just for them to help the farmers plow the corn fields while searching to find missing farm animals. I love that each tractor has a separate area for the child to ‘drive’ while the parents ride along. Other guests also make the DUPLO Tractor ride even more fun by activating the sounds of the animals inside the farm.

Guests 36″ – 48″ can ride with a responsible person 48″ or taller, guests 48″ and above can ride unaccompanied.

Duplo Valley

The DUPLO Splash & Play ares is a refreshing play area with intermittent water spouts and interactive water elements set among larger than life farm animals with a soft deck for safety.

DUPLO Valley Splash and Play Info

The DUPLO Tot Spot is the first of its kind at LEGOLAND Florida and is designed specially for children under the age of two and features a small slide and colorful playhouse.

DUPLO Valley Tot SpotThis a covered outdoor area with fans that provides a fun play area that is safe and secure for our youngest DUPLO guests.

DUPLO Valley also has a fun DUPLO Snack Bar where toddlers and parents alike can enjoy hot and fresh popcorn or caramel popcorn, as well as cool, refreshing drinks.

DUPLO Valley Snack Bar

There is also a really fun ‘Farmer’s Market’ themed play area and covered seating with fans at the DUPLO Snack Bar.

DUPLO VALLEY Snack Bar Play Area

Modeled after the DUPLO Set, the DUPLO Farm is an air-conditioned play area for children to slide, climb, and crawl around a whole host of friendly farm animals.

DUPLO Valley DUPLO Farm Inside

Inside the DUPLO Farm, there is a special Toddler Play Room for kids to get a break from all the stimulation of the area as well as a Baby Care Center, presented by Winter Haven Hospital, provides a nursing and changing area, bottle warming, and more.

DUPLO Valley DUPLO Farm Baby Care Center

The whole DUPLO Valley area of LEGOLAND Florida is extremely well designed and executed to keep the youngest visitors to the park happy and engaged while keeping the rest of the family comfortable.

It is a vast improvement, and even Zoe is looking forward to checking out the area soon!

Duplo Valley

LEGOLAND Florida guests can also purchase the new ‘Preschool Pass’, including weekday (Monday-Friday) admission to LEGOLAND Florida and standard parking for both one child under five and one adult for a full year at $90, plus tax.

Assigned to the child, the pass allows an adult parent or guardian to attend the park with the toddler. The pass is transferrable to multiple adults in the family, allowing, for example, a mother to visit one day, and a grandparent the next, making it ideal for families to bring their little ones to LEGOLAND Florida during the week.

Harambe Nights Sneak Peek

Harambe Nights Logo
Harambe Nights: Every Saturday from June 7 – August 9, 2014, with a Welcome Reception starting at 7 p.m. and a 7:30 p.m. show time for “The Lion King – Concert in the Wild.”

Harambe Nights kicks off its ten week run at Animal Kingdom this Saturday, and we got sneak peek at what you will be able to experience during this limited run special event!

Harambe Nights Welcome Reception

When you are thinking about making the investment to purchase a Harambe Nights ticket, I would encourage you to think of your evening more in terms of a Tables in Wonderland Event rather than a Hard Ticket Event, like Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, because of the quality and exclusivity of the food & beverage, merchandise, and entertainment options you will be experiencing.

Harambe Nights Welcome Appetizer

Harambe Nights begins with a Welcome Reception, where guests get a chance to spend some time in their host village of Harambe where will be greeted with a variety of appetizers like Moroccan beef kefta with tamarind glaze, pickled fennel paneer cheese with tomato, Durban-spiced chicken bites, and a safari cheeseburger slider with tomato curry aioli that can be paired with African-inspired wine and beers.

Harambe Nights Beverages

After the Welcome Reception, grab your ‘Lion Chow’, a salty-sweet snack combo of sea-salted pretzel chips, benne (sesame) crumbles, cardamom candied pecans, golden raisins, dried cherries, and candied ginger served in a beautifully made wooden roll, and head down to the newly renovated Harambe Theatre for a unique and what is sure to be unforgettable performance of “The Lion King – Concert in the Wild.”

Harambe Nights Lion Chow
The Lion Chow is so yummy!!! I seriously couldn’t stop eating it!

The Lion King – Concert in the Wild” brings a bit of Broadway to Animal Kingdom as this marks the first time that Walt Disney World Parks have collaborated with Walt Disney Studios and Disney Theatrical Productions to create a full length Theatre experience to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of “The Lion King”.

Harambe Nights Harambe Theatre
The new Harambe Theatre area at Animal Kingdom is beautiful!

A company of over 50 members, including a live orchestra, narrators, chorus, and troupe of dancers, help create this unique re-telling of the classic “Lion King” story through movement, music, and song where the Village of Harambe draws from their rich history of storytelling from around the drum circle to celebrate Simba’s evolving story in a way that pays tribute to their culture and the of film and stage productions.

The Lion King – Concert in the Wild” has an approximate run time of 55 minutes, and features new music and arrangements inspired by the music of the film and stage scores.

Harambe Nights Harambe Theatre 2
Details from the outside of the new Harambe Theatre.

Each week a new celebrity narrator will join the company for “The Lion King – Concert in the Wild”, and the line-up of talent is exciting.

The celebrity narrators for the ten week run of Harambe Nights are:

  • June 7 – Viola Davis: “The Help,” “Ender’s Game”

  • June 14 – Avery Brooks: “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “American History”

  • June 21 – Montego Glover: “The Following,” “Memphis”

  • June 28 – David Alan Grier: “Porgy & Bess,” “In Living Color”

  • July 5 – Michael Beach: “ER,” “Third Watch,” “Sons of Anarchy”

  • July 12 – Harry Lennix: “The Blacklist,” “The Five Heartbeats”

  • July 19 – Joe Morton: “Scandal,” “American Gangster,” “The Good Wife”

  • July 26 – Alfre Woodard: “Desperate Housewives,” “Miss Evers Boys”

  • August 2 – Brian Stokes Mitchell: “Ragtime,” “Trapper John, M.D.,” “Glee”

  • August 9 – Patina Miller: “Pippin,” “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1”

In addition to the live performances on-stage, “The Lion King – Concert in the Wild” will also utilize new screens that will show iconic clips from ‘The Lion King’ film and be used to advance the story through the performance in a dynamic way.

Harambe Nights Marsha Jackson Randolph

Marsha Jackson Randolph and Choreographer & Stage Director Warren Adams, who’s recent work on Broadway includes Of Mice and Men, Motown, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch, guided us through the run through of a few numbers from “The Lion King – Concert in the Wild” in their rehearsal space during our sneak peek, and it was awesome! The performance is more of movement piece with nods to iconic choreographers that catches the spirit and energy of ‘The Lion King’ film and stage production. I can only imagine how it will look when it is in its full form!

After “The Lion King – Concert in the Wild” you will take to the streets of Harambe for a party like you have never experienced!

Harambe Nights Street Party Concept

Harambe Nights Street Party is a totally immersive experience,” said Show Director Forrest Bahruth. “There will be opportunities for guests to get involved, to dance, to be entertained or just to relax and enjoy the evening.”

During the Harambe Nights Street Party, the streets will come alive with your favorite Disney characters, stilt walkers, and specialty performers who encourage you to join in their traditions through some glow-in-the-dark face painting and Afro-pop music from the Harambe Nights Band and DJ Khalifa.

Harambe Nights Street Party Performers

The Mickey’s Jammin Jungle Parade floats, puppets, and performers will also be out for unique photo opportunities.

Harambe Nights Characters

And you can’t have a party without food! The streets of Harambe will be filled with a buffet of amazing African inspired dishes. If you’re a fan of Jiko—The Cooking PlaceBoma—Flavors of Africa or Sanaa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge or Tusker House at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, chances are you’ve tried some global flavors on the menu.

Harambe Nights Plate

During our sneak peek at Harambe Nights, we also got the chance to sample these great dishes and my biggest piece of advice is to come hungry!!!

The Harambe Nights Menu Includes:

Fresh Cooked Breads, Salads and More

Harambe Nights Salads
The assorted salads were a great palate cleanser between all the savory and rich spices of the Harambe Nights Menu. The ingredients were fresh and crisp!
  • Watercress, melon, feta and berry balsamic onion salad
  • Kachumbari salad with tomato, paneer, carrot and cilantro
  • Roasted beetroot salad with sunflower seeds
  • Creamy mac ‘n cheese
  • Spicy vegetable samosa with mango chutney
  • Traditional naan, onion kulcha and pappadum breads
  • Roasted pepper hummus, raita and garlic-ginger pickle

Surf and Turf

Harambe Nights Lamb Shank
The on-stage-seared lamb chops with tamarind pomegranate sauce was tender, but the sweet and earthy potato medley side was amazing. I **may** have gone back for more potatoes…
  • Mango, radish, lime and mustard seed salad
  • Watermelon, cucumber and fennel salad
  • Coriander chutney roasted potatoes
  • Line-caught corvina filet with goan curry sauce
  • On-stage-seared lamb chops with tamarind pomegranate sauce

Slow-cook Action Stations

Harambe Nights Eggplant
This was my favorite dish that I tasted at Harambe Nights Sneak Peek! The vegetarian eggplant tikka masala curry was spicy while still retaining the taste of the eggplant and it was served over creamy goat cheese pap that was tender and creamy. It was perfect!
  • Fork-tender peri barbecued pork
  • Vegetarian eggplant tikka masala curry served over creamy goat cheese pap
  • Butter chicken thighs
  • Vegetarian legume wat served over basmati rice

Sweets

Harambe Nights Dessert
These bits were equal parts amazing and wonderful, because the texture and taste were spot on! It was the perfect sweet and slightly salty combination with a kick of coffee.
  • Golden pineapple with toasted coconut
  • Apple slices with Amarula caramel sauce
  • Ripe melon with minted lime yogurt dip
  • Rice pudding, dried fruit compote and pistachio gremolata
  • Caramel salted Tanzania chocolate Kenya coffee bite
  • Chai cream with zebra stripes
  • Ice cream bars
Harambe Nights Samosas
The Spicy vegetable samosa with mango chutney are one of my most favorite dishes ever! You can never go wrong with the hot and spicy vegetable filling combined with the cold and sweet mango chutney!

There will also be Lion King merchandise and collectibles that have been exclusively created for Harambe Nights that will be available for purchase during the event.

Short, Short Tips: Universal Studios Florida Mornings

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22GW2_fEoUg&feature=share&list=UUxhza5Nkv4ukqKmIFLE9dgA

Short, Short Tips: Universal Studios Florida Mornings

When I am visiting Universal Studios Florida at the Universal Orlando Resort, I like to start my day a little differently than most people!

Instead of hitting Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem or Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit, I like to head to the back of the park to Men in Black.

Short Short Tips Universal Studios Florida Mornings Men in Black

It may seem like the exact opposite of what you should do, but everyone tends to stay up front while the back of the park is emptier.

As you walk past the front of the park you may feel like you are swimming upstream, but it gives you time to see where people are going in the park so you can start thinking of where you would like to head to next.

Then when you are done getting all the ‘bugs’, you can easily head back towards the front of the park or to The Simpsons area of Universal Studios Florida.

We usually end up going towards The Simpsons, because if we are hungry we will eat an early lunch or we will ride and shop before heading to our favorite lunch spot in Universal Studios Florida, Finnegan’s Bar & Grill!

Disney’s Pop Century Resort: This must be POP!

Disney’s Pop Century Resort holds some great memories for Kelly Christine, and so she is back to share her favorite things and tips about staying here!
Pop Century Resort Sign
As I admitted last week, there are times I don’t stay at DVC resorts. One of those times tends to be when a large group of my friends get together for an event.
Pop Century Resort Inside Lobby
When events like this happen, we tend to rent out a block of rooms together at Pop Century. For the trips that you’re not going to spend much time relaxing, this is a great place for a quality experience at a reasonable price tag.
Pop Century Resort Everything Pop
Disney’s Pop Century Resort just turned 10 years old this past December and is quite a large resort with almost 3000 rooms.
Pop Century Resort Years
The resort is divided up by the later decades of the 20th century and all the pop culture that goes along with it. Originally there was going to be a second half of this resort but instead the buildings were converted into the resort we know as Art of Animation. There is a bridge that connects the resorts so you can see what the other half of the resort became instead.
Pop Century Resort Petals
Some of my favorite memories with friends were made at this resort, we would spend our days running around the resort and our evenings we would takeover a few tables by the pool and laugh until all hours of the night.
Pop Century Resort Decor
When I think back on my trips to Disney’s Pop Century Resort, I remember what happened outside of the parks more than inside the parks.

Tips for Enjoying Disney’s Pop Century Resort

Pop Century Resort Brownie
Tip 1: Get a brownie sundae! I’m not a cheesecake fan so I can’t recommend the tie-dyed cheesecake but I can confirm the brownie sundae is delicious.
Pop Century Resort Ping Pong Balls
Tip 2: Play some ping pong! Grab a ping pong ball from the gumball dispensers next to Petals Pool Bar and have some fun!
Pop Century Resort Pool
Tip 3: Unwind by the pool! After the end of a long day, I recommend grabbing a cool beverage (Piña Colava or water are my favorites at Pop) and relaxing with friends. My friends and I didn’t go to a nighttime show most nights and instead enjoyed catching up with each other while unwinding from the day.
Pop Century Resort Walkway
Tip 4: The Pop Century Resort has an AMAZING loop of songs that play, and you will find yourself singing whenever you are out! It is awesome!
Pop Century Resort POP
Have you been to Disney’s Pop Century Resort? What’s your favorite part about staying here? Do you have a favorite tip or memory?

Based on demand, distribution may begin prior to Park opening. Please note: You must have a FASTPASS ticket to receive an autograph.

To receive a FASTPASS ticket:

  • Join the line of the celebrity you would most like to meet. You may not save a place in line for other party members.

WWE NXT Takeover Overview

NXT Takeover Poster

NXT Takeover – May 29, 2014 – Overview

NXT Takeover, the second live special to be shown on the WWE Network, is coming to Full Sail University on May 29, 2014, and I couldn’t be more excited!

I expect the show to be taken to the next level after the success of the first NXT Special ArRIVAL on the WWE Network where the show had 21 worldwide Twitter trends and was ranked 3rd in overall social mentions for primetime programs on both cable and broadcast with more social mentions than American Idol, the Vikings premiere on History Channel, college basketball on ESPN, and Vampire Diaries on CW.

WWE NXT Takeover NXT ArRIVAL

On Wednesday, May 28, at 10:00 pm EST, the NXT Takeover Preview on the WWE Network will take an in-depth look at the rivalries behind the matches with Renee Young.

During this preview, viewers will also be able to watch exclusive interviews with WWE Hall of Famers Bret “Hit Man” Hart and “Nature Boy” Ric Flair, as they prepare to be ringside for the NXT Women’s Championship Match between Natalya and Charlotte. I am really excited to hear these two WWE Legends talk about their families past, present, and future!

NXT Takeover Preshow

NXT Takeover Preshow begins at 7:30 pm EST on May 29th, as Renee Young and a panel of experts including Christian, Paul Heyman, and Cesaro who will be analyzing each match of the night ahead. You never know what you can expect, so I hoping that there are some special guests that will be joining them!

WWE NXT Takeover Stage 1

At 8:00 p.m. EST/5:00 p.m. PST, NXT Takeover begins, and it is sure to be a night packed full of action and great matches.

Speaking of matches, let’s look at what is lined up for NXT Takeover!

NXT Championship Match – Adrian Neville (c) vs. Tyson Kidd

NXT Takeover Neville Kidd
Photo: WWE

I am going to admit that I am EXTREMELY biased on this match, because I am huge fan of the Man That Gravity Forgot Adrian Neville.

WWE NXT Takeover Adrian Neville Flying

Tyson Kidd, the last graduate of the legendary Hart Dungeon, arrived on the NXT scene and has been gaining wins to help propel him to Takeover the NXT Championship from Adrian Neville.

But even with momentum on his side, Tyson Kidd is going to have a battle on his hands as Adrian Neville is a highly efficient wrestler both on the ground and in the air with his signature finisher he calls the ‘Red Arrow’ (corkscrew shooting star press).

WWE NXT Takeover Adrian Neville

I expect this match to be a ‘slobberknocker’ (thank you JR for the perfect term) full of action and memorable moments.

I am hoping that Neville keeps the NXT Championship, but a loss could set up an amazing rivalry!

NXT Women’s Championship Tournament Finals – Natalya vs. Charlotte

NXT Takeover Charlotte Natalya
Photo: WWE

Natalya and Charlotte both come from legendary WWE families, and the intensity of their match is sure to be taken to a new level as family members will be in their corner during this NXT Women’s Championship Tournament Final.

The Flair and Hart families have always had an on and off screen rivalry, so seeing these ladies continue in their family’s legacies is exciting.

WWE NXT Takeover Natalya

Natalya, a third generation WWE Wrestler who’s father is Jim ‘The Anvil’ Neidhartand uncle is Bret Hart who will be accompanying her to the ring, is sure to be tasked with carrying a large majority of this match. Natalya is, again in my opinion, the backbone of the WWE Divas as she is a solid wrestler with her feet firmly on the ground and eyes towards her future.

WWE NXT Takeover Charlotte and Flair

Charlotte, daughter of WWE Legend Ric Flair who will be in her corner of the ring, is an extremely talented gal who’s star is definitely on the rise. With strong mic skills, an athletic and gymnastic competitor, and will to win Charlotte is going to be a worthy opponent.

WWE NXT Takeover Ric Flair

Natalya has a lot to gain from helping Charlotte not only win this match, but to help her emerge as a shining diamond among the growing field of NXT Divas. I think that Charlotte takes the NXT Women’s Championship belt, but Natalya wins bigger as she firmly takes a grasp on her role within the WWE.

NXT Tag Team Championship Match – The Ascension (c) vs. El Local and Kalisto

NXT Takeover The Ascension Tag Team
Photo: WWE

The Ascension has brought a new level of competitiveness that can’t be matched to NXT since they won the Tag Team Championship in October 2013.

The team’s gothic theme plays well, and Konnor and Viktor work extremely well together as a team because their skills and strengths compliment each other well and they always hit a great rhythm in the ring.

Conversely, El Local and Kalisto are a new Tag Team that seem to be confidently putting one toe in the ocean against this NXT powerhouse team. Individually, these two have a lot to offer and watching them put their skills together and grow as a team will be fun.

WWE NXT Takeover The Acenscion

I don’t think that El Local and Kalisto stand much of a chance against The Ascension, but I do think that the match will give some insight as to where the NXT Tag Team Championship may go in the future.

#1 Contender Match – Sami Zayn vs. Tyler Breeze

NXT Takeover Zayn Breeze
Photo: WWE

WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME??? How can I possibly choose in a match between Sami Zayn and Tyler Breeze!!!

Sami Zayn is a powerhouse of a wrestler, who because of his size and build is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Sami Zayn is electric in the ring with a vast repertoire of moves, likeable personality, and strong will to perform to the next level even when he has outdone himself in a match.

You can never count Sami Zayn out, because you don’t know where he will strike from next as he is as fast and deliberate on the ground and accurate when he is jumping from the post.

Tyler Breeze, the self-proclaimed King of Selfies, who’s gimmick has a tendency to overshadow his aggressive and athletic feats in the ring is a great match for Sami Zayn.

WWE NXT Takeover Tyler Breeze

Tyler Breeze, again not a big guy, thrives in matches that are fast paced however when he can slow down and grapple his athleticism shines through.

In a battle of these two fan favorites, we all win! Sami Zayn and Tyler Breeze are two great competitors who have a knack for drawing audiences into their matches, so this match is sure to have people chanting and screaming the whole time. I can’t wait!

Adam Rose vs. Camacho

NXT Takeover Rose Camacho
Photo: WWE

Camacho may have skipped out on his last match with Adam Rose, but the Exotic Express is chugging along and heading right towards him!

Camacho has stumbled a little since parting from Hunico, but his rage and aggression play to his advantage as they are in stark contrast to Adam Rose. He’s a solid wrestler, but he needs to own his anger and let that propel his confidence in the ring. I hope that the crowd really gets involved during this match, as it helps him move the match along with a new fire.

Adam Rose brings back a sense of fun that has been noticeably absent from the WWE for quite some time, but the difference is that he can back up his act with solid performances instead of slapstick.

WWE NXT Takeover Adam Rose

Adam Rose comes to the ring with an infectious entrance and charismatic personality, but once the bell rings he isn’t there to party he is there to win. Adam Rose is an extremely strong and solid wrestler who performs with intensity and aggression.

I think that Adam Rose is going to execute a solid match to ‘Choo Choo’ right over Camacho to help solidify his role of being more than a party animal and gimmick.

If you were lucky enough to grab a ticket to NXT Takeover, there are a few things that you may want to keep in mind.

Tips for Attending NXT Takeover at Full Sail University

WWE NXT Takeover Full Sail Gobo

  • Arrive at the Full Sail Live Venue early!!! There will be a lot of traffic going in and out of the Full Sail Live Venue with more television equipment and stages than usual, so you can expect parking to take a bit longer. I like to drive down to the end of the rows to find a space, because you can usually score a closer spot that way.
  • There will be a ‘Block Party’ outside of the Full Sail Live Venue, so the normal entrance off of University Park Drive (Near McDonalds and Ale House) will be closed so you will want to use the entrance off of 436 (South Semoran Blvd) near Winghouse and Chili’s. There will be signage to help direct you on how to enter the area to park.
  • NXT Takeover Preshow is held outside of the Full Sail Live Venue on campus, and if you aren’t close to the stage you don’t have to worry because there is a huge screen and sound system so you won’t miss a thing!

WWE NXT Takeover Stage 2

  • At the ‘Block Party’ surrounding the Preshow Stage, you will be able to find WWE & NXT merchandise, food, and other offerings from vendors.
  • Make sure you know what you can and cannot bring with you into the facility, because you will have to go through bag check. If you are bringing in a poster, they are going to take a look at it to make sure it isn’t obscene. You are allowed to bring in outside food and drink, however if your drink has a screw top you will be asked to throw away the cap.

WWE NXT Takeover Shelley and Dave

  • The Picture and Video Policy at NXT is strictly enforced by ushers. Photos of the event are permitted, but video is prohibited. If you are caught taking video, you will have to delete it and will be asked to leave. It’s no joke, so don’t even try!

Don’t forget to tune into the WWE Network to catch NXT Takeover with the Preview show on May 28th at 10:00 pm EST, the Preshow on May 29th at 7:30 pm EST, and for the matches of NXT Takeover on May 29th at 8:00 pm EST!

runDisney Announces Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend Details

runDisney Let the Wookie Win Star Wars

Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend Makes Its Intergalactic Arrival at Disneyland Resort in 2015

May The Course Be With You!

Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend is a four-day race weekend is first collaboration with Lucasfilm; Aerospace company Sierra Nevada Corporation to be inaugural event’s presenting sponsor; Race registration opens June 10

Joining forces with one of Hollywood’s most iconic brands, runDisney is creating another transportive race weekend – the Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend presented by Sierra Nevada Corporation at Disneyland Resort. The intergalactic journey begins January 15 and runs through January 18, 2015.

httpv://youtu.be/VNm9U-OW4jQ

The Star Wars event is the fourth runDisney race weekend scheduled for 2015 at Disneyland Resort, doubling the number of races held in 2013. The new race weekend offers runners a variety of race experiences for all levels, from Padawans to Jedi Masters – kids races, a 5K, a 10K and a half marathon. And for those who show an event greater strength for the Force, there will be a two-race challenge involving the 10K and the half marathon with a commemorative medal awaiting every finisher.

In addition, there will be a slew of family-friendly events throughout the weekend, including a Health and Fitness Expo and a Star Wars-themed pre-race party, plus popular Star Wars and Disney characters and other entertainment. Registration opens June 10 at www.runDisney.com.

httpv://youtu.be/_hzOfY3hGtw

The Star Wars event at Disneyland Resort joins the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend, the recently announced Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend and the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend.

“This melding of the iconic Star Wars franchise and the runDisney brand creates an ideal race experience that will resonate with core running groups as well as attract new runners to the sport,’’ said Maribeth Bisienere, senior vice president of Disney Sports Enterprises. “We will continue to identify opportunities to collaborate with other Disney franchises and partners to develop more unique runDisney race weekends that will appeal to an increasingly wider range of runners across the country and beyond.’’

“This is an ideal intersection of family, fitness and Star Wars fun for our global, cross-generational audience and runDisney fans’’ said Howard Roffman, executive vice president of Franchise Management at Lucasfilm. “Star Wars is all about reaching deep within to realize your true potential and runDisney embodies that message in a very real way.”

As presenting sponsor of the race weekend, Sierra Nevada Corporation will have a presence throughout the event. Sierra Nevada Corporation, based in Sparks, Nevada, provides rapid, innovative and agile technology solutions and is best known for its Dream Chaser spacecraft, the company’s solution for providing the United States with human spaceflight capability.

“With the passion and creativity of runDisney and Lucasfilm, this race weekend is going to be out of this world, which makes it a natural fit for Sierra Nevada Corporation because we are in a race of our own to take humans into space with our Dream Chaser spacecraft program,’’ said Sierra Nevada Corporation president and chairman Eren Ozmen.

Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend

As with other new runDisney events, the inaugural Star Wars event sponsored by Sierra Nevada Corporation is expected to be an instant hit. The new Avengers race at Disneyland Resort sold out in less than two hours. In general, runDisney race weekends have regularly sold out in record time, and last year attracted more than 163,900 runners to Walt Disney World and Disneyland – a 40 percent increase over the previous year, making the runDisney series one of the largest in the nation.

The surging popularity of runDisney events has created significant economic impact on the surrounding communities. For example, in Anaheim it’s estimated that the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend drives approximately $20 million to $30million in additional economic activity locally by attracting thousands of runners to Southern California. In suburban Orlando, the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, which is considered to be the largest race weekend in the country, attracts more than 50,000 runners and 50,000-plus spectators, for a total attendance of more than 100,000 in Central Florida.
