Orlando City SC Wins

Third USL PRO Regular Season Title,

Secures Home Field Advantage for Playoffs

Lions battle Wilmington to 0-0 draw, winning second consecutive Commissioner’s Cup

In its final season as members of USL PRO, Orlando City SC (18-4-5, 59 points) claimed a third Regular Season Championship on Wednesday night after drawing the Wilmington Hammerheads (8-7-11, 35 points) 0-0 at Legion Stadium.

Heading into the match, the league-leaders needed a single point to clinch a first place berth in the league standings and home field advantage for the playoffs.

After the game, Head Coach Adrian Heath commented on Orlando’s title win saying, “I’m absolutely delighted, for not just the players, but also for the front office and everyone associated with the Club. It’s been a monumental season, and despite everything going on in the background this year, the players remained focused to win the title seven points clear with one game remaining. It speaks volumes for everyone associated with the organization.”

Wilmington provided the first chance of the match in the 11th minute when a long ball over the Lions’ defense found Cody Arnoux, who managed to create space and hit an effort from inside the area. But Lions’ Goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski was in perfect position to make the save.  Woszczynski would go on to register his second consecutive scoreless match for the Lions.

Orlando quickly responded with a quality strike on target in the 15th minute of play when Midfielder Adama Mbengue connected well with Kevin Molino’s ball into the box. Shortly afterward, Mbengue was once again involved in another dangerous attacking play for City, forcing Stuver to make a difficult save after cutting inside past two defenders.

As the half progressed, Orlando’s timely attacks continued when Kevin Molino produced his first chance of the night toward the end of the first 45. In the 37th minute, Molino skillfully controlled Quinn’s pass with his chest to evade a defender before firing a shot that skipped just past the near-post.

After a defensive and scoreless first half, Orlando opened the second period with two early chances in the 48th minute.

Mbengue’s dangerous shot at the Hammerheads’ goal earned a corner for the Lions, leading to a cross into the box from Burke that found Quinn on the back-post. His volley was rifled directly at Stuver.

The Hammerheads came close to countering in the 55th minute, however, when Mark-Anthony Kaye ventured into the box, pulling his strike inches past the post.

Midway through the second half, Mbengue shot a powerful blast at Wilmington’s goal that caused difficulties for Stuver. Following Mbengue’s chance, Brian Span, who came on as substitute in the 61st minute, turned deep inside the box and hit another strike at Stuver, whose crucial point-blank save kept the score-line level.

Stuver continued to come up big for the Hammerheads in the final moments of the match, denying a curling strike from Dennis Chin who did well to create space inside the area. As the game approached the final whistle, Orlando focused on time management, keeping possession to preserve the 0-0 draw and secure the 2014 Commissioner’s Cup.

NEXT MATCH: Orlando City SC returns to ESPN Wide World of Sports for its final regular season match on September 6. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

Walt Disney Animation Studios News!

Walt Disney Animation Studios Logo

Last night during The Story of Frozen: Making a Disney Animated Classic, Walt Disney Animation Studios shared two really exciting pieces of movie news!

The first thing that we were able to see was world television debut of a two-minute scene from Big Hero 6, opening in theaters November 7, 2014.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEeBXUUOBiI&feature=youtu.be

From Walt Disney Animation Studios, the team behind “Frozen” and “Wreck-It Ralph,” comes “Big Hero 6,” an action-packed comedy-adventure about the special bond that develops between Baymax (voice of Scott Adsit), a plus-sized inflatable robot, and prodigy Hiro Hamada (voice of Ryan Potter). When a devastating event befalls the city of San Fransokyo and catapults Hiro into the midst of danger, he turns to Baymax and his close friends adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago (voice of Jamie Chung), neatnik Wasabi (voice of Damon Wayans Jr.), chemistry whiz Honey Lemon (voice of Genesis Rodriguez) and fanboy Fred (voice of T.J. Miller). Determined to uncover the mystery, Hiro transforms his friends into a band of high-tech heroes called “Big Hero 6.”

Walt Disney Animation Studios Big Hero 6 Poster

Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring breathtaking action with all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, “Big Hero 6” is directed by Don Hall (“Winnie the Pooh”) and Chris Williams (“Bolt”), and produced by Roy Conli (“Tangled”). The film hits theaters in 3D on Nov. 7, 2014.

Princess Half Marathon Walt Disney Animation Studios

The second piece of news from Walt Disney Animation Studios was the news that a new animated short called “Frozen Fever.”

Debuting in the spring of 2015, “Frozen Fever” will welcome back Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and, of course, the one-and-only Olaf to the big screen.

In “Frozen Fever,” it’s Anna’s birthday and Elsa and Kristoff are determined to give her the best celebration ever, but Elsa’s icy powers may put more than just the party at risk.

Directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, and produced by Peter Del Vecho, with an all-new original song by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, “Frozen Fever” marks the first project reuniting the Oscar®-winning original team from Disney’s “Frozen.”

My family really enjoyed watching The Story of Frozen: Making a Disney Animated Classic, and I can only hope that they make more specials like this! The Walt Disney Animation Studios announcements were definitely a pretty awesome bonus!!!

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day Back To School Fun

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day arrives in Theaters on October 10th, and to celebrate Back to School I thought that I would share some new and fun images and quotes from the movie!

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Disney’s Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day follows the exploits of 11-year-old Alexander (Ed Oxenbould) as he experiences the most terrible and horrible day of his young life—a day that begins with gum stuck in his hair, followed by one calamity after another. But when Alexander tells his upbeat family about the misadventures of his disastrous day, he finds little sympathy and begins to wonder if bad things only happen to him. He soon learns that he’s not alone when his mom (Jennifer Garner), dad (Steve Carell), brother (Dylan Minnette) and sister (Kerris Dorsey) all find themselves living through their own terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.

httpv://youtu.be/NLnRT67HO0U

Anyone who says there is no such thing as a bad day just hasn’t had one. “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,” directed by Independent Spirit Award-winner Miguel Arteta (“The Good Girl,” “Cedar Rapids,” “Youth in Revolt”) from a screenplay by Rob Lieber, is a 21 Laps Entertainment/Jim Henson Company production. The film hits theaters nationwide October 10, 2014.

Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining Month

Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining Month celebrates Orlando’s diverse and amazing culinary scene.

Throughout September, select Orlando restaurants will be offering prix fixe dinners for just $33 to benefit The Foundation of Foster Children.

Proceeds from the event will help the Foundation for Foster Children to support the 1400 ethnically diverse foster children who reside in Central Florida’s tri-county area. With new opportunities, local foster youth discover hidden talents, boost their self-esteem, improve their grades, and begin to uncover their individual potential.

Magical Dining Month Foundation for Foster Children Logo

The Foundation for Foster Children is an important asset to Central Florida as it strengthens our community by providing direct support to foster children and foster families in Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties. Since 2008, the Foundation has provided funding and in-kind support for the unmet needs of foster youth through several programs, including supporting their immediate needs when they first enter foster care. With an emphasis on education, over half of all funding supports educational needs of foster children through in-home tutoring and other services. Through the Fostering Success grant program, “typical childhood experiences” are provided to our local foster children that otherwise would be unavailable, such as athletics, art, music, dance and other opportunities. Another important focus of the Foundation is on youth who are transitioning to adulthood, youth ages 17-23 who are provided with direct support and volunteer mentors.

There are so many great restaurants participating in Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining Month!

Pick Six: Last Minute Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Tips

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party 2014 Brochure Front

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party kicks off the Halloween Celebrations at the Magic Kingdom tonight, and if you are anything like me you are caught totally off guard!!!

How can it be time for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party to start already? I thought summer just started…

With new offerings and so much to do to get ready, I thought I would share some last minute tips for getting ready for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party

Pick Six: Last Minute Tips For Attending

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

1. Study up on new offerings

This year Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party has a few new offerings, and I have to say that I am pretty stoked!

Guests who want to meet some of their favorite Disney villains will now be able to find them at locations around the park. Jafar will be in Adventureland, The Queen of Hearts near Mad Tea Party in Fantasyland, and Lotso will be hanging out near Buzz Lightyear in Tomorrowland.

Club Villain will be taking over The Diamond Horseshoe in Liberty Square with a wicked atmosphere, lively music, glowing décor, and appearances by Cruella De Vil, Dr. Facilier, Anastasia, Drizella, Lady Tremaine, and more!

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party

This year Mickey’s “Boo-to-You” Halloween Parade will be receiving a few tweaks including the expansion of the Phineas and Ferb Creepa Crew pre-parade interactive experience to involve more of the parade route and the first-ever appearance of Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope in the parade.

2. Prioritize for your family

Is your family at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party to ride attractions, just a friendly reminder that the FastPass+ system will not be available during the party, to explore the trick-or-treat trails, or do you want to see all the entertainment options that you can?

The important thing to do is make sure that you are all on the same page and get as much done as you can!

And remember that while the party and the exclusive events don’t officially start until 7:00 pm, you can arrive at 4:00 pm to knock a few things off your list that will still be open at the Magic Kingdom.

Some unexpected things that my family likes to do during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party are riding the Jungle Cruise at Night, taking a trip to the Big Thunder Mountain Rail Road for the fun lighting effects, and we like to spend extra time taking pictures of attractions with the unique party lighting.

Here are highlights from our time at last year’s Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party!

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6l2WlLMum8

3. Download the new Mayhem at the Mansion App

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party Mayhem at the Mansion Logo

This year Walt Disney World is taking Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party to the next level with an augmented reality game called ‘Mayhem at the Mansion’.

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party

Stitch Kingdom shared a lot of information about the game, but using the Mickey’s Not So Scary map with the Mayhem at the Mansion app you will travel around the park to capture ghosts that have escaped from the Haunted Mansion. Once you capture your ghost, you can save and share your finds before returning them to the Haunted Mansion.

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party

The directions are super simple!

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party Mayhem at the Mansion Instructions

The app is free and information about the Mayhem at the Mansion app can be found on their site here.

4. To merch or not to merch

Every year I find myself having the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Exclusive Merchandise conversation with myself…

Th number one item on my list this year is the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Exclusive Magic Band that WDWNT reported on earlier.

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party MagicBand 2014
Photo: WDWNT (www.wdwnt.com)

My best tip for purchasing merchandise is to buy what you want early!!! Items can sell out or may not be available at all the merchandise locations, do don’t chance it or spend your time worrying!!!

5. Costumes

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is always tricky when it comes to costumes for our family, because the weather is typically hot and most costumes are made for cooler climates.

We are planning to combat this by trying our hand at DisneyBounding as a Family.

Leslie Kay shared some great tips on Disney Style a few months ago.

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party Top 10 DisneyBound Tips

She even showed how she breaks down a character’s look for DisneyBounding!

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party DisneyBounding Breakdown

I’m not spilling the beans about what we’ll be dressing up as this year…you’ll just have to wait!

6. What to make sure to bring with you to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

We always like to travel light to the party, however for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party we always carry a backpack!

Some things that we like to carry with us to the party are:

  • Large Ziplock Bags – For extra treat storage and for our electronics in case it rains
  • A Change of Clothes for Zoe – She gets antsy in her costume every year, and having this change of clothes has been a life saver
  • Savory Snacks – Since the party begins at 7 we like to eat an early dinner before we arrive at the Magic Kingdom, so as the night starts to go on we find ourselves needing a snack that isn’t so packed full of sugar. I like to bring packets of peanuts and cheese crackers.
  • Glow Sticks – We try not to fall victim to the light-up carts, so before the party I will run to the Dollar Tree to purchase some fun glow sticks and light up toys. I cannot tell you how much money this has saved us over the years.
  • Envelope – I like to bring an envelope to keep my Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom card a little safer.

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party Prices

Here are a few more things to know before you go to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party:

  • Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party requires a separate ticket for admission.
  • Tickets are available while supplies last and are not valid for theme park admission prior to the hours of the event.
  • Each Guest may only purchase 8 tickets per event date.
  • Tickets are nonrefundable and may not be sold or transferred for commercial use.
  • Guests of all ages may wear costumes only to the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party event; otherwise, costumes are only permitted at Magic Kingdom park for Guests ages 9 and under.
  • All costumes must adhere to any guidelines as determined solely by Disney.
  • Please choose costumes that are not obstructive, offensive or violent.
  • Guests’ eyes must be visible at all times.
  • Event information and activities are subject to restrictions and change without notice.

We are all really excited to attend Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, and I can’t wait to share tons of pictures and information soon!

Orlando City SC Lions Prove Ferocious at Home Once Again, Defeat Dayton Dutch Lions 7-0 in Centennial USL PRO Match

Molino extends USL PRO goal scoring record with hat-trick

Orlando City SC (18-4-4, 58 points) celebrated its 100th USL PRO match with a convincing 7-0 victory over the Dayton Dutch Lions (6-17-4, 22 points) at ESPN Wide World of Sports (WWOS) on Saturday night.  The victory moved the Lions a step closer in their pursuit of the coveted Commissioner’s Cup.

Midfielder Kevin Molino continued his excellent attacking form during the win, scoring his second hat-trick of the season while providing two assists. The midfielder’s 2014 goal tally now stands at 19.

Commenting on the 7-0, Head Coach Adrian Heath said, “I’m pleased for the boys because the past few weeks haven’t been easy. It’s nice to get a result like that, moving six points ahead with two games to go. We’ve given ourselves a really good opportunity. I’ve said in the past that we’ve left a lot of goals on the table, but today we went after it.”

Orlando went on the attack early on in the game, putting Dayton Goalkeeper Matt Williams under immense pressure. After hitting the post and forcing Williams to make several saves, the Lions opened the scoring in the 6th minute of play when Molino calmly curled Giuseppe Gentile’s pass into the back of the net.

Orlando City SC
Photo: Orlando City SC

Gentile and Molino proved to be a dangerous tandem all night, breaking down the Dutch Lions’ defense on several occasions. As a result, Gentile scored his second goal in Purple and White in the 38th minute after pouncing on a rebound originally struck by Molino.

Two minutes later, Gentile was once again involved in an Orlando City goal, creating a prime scoring opportunity for Molino. The striker latched onto Molino’s pass and hit a shot that was saved by Williams, but the goalkeeper’s deflection landed in Molino’s path setting up a comfortable finish for his 18th goal of the season.

City opened the second half with the same relentless attack from the first 45, scoring in the opening four minutes from Darwin Cerén’s cross in the box. Cerén’s service found Molino for a clear look at goal, but the Trinidadian unselfishly opted to knock it wide to da Luz whose powerful volley found the back of the net.

Orlando City SC

The onslaught continued in the 57th minute when Molino bagged his second hat-trick of the season. The Trinidadian pounced on another save from Williams on Gentile’s strike, slotting home his third goal of the night.

Three minutes later Molino continued to cause problems for the Dutch Lions’ defense, playing a crafty through-ball to Mbengue who went one-on-one with the ‘keeper.

The Senegalese midfielder took his chance well and carefully placed the ball into the back of the net to give the Lions an astonishing 6-0 advantage with 30 minutes left to play.

Shortly afterward Rafael Ramos created the ultimate finish for Orlando, whipping a precise ball into the box for da Luz, who nodded home a strong header for his second goal of the match.

NEXT MATCH: The Lions are set to take on the Wilmington Hammerheads on September 3. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Legion Stadium.

Director Patrick Osborne, who joined Walt Disney Animation Studios in 2008 as an animator on “Bolt,” took part in the Studio’s Spark program—which invites artists to explore their own unique ideas in a month-long project that is presented to the Studio team. His experimental short “Pet” was a hit among his fellow Disney artists. Osborne, whose credits Disney’s 2010 feature “Tangled” and 2012’s Oscar®-winning short “Paperman,” for which he served as head of animation, was later tapped as co-head of animation for the upcoming feature “Big Hero 6.”  But his plans changed when he pitched the idea for “Feast” as part of WDAS’ new shorts program—the project was greenlit with Osborne as director.

Producer Kristina Reed produced 2012’s Oscar®-winning short “Paperman.”

If we are being totally honest, I have started to look forward to the shorts just as much as the main feature!!!

To Halloween Horror Nights

at the Universal Orlando Resort

Halloween at Halloween Horror Nights Universal Orlando Resort 2014

For the first time ever, John Carpenter’s horror classic comes to life

as a haunted house at Universal Orlando

Everyone is entitled to one good scare…and beginning September 19, Universal Orlando will give guests more than one reason to scream as it brings to life John Carpenter’s classic horror film “Halloween.”

Based on the classic 1978 slasher film, the all-new haunted house follows the story of Michael Myers, a deranged boy from Haddonfield, Il. It is Halloween night and no one is safe as the psychotic killer embarks on a murderous rampage. With his iconic mask to hide his identity, Michael sets out for new blood and will stop at nothing as he stalks his victims. Every scene tells the tale of a different kill and if you’re not careful, you could be next.

Halloween is one of the most successful horror franchises of all time and has grossed a collected $366 million worldwide. Since the original “Halloween” film, nine additional Halloween sequels have been created. This year, the franchise will commemorate its worldwide success with the release of a box set with all ten Michael Myers films in full blu-ray on Sept. 23, featuring never-before-seen and behind the scenes content.

“My experience watching this film growing up is as vivid now as it was years ago. The team and I are beyond thrilled to bring one of the most iconic horror films and characters to life at Halloween Horror Nights.” said Michael Aiello, Director of Entertainment – Creative Development, Universal Orlando Resort. “Halloween, began what would become the slasher film genre and still represents the genre as its horrific crown jewel. Guests will come face to face with Michael Myers as we recreate the kills committed on the night He came home.”

“Halloween” completes this year’s lineup for Halloween Horror Nights 24, which will include some of the most recognizable and terrifying names in pop culture, as well as original content from the masterminds who bring the event to life. In addition to “Halloween,” Halloween Horror Nights will include experiences inspired by AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” Robert Rodriguez’s chilling television series “From Dusk Till Dawn,” the cult sci-fi franchise “AVP: Alien vs. Predator,” Universal Picture’s upcoming film “Dracula: Untold,” Universal Picture’s “The Purge: Anarchy,” and SyFy’s “Face Off – In the Flesh.”
