If Disney Pin Trading is a part of your visit to the Walt Disney World Resort, you won’t want to miss the One Family – 2022 Pin Celebration this August at EPCOT.

“Whether it is Family that you are born into or one that you make yourself – Family is the most magical story of all. The journey from Neverland to Arendelle, from any one of the multi-verses to a bioluminescent world, from a galaxy far, far away to infinity and beyond, with an eclectic, quirky, heartfelt collection of pins that inspires us to laugh, share, and connect as ONE Family.”

Broadway in Orlando 2022/2023 Season Overview

The Dr. Phillips Center for Performing Arts announced its Broadway in Orlando 2022/2023 Season last month, and to prepare for the upcoming subscription sales I thought it would be fun to take a closer look at the eight new (and two returning) shows coming to the Walt Disney Theater.

Pretty Woman: The Musical

Pretty Woman: The Musical, based on one of Hollywood’s most beloved romantic stories of all time, springs to life with a powerhouse creative team led by two-time Tony Award®-winning director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell (Hairspray, Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde).

To Kill a Mockingbird

All rise for Academy Award® winner Aaron Sorkin’s adaptation of Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning masterwork. The New York Times Critic’s Pick To Kill a Mockingbird is “the most successful American play in Broadway history.” (60 Minutes). New York Magazine calls it “a real phenomenon. Majestic and incandescent, it’s filled with breath and nuance and soul.” With direction by Tony Award® winner Bartlett Sher, To Kill a Mockingbird – “the greatest novel of all time” (Chicago Tribune) – has quickly become “one of the greatest plays in history” (NPR). Emmy Award®-winning actor Richard Thomas will play the role of Atticus Finch in the National Tour.

Dr. Phillips Center for the Arts Broadway in Orlando

Chicago

After 25 years, Chicago is still the one musical with everything that makes Broadway shimmy-shake: a universal tale of fame, fortune and all that jazz, with one show stopping song after another and the most astonishing dancing you’ve ever seen. No wonder Chicago has been honored with 6 Tony Awards®, 2 Olivier Awards, a Grammy® and thousands of standing ovations. As we celebrate our 25th anniversary – you’ve got to come see why the name on everyone’s lips is still…Chicago.

Dr. Phillips Center for the Arts Broadway in Orlando
My Fair Lady

My Fair Lady

From Lincoln Center Theater that brought you The King & I and South Pacific, comes a “sumptuous new production of the most perfect musical of all time” (Entertainment Weekly), Lerner & Loewe’s My Fair Lady. Director Bartlett Sher’s glowing production is “thrilling, glorious and better than it ever was” (New York Times). “Every so often a revival comes along that reminds you how indispensable great theater can be” (NY1).

Boasting such classic songs as “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “The Rain in Spain,” “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” and “On the Street Where You Live,” My Fair Lady tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a young Cockney flower seller, and Henry Higgins, a linguistics professor who is determined to transform her into his idea of a “proper lady.” But who is really being transformed?

Dr. Phillips Center for the Arts Broadway in Orlando

Beetlejuice

He earned his stripes on Broadway… now the ghost-with-the-most is coming to Orlando.

It’s showtime! Based on Tim Burton’s dearly beloved film, this hilarious musical tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager whose whole life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and demon with a thing for stripes. With an irreverent book, an astonishing set and a score that’s out of this Netherworld, Beetlejuice is “screamingly good fun!” (Variety). And under its uproarious surface (six feet under, to be exact), it’s a remarkably touching show about family, love and making the most of every Day-O!

Broadway in Orlando subscribers must renew by Friday, April 15. New subscriptions will go on sale later this Spring, anyone interested can join the waitlist at BroadwayInOrlando.com to be among the first in line for new subscriptions.

  • Academy Award® nominee Glenn Close reprises her role from “Guardians of the Galaxy” as Nova Prime, the leader of Xandar and commander of the Nova Corps.
  • Disney Imagineers were recently on-set for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” to film with the Guardians for this new attraction.
  • A Starblaster will stand outside the Wonders of Xandar building, the first full-size version of this Xandarian ship ever built.

Located in EPCOT’s newly renamed World Discovery neighborhood, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will rock the park and I can’t wait to share more details soon.

Celebrate #407Day to Support Local Businesses

#407Day 2022

Orange County Government, The City of Orlando, and Visit Orlando have announced the return of #407Day this Thursday, April 7, 2022, for residents to celebrate their hometown pride and support local area businesses.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our community, and when we come together to support each  other, we all thrive,” said Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings. “We must continue to celebrate the  local businesses that make our region a special place to live. I encourage all residents to join me on April  7 and visit your favorite local business or restaurant. Together, we can make a difference by supporting  our neighbors.”

This special campaign, inspired by the destination’s longtime area code, encourages residents to support  their favorite restaurants, bars, shops, boutiques, services and other locally owned businesses by sharing  posts and photos on their social media channels using the hashtag #407Day.

“I am proud to be a resident of our vibrant, inclusive community and always enjoy sharing what I love  about Orlando. #407Day gives us all the opportunity to showcase our hometown pride and the small  businesses that make our community such a special place,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer.

All three entities have partnered with leading local food blog Tasty Chomps for a #407Day social media giveaway.

Residents will have the chance to win prizes from local businesses and organizations by sharing their posts and photos on April 7, marked with the #407Day hashtag, via Facebook, Twitter, and  Instagram.

Lucky winners will be awarded giveaways from attractions such as Wild Florida and WonderWorks  Orlando, local nonprofit organizations Orlando Ballet and the Downtown Development Board, and restaurants such as AVA MediterrAegean, Taverna Opa, Tapa Toro Tapas Bar & Paella Pit, Orlando Cat  Café, deep blu Seafood Grille, and The Glass Knife.

#407Day Prizes include:

  • AVA MediterrAegean (chef’s table dinner for two and sommelier-selected wine bottle)
  • deep blu Seafood Grille (dinner for two)
  • Downtown Development Board (“407” t-shirts)
  • Orlando Ballet (two tickets to “The Great Gatsby”)
  • Orlando Cat Cafe (two passes to the Kitty Play area)
  • Tapa Toro Tapas & Paella Pit ($25 gift cards)
  • Taverna Opa Orlando ($25 gift cards)
  • The Glass Knife ($100 gift card) • Wild Florida (two passes to the Drive-Thru Safari and Giraffe Feeding experience) • WonderWorks Orlando (Tickets for a family four-pack)

“As Orlando residents we are lucky to live in a destination that tops the vacation bucket list for millions of  visitors from around the world,” said Visit Orlando President & CEO Casandra Matej. “Part of what makes  our destination so special is the range of local businesses, and we encourage everyone to go out on  #407Day to share recommendations and show support for their favorites.”
