A Trip to the Winter Garden Honey Farm

Did you know that Winter Garden has a self-serve honey farm? I had heard about it, but I hadn’t had a chance to go take a look yet, so I ventured out to find it as I love supporting local businesses!

The farm is located at 9816 Tower Pine Drive, Winter Garden and they are open everyday 6am-9pm (although the website states 7am-7pm so make sure to check). It is completely self serve so make sure you bring cash or check as they are the only forms accepted here and it features a locked box for payment.

They have 24 hour video surveillance and request no one under 18 enters without an adult.

They advertise the finest local honey, their raw honey is 100% pure, with nothing added or subtracted, no high-heat or force-filtering techniques are used with their honey.

Inside, you will find Orange Blossom Honey, Palmetto Honey and Brazilian Pepper Honey in a variety of sizes in bottles and jars. All the pricing is on their website, and posted inside the stand.

You can see some older historic photos from this local family business posted inside. Bob started keeping bees back in 1968 at the age of 8. At age 15 he started his first Honey Company in Windermere, Florida in 1975. He moved around after this to finally settle back in Florida in Winter Garden, where he launched Winter Garden Honey Farm with his family.

They also sell Beeswax candles and honey sticks in various sizes and packaging. They also have an Observation Beehive inside, they had it cleaned last summer and not had chance to put the bees back in, but they hope to get it back up and running this summer. I would love to see that! It has 27 large frames, three frames across at 9 levels. It is this large because typically observation beehives are only a single frame width, which usually means the bees can not store enough food to survive or get over crowded and they swarm out.

As you can see from the shelves, some of their stock is low. According to their website, Orange Blossom Honey will only be sold in 2lb, 1lb, 8oz and 2oz as it is almost sold out until mid-April. Palmetto Honey is also running low, they only have what is on their shelves right now and this will return to shelves mid-June. They still have 8oz and 2oz for this one.

Don’t forget, the stand is open everyday 6am-9pm (website does state 7am-7pm) and it is cash or check only, they do have a collection of pens to write them out, along with some hand sanitizer for afterwards.

You can check out their website http://wghoney.com and if you have any questions you can call Bob himself on 407-454-0866.

You can also check out their Facebook page where they update daily and have some fun content!

Paws in the Park supports the mission of Pet Alliance to educate, shelter, place and heal pets and their families with compassionate, responsible care, and funds raised from the beloved event help Pet Alliance save over 5,200 dogs and cats this year by providing shelter, care and love until they find their forever home.

Riptide Race, new for 2021, is an adrenaline-pumping waterslide race that pits teams against each other in a splash to the finish line.

Racers start atop a 68-foot tower, where they will grab a two-person raft before racing along the 650-foot slide—with low walls, so they can keep an eye on their opponents.

It’s a dash to the splash as guests compete in this side-by-side raft run through high-speed tunnels, twists, and turns. Riptide Race features a height requirement of 42 inches to appeal to families with children.

Guests of all ages will delight in challenging their friends and family members to see which team feels the rush of victory.

“We are thrilled to introduce Riptide Race, an experience you won’t find anywhere else in Florida. Aquatica is the first waterpark in the state to have a dueling racer and we know our guests are going to love the fun of challenging their friends and family in a race to the finish,” said Kyle Miller, Park President. “Riptide Race is the perfect addition to our attraction portfolio, complementing what is already one of the most family-friendly waterslide lineups in Orlando. Health and safety continue to be a top priority for our parks, and we can’t wait to see our guests enjoy this new ride.”

Speeding through each turn in a down-to-the-wire finish, this fast-paced, high-speed adventure is one that guests will want to experience again and again!

In addition to Riptide Race, guests will have the chance to refuel between races at two NEW dining experiences at Aquatica.

Step out after a thrilling ride on Riptide Race and unwind at Ke-Re’s Bar, a brand-new dining experience for 2021 (with physical distancing measures).

Guests can relax on island time at this open-air bar. Soak in the sun, enjoy unbeatable views of the park, or catch a game on the flat screen.

Refreshing, handcrafted cocktails include:

  • Pineapple Plunge: Malibu Coconut Rum and Pineapple with a twist of Amaretto and Butterscotch
  • Orlando Vice: A flavorful fusion of two island classics—Pina Colada and Strawberry Daiquiri
  • Ke-Re’s Riptide Margarita: Milagro Tequila, mixed with lemonade and the perfect balance of cranberry, strawberry, and lime

Guests can also discover bold new flavors at Papa’s Cantina, opening soon at Aquatica Orlando.

With a menu fit for a Riptide Race champion, Papa’s Cantina offers guests a vibrant, one-of-a-kind dining experience with limited capacity.

New and exclusive to Aquatica Orlando, the menu features crave-able bites and fresh flights, including:

  • Signature Empanadas with a wide variety of savory and sweet fillings. Try the fresh and flavor-packed buffalo chicken, the classic beef and cheese, or the light and airy spinach artichoke empanadas.  Save room for dessert and indulge in the perfectly sweet hazelnut empanada.
  • Boneless Wings seasoned, and hand-tossed to perfection in Papa’s signature sauces. Take the heat, zest it up, or amplify the flavor with Papa’s Secret Sauce.
  • Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic Refreshers, featuring Barrilitos Aguas Frescas. Come try refreshing flavors like Watermelon, Strawberry Hibiscus and Mango Lime.
  • Papa’s Special, the ultimate combination of flavor with 4 empanadas, 12 boneless wings, and your choice of 3 signature dipping sauces.

7 Reasons to #SpringItOn at the Gaylord Palms

Disclosure: I was invited to experience the Once Upon a Spring fun at the Gaylord Palms Resort, however, all opinions and exclamation points are all my own!!!

Until May 16th the Gaylord Palms Resort is inviting guests to Spring It On with extra fun during their Once Upon A Spring celebration, and we were really excited to be invited out to check out the family-friendly events and activities.

Spring it on Gaylord Palms Easter 2021

7 Reasons to #SpringItOn at the Gaylord Palms

1. Blossomin’ Bunnies Scavenger Hunt
Spring it on Gaylord Palms Easter 2021

Scavenger Hunts have become a staple of the special events at the Gaylord Palms resort, and the Blossomin’ Bunnies Scavenger Hunt is my new favorite!

With kid-friendly clues and super cute bunnies to find, the Blossomin’ Bunnies Scavenger hunt takes you throughout the 4.5 acres of indoor gardens for a basketful of fun.

2. Springtime Light Display
Spring it on Gaylord Palms Easter 2021

When the sun goes down, the St. Augustine Atrium lights up with images of blooming flowers, bunny rabbits scurrying, shooting stars, and a spring-colored kaleidoscope.

What I love about the Springtime Light Display is that they bring an extra touch of magic to the resort.

3. Paint Me a Fairytale Show
Spring it on Gaylord Palms Easter 2021

Inside the Castillo De San Marcos, the interactive show Paint Me A Fairytale takes guests on an adventure as Mother Goose uses her magic paintbrush to bring the pages of storybook favorites to life, including Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and The Princess and The Pea.

As a special keepsake, guests will take home a custom watercolor paint set and coloring book featuring characters from the show.

Spring it on Gaylord Palms Easter 2021

The Paint Me A Fairytale show is a really fun way for little ones to experience their bedtime stories!

To allow for social distancing, capacity will be limited, and advance online reservations are required.

4. Resort-Wide Spring Activities

During the Once Upon a Spring fun there is no shortage of activities to participate in around the resort!

Some of our favorites during our stay were the cookie decorating, the animal encounters, the animal encounters with Wild Florida, and of course the Springtime Pool Party!!!

5. Art Bar

Adjacent to the Paint Me A Fairytale in the Castillo de San Marcos is the Art Bar where you can choose from a variety of themed adult and kid-friendly beverages.

The Art Bar is a lot of fun because the drinks are unique and there is a resident ‘Artist-in-residence’ that keeps things lively!

6. Crystal River Rapids

GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Gaylord Palms is home to an AWESOME new not-so-lazy river called Crystal River Rapids that is such a great addition to the Crystal Springs Water Park!

Gaylord Palms Crystal River Rapids Once Upon a Spring Easter 2021

Inspired by spring-fed Florida rivers, Crystal River Rapids takes guests on an exhilarating ride as they twist and turn through speeding currents at three-and-a-half feet per second. As guests race past roaring waterfalls, crumbling limestone walls, and larger-than-life sprinkling leaves, they will encounter thrilling water activations that will immerse them in the nature of Florida. With a state-of-the-art sound system, heated water for year-round enjoyment, and alcoves that allow guests to stop and take in the stunning views of Cypress Springs Water Park, this new action river adventure will allow for endless family-fun.

While I probably did about 30 laps around the Crystal River Rapids, I have to say that it was just as nice to sit in the alcoves and wait for Zoe to zoom by.

7. Commitment to Clean

When the Gaylord Palms Resort reopened in summer 2020, it debuted a variety of protocols and elevated practices in line with their high standards of cleanliness and excellent service that their STARs take VERY seriously.

I am BEYOND excited to say that the Gaylord Palm has sustained their high levels of cleanliness since our stay in July!

Spring Break 2021 Tips

Obie and Ashley Spring Break 2021 Tips
You can hear me every week on the Obie & Ashley UNFILTERED podcast!

Spring Break is almost here, and it is going to be an incredibly busy season for the theme parks of Central Florida.

To help you navigate the parks, here are a few Spring Break tips by park!

Spring Break 2021 Tips

Walt Disney World
Spring Break 2021 Tips Walt Disney World Park Pass Calendar
  • The Walt Disney World theme parks are all sold out for Resort and ticket holders, but some Annual Passholder availability has flickered in and out so be sure to check the Park Pass Reservation page often.
  • If you do have a ticket and are looking to park hop after 2pm, keep this number handy (407) 560-5000! This number will inform you if a park is at capacity and not accepting park hoppers.
  • Please do yourself a favor and don’t show up to ‘talk your way in’. The capacity is what it is, and if you do not have a reservation you will be turned away.
  • Disney Springs will also be EXTREMELY busy!!!! Also be aware that if you have a dining reservation, you are not guaranteed entry into Disney Springs.
Universal Orlando Resort
Universal Orlando Resort Spring Break 2021 Launches Limited-Time Offer for US Residents
  • The Universal Orlando Resort does not take reservations for Universal Studios Florida or Universal Islands of Adventure, so these parks will absolutely cap out with capacity early in the day due to the amazing ticket and hotel deals they have right now.
  • The Universal Social Media Team is GREAT at posting about park hours, tips, and when the parks reach capacity & are letting guests in again. So make sure you follow @universalorl on Twitter
  • If you do get into the parks, bring a lot of patience!!! The lines will be long, so make sure to be kind & social distance.
SeaWorld Orlando
SeaWorld Orlando Reservation Spring Break 2021 Tips
  • All guests with existing tickets, Fun Cards, or Annual Passes must make a reservation using this system in advance in order to manage park capacity and maintain physical distancing
  • Again, these parks will be SUPER busy so bring your patience and be prepared for those long lines.
