Win Tickets To See An Advanced Screening of Minions

MINIONS Movie Giveaway Header

Minions. Have you ever wondered where they came from? This Summer, go back to where it all began. From the creators of Despicable Me, Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, Allison Janey, and Steve Coogan star in Minions. In Theaters and Real 3-D July 10th. Rated PG.

httpv://youtu.be/Wfql_DoHRKc

The story of Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s Minions begins at the dawn of time.  Starting as single-celled yellow organisms, Minions evolve through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters.  Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters—from T. rex to Napoleon—the Minions find themselves without someone to serve and fall into a deep depression.

But one Minion named Kevin has a plan, and he—alongside teenage rebel Stuart and lovable little Bob—ventures out into the world to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow.

The trio embarks upon a thrilling journey that ultimately leads them to their next potential master, Scarlet Overkill (Academy Award® winner Sandra Bullock), the world’s first-ever female super-villain.  They travel from frigid Antarctica to 1960s New York City, ending in mod London, where they must face their biggest challenge to date: saving all of Minionkind…from annihilation.

Featuring a soundtrack of hit music from the ’60s that still permeates our culture today, Minions is produced by Illumination’s Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy, and is directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda.  Brian Lynch has written the screenplay for the 3D-CG comedy adventure, and Chris Renaud serves as executive producer of the film.

Frozen Summer Fun Has Arrived At Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Frozen Summer Fun 2015 Disney's Hollywood Studios Walt Disney World

There’s a chill in the air at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, because until September 7, 2015 the park is playing host to “Frozen” Summer Fun.

This year’s “Frozen” Summer Fun Celebration has some great new additions that include an enhanced parade, a super-cute Olaf stage show, the opportunity to catch ‘Frozen Fever’, fun Photopass settings, an improved Hyperion Theater, DJ Chill on the 1’s and 2’s, and a fireworks finale that is truly spectacular.

The Frozen Summer Fun LIVE! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios line-up is full of fun activities and here are some tips for making the most of each:

Frozen” Royal Welcome (10:30 am and 1:30 pm) – Hollywood Boulevard

Frozen Summer Fun 2015 Disney's Hollywood Studios Walt Disney World

The “Frozen” Royal Welcome is your chance to see Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf, and their friends as they make their way into Hollywoodland to join the “Frozen” Summer Fun Festivities.

Frozen Summer Fun 2015 Disney's Hollywood Studios Walt Disney World

The parade begins near the entrance of the park as Royal Arendelle Flag Corps lead the procession as Princess Anna arrives in a horse-drawn sleigh, Kristoff and his ice cutters follow, before skiers clear a path for Olaf to visit, and then a flurry of skaters show Queen Elsa down Hollywood Boulevard.

Frozen Summer Fun 2015 Disney's Hollywood Studios Walt Disney World

The entire procession pauses twice along the route as guests in Hollywoodland are invited to join in singing “Let It Go!”

Frozen Summer Fun 2015 Disney's Hollywood Studios Walt Disney World

You will want to grab a spot on the early side if you want to have a prime spot near one of the two parade stops. The best “Frozen” Royal Welcome Spots are near the large screen along Hollywood Boulevard (for the best Olaf views) or near the sound tent for Center Stage (for the best Elsa views).

Olaf’s Summer Cool Down (11:30 am, 12:30 pm, 2:30 pm, 3:30 pm, 4:30 pm, and 5:30 pm) – Center Stage

Having always dreamed of being in “snow business,” Olaf is joined by some of his summery friends to sing his famed number, “In Summer,” inviting the audience to join in. Then, Olaf sends a flurry from his personal snow cloud out over the audience in an icy blast.

Frozen Summer Fun 2015 Disney's Hollywood Studios Walt Disney World

Since this show is performed on Center Stage, there is little to no shade so my best tip is to stand as long as you can and then catch the rest of the show as you pass by during the day.

I definitely wouldn’t skip it, but if it is blazing hot I won’t judge you for catching the show in bits and pieces.

For the First Time in Forever: A “Frozen” Sing-Along Celebration (Several Times a Day with FP+ Availability) – Hyperion Theater

While the Royal Historians of Arendelle host this fun and comedic retelling of the unique story of their kingdom is unchanged, the all-new in-theater effects and special appearances by Anna, Elsa and Kristoff are outstanding.

Frozen Summer Fun 2015 Disney's Hollywood Studios Walt Disney World

If you can grab a FastPass+, do so! You won’t regret catching the show again for the new effects, and the AC is an especially nice treat.

Frozen Fever (Continuous loop) – ABC Sound Studio

Twice each hour beginning at 10 a.m. daily, guests also can view a showing of the new animated short, “Frozen Fever,” which debuted in theaters with Disney’s live-action “Cinderella,” and a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film inside the ABC Sound Studio.

Frozen Summer Fun 2015 Disney's Hollywood Studios Walt Disney World

Again, this is a great way to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the park in the cool air.

Coolest Summer Ever” Dance Party (5:45 – 9:30 pm) – Center Stage

Once the sun goes down, DJ Chill and some favorite Disney Characters take to the stage to host the “Coolest Summer Ever” Dance Party.

Frozen Summer Fun 2015 Disney's Hollywood Studios Walt Disney World

What I super love about this year’s Dance Party, is that there are characters in the crowd dancing with the guests.

Frozen” Fireworks Spectacular (9:30 pm) – Center Stage

As the night comes to a close, Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf come together at the Event Stage for a grand finale to the day’s festivities, kicking off an awe-inspiring “Frozen” Fireworks display set to the music of “Frozen” and, of course, a flurry of snow!

Frozen Summer Fun 2015 Disney's Hollywood Studios Walt Disney World

I usually try to watch the show from as far back as possible, however these fireworks are woven pretty tightly with the stage show so being close has some great perks.

Frozen” Themed Photopass Spots

There are two new “Frozen” themed Photopass spots, and they are both a lot of fun.

Located just outside of the entrance to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you will find a “Frozen” Summer Fun Sand Sculpture.

Frozen Summer Fun 2015 Disney's Hollywood Studios Walt Disney World

Then just along the banks of Echo Lake, there is a Photopass spot that ‘Rocks’…don’t believe the Trolls it’s not a bit of a fixer-upper.

Frozen Summer Fun 2015 Disney's Hollywood Studios Walt Disney World

There is also a “Frozen” Summer Fun Premium Package option for guests to purchase at an additional cost that includes reserved viewing for the Frozen Royal Welcome complete with regal refreshments of water, soft drinks, and ice cream; reserved seating for a showing of For the First Time In Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration; and Frozen Fireworks viewing paired with a Frozen-themed dessert party complete with specialty desserts, cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages. Cost is $69 for adults and $39 for children ages 3-9 (tax and gratuity included). Reservations can be made online at DisneyWorld.com or by calling 407-939-3463.

I had a great day of “Frozen” Summer Fun, and I can’t wait to go back again!

Orlando City SC to host Columbus Crew SC in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16

Orlando City SC will face Columbus Crew SC on June 30 at the Orlando Citrus Bowl in the Round of 16 of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The match-up was determined by a live draw by U.S. Soccer held in Chicago earlier today. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

The match against the Crew SC will be included in the 2015 season ticket package.

Individual tickets will go on sale on Friday, June 19. Please visit www.orlandocitysc.com or call 855-ORL-CITY.

The Lions advanced to the Round of 16 by defeating former USL foes Charleston Battery 8-7 after ten rounds of penalty kicks, following a 4-4 tie in regulation at Blackbaud Stadium. City holds a 9-4-0 all-time record in the U.S. Open Cup, dating back to the 2011 campaign.

The Lions have never faced the Crew SC in U.S. Open Cup play, but both clubs have rapidly formed an intense rivalry following two matches in Major League Soccer (MLS) play. In their first matchup, Orlando City played with 10 men for the majority of the match, and suffered a 3-0 loss at MAPFRE Stadium. In May, it was Columbus who played a man down at the Orlando Citrus Bowl, battling the Lions to a 2-2 draw in a very heated and tense contest.

In 2013, Orlando City defeated the Colorado Rapids and 2012 champions Sporting Kansas City en route to a quarter-final appearance against five time Open Cup Champions Chicago Fire – the Club’s furthest run in the tournament.

To purchase group or individual tickets, or to join the 2016 Season Ticket waitlist visit www.OrlandoCitySC.com or call 855-ORL-CITY.

Also, follow the latest Orlando City news and updates via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.

During that time, the Lions won three regular season titles and two postseason championships.

In MLS, the team draws an average of over 35,770 fans per home game – including 62,500 for its home opener – a record for an expansion team in its first six stand-alone home games. A Peek Inside Inside Out

Inside_Out_(2015_film)_poster

For countless centuries humankind has strived to unlock the mysteries of the mind, only to discover is that while we can speculate and conclude, we may never truly know what goes makes us all tick.  That’s not to say we don’t have an idea of how we work, after all we’re the ones who live this life and somehow we get through just fine without truly knowing how we do it.  What we generally find is that, at the end of the day, the cliche is true, “we’re all human”.  Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc., Up) takes all these swirling notions, and… emotions and turns them into the beautifully clever movie Inside Out.

In Inside Out, Docter sets out to answer for us that ageless question of, “What’s going on inside that head of yours?” Great effort was made by Docter to take concepts by both Freud and Jung and combine them into something easily digestible by audiences, as their concepts are often quite convoluted, conflicting, and complimentary at the same time.  That’s not an easy task, some people spend their entire thesis trying to sort such things out.  To do this he reached back to one of his earlier works that many might be familiar with Cranium Command.

To do this the movie is set inside the mind of Riley, an 11 year old girl (based on both Docter himself and his daughter) whose life is drastically changed when her family moves from Minnesota to San Francisco.  Much like Cranium Command, Riley’s mind, and similarly those of her parents, dogs, cats, etc. are all controlled from a control room, Headquarters, by her emotions Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust.  In fact, even the teaser poster for the movie resembles the logo for the closed attraction. Their job is to help define and maintain Riley’s personality.  They do this by creating and storing core memories which drive the aspects of that personality.

Unfortunately, after moving, Riley’s once “perfect” world starts to fall apart under her and she has to learn to cope with the changes and learn to incorporate them into who she is, rather than let them ruin her life.  As Riley’s world starts to fall apart, so do the core aspects of her personality, depicted as floating island “lands” from a theme park, including a familiar “hub & spoke” design where Headquarters is the Hub.  Those lands crumble, and fall into an abyss of lost and forgotten memories.

The emotions look to Joy, their leader and Riley’s first emotion, to solve the problem.  From there things start to go wrong as Riley’s core memories are rejected by the system in Headquarters and through a series of mishaps both Joy and Sadness are whisked off with those core memories to long term memory with no way back to Headquarters.  Leaving Fear, Anger, and Disgust in control.  From there things turn sour for quite a bit for both groups, and this reflects to Riley in the real world.  Thankfully with the help of one of Riley’s imaginary friend Bing Bong things eventually get fixed, and Riley learns to accept, and move on.

Inside Out great, if not fantastic.  While I wouldn’t consider it Pixar’s best work it is near the top.  It’s extremely clever, with some amazing throw away lines mostly at Jung’s expense.  Everyone who has grown up, become a teenager, lived through a life altering change, etc. should relate to this movie.  In other words, pretty much everyone on the planet.  Something so relatable is really the pinnacle of every artist, and this might come to be known as Docter’s pinnacle work.  Go see Inside Out, you’re going to enjoy experiencing these emotions.

In addition to doing the web design and programming for the On the Go in MCO website, Todd Perlmutter is a host for the Disney Film Project Podcast.

Exploring Harambe Market

A welcome new addition opened recently in the Africa section of Animal Kingdom: Harambe Market.

DSC00368 DSC00386 Entrance

This area is located near the entrance to the Wildlife Express train and around the corner from Kilimanjaro Safaris. I’ve had the opportunity to check it out twice now and I immediately fell in love with the immersive theming, just like with the rest of the park. The food that I tried was pretty great too.

Constructed around an old colonial-era train depot and lorded over by an iconic water tower, this active marketplace showcases distinct personalities and diverse menus—created using produce and raw goods delivered daily by the local locomotive.

Here, the citizens of Harambe welcome travelers from all around the world, encouraging Guests of every age to tantalize their senses. (Disney)

httpv://youtu.be/nhj8AZhevvs

There are four different food and beverage booths.

Here are the menus from each (click on the picture to look closer):

On my first visit, I tried the beef flatbread from the Grill. I really enjoyed the flatbread and the broccoli that came with it had a really refreshing dressing on it. On the second visit, I tried the ribs and the tart from Chef Mwanga’s. The ribs were very good and very large! The tart was fantastic if you like coconut, which I do! Both of these were easily split between two people, especially the ribs.

While the food is great, the best part about this new area is the theming. It really seems to expand the “story” of Harambe Village. There are posters on the walls advertising local businesses and even a show you may have seen – Festival of the Lion King. There is a small flea market set up by the train tracks with clothing and kitchen ware. You’ll even find a few hidden (or not-so-hidden) Mickeys! There is even a small garden near the entrance to the market. Below are some of my favorite details – yes, there are a few!

There is still one more store to explore. Zuri’s Sweets is by the garden and opened this week so I’ll be checking it out over the weekend. Look for a report on that soon!
