2015 Epcot Food And Wine Festival: 9 Things To Eat and Drink

With so many great things to choose from at this year’s Epcot Food and Wine Festival, it was really wonderful to be able to attend a brunch held by Walt Disney World to try some of this year’s food items and beverages.

So what are we waiting for?

9 Things to Eat and Drink at the 2015 Epcot Food and Wine Festival:

1.2015 Epcot Food and Wine Festival - Loaded Mac and Cheese

You have to give the Loaded mac n’ cheese with Nueske’s® pepper bacon, cheddar cheese, peppers and green onions from Farm Fresh a try! Do you want to know what is wrong with this mac n’ cheese? Nothing! Get one ASAP! ($4.25)

2.2015 Epcot Food and Wine Festival - Belgium Waffle

The Belgium waffle with berry compote and whipped cream in Belgium is always on my ‘Must Eat’ list, because it is just the right size and sweetness level to round out the savory dishes I tend to purchase during the Epcot Food and Wine Festival. This dish is Vegetarian. ($3.75)

3. 2015 Epcot Food and Wine Festival - Hidden Gem

The Escondidinho de carne, “Little Hidden One”, a layered meat pie with mashed yucca, available in Brazil has a cute name and a familiar, homey taste. This item is gluten free. ($5.00)

4. 2015 Epcot Food and Wine Festival - Flan

Now if I had to chose one dessert to eat for the rest of the Epcot Food and Wine Festival, the Caramel flan with rum-roasted pineapple from Dominican Republic would be my choice. The flan is light and airy, and the pineapple adds a great pop of acidity. This dish is vegetarian. ($3.25)

5. 2015 Epcot Food and Wine Festival - Shrimp Australia

Love some ‘Shrimp on the Barbie’? The Grilled sweet and spicy bush berry shrimp with pineapple, peppers, onions, and snap peas from Australia is a lovely mix of flavors that you won’t want to pass up. This dish is gluten free.($4.75)

6. 2015 Epcot Food and Wine Festival - Smoking Hibiscus

For those of you who love the liquid nitrogen craze, this year that a ‘smoking’ beverage is available on the promenade. The Smoking Hibiscus featuring Montelobos Mezcal Joven from the chew lab is an Alcoholic Beverage that is incredibly refreshing. And don’t forget to give the hibiscus bud a try! ($8.75)

7. 2015 Epcot Food and Wine Festival - Sparerib

New to the Epcot Food and Wine Festival this year is the Sustainable Chew, and their Pork Spareribs with red wine, fennel, and cheesy mascarpone grits does not disappoint. The fresh herbs cut through the smoke of the meat and add a great pop to the creamy grits. This dish is gluten free. ($5.50)

8. 2015 Epcot Food and Wine Festival - Yuca

I have something to say…I love Yuca! The Soufflé de yuca: Yuca soufflé topped with griddled cheese from Dominican Republic is crazy! The firm griddled cheese with the creamy and slightly sharp yucca soufflé was an interesting and tasty combination. This dish is vegetarian. ($4.75)

9. 2015 Epcot Food and Wine Festival - Chewtini

I saved the best for last… My favorite alcoholic beverage at the Epcot Food and Wine Festival is the Frozen Chew-tini from Sustainable Chew! It has a great consistency, slightly sweet taste, and crunch from an apple chip garnish. Be warned…these bad boys are dangerous! ($7.50)

We will be bringing you more coverage of this year’s Epcot Food and Wine Festival, so make sure you follow our adventures on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook!

A Visit to Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar

Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, located between Paradiso 37 and The BOATHOUSE Restaurants at Disney Springs, opened yesterday with much confetti, drinks, delicious food, and good times!

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar - Ribbon Cutting

With indoor and outdoor seating available, Jock Lindsey’s Hangar bar is a 150-seat lounge open to those of all ages that is bursting at the seams with mementos from Jock’s Travels.

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar - Interior Panoramic

While the details are largely influenced by the Indiana Jones series, if you look closely enough you can find Star Wars, Marvel, and even the former Adventurers Club nods in the decor.

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar - Adventurer's Club Nod

So who is Jock Lindsey?

His name may sound familiar, because he often served as a frequent pilot to Indiana Jones.

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar - Jock Lindsey Trophy

In the 1940’s Jock made a home at this waterfront property after discovering this charming little town while flying Indiana Jones over the Sunshine State in search of the elusive Fountain of Youth in 1938. As a member of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers, Jock often welcomed his globetrotting friends to his hangar for a drink and fun times.

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar - Landing Front Page

The food and beverage menu at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar bar offers a wide assortment of choices with nods to Indiana Jones and his adventures.

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar - Place Setting

There are four cocktails that feature either a specialty glass or stirrer.

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar - Specialty Drinks

While these glasses are featured on the menu, they aren’t available at the bar yet. The drinks were delicious, but we’ll have to go back for another ‘research’ visit for photos. It’s a hard life…

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar - Reggie's Revenge

The food at Jock Lindsey’s features excotic small plates and more substantial appetizers that are perfect for sharing.

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar- Menu

I tried Dr. Elsa’s She-Deviled Eggs, and they feature eggs that have been brined in beet juice with lump crab filling. The texture of the eggs, at first, is really different due to the crab, but the wasabi and beet tones are super tasty!

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar - Dr Elisa's She-Deviled Eggs Alone

The “Good” Dates feature goat cheese-stuffed dates with Marcona almonds nestled on a pile of pickled veggies.

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar - Good Dates

The Snack of Ra gives a taste of Africa with salads and dips served with injera (bread) and naan crisps. This is a rather large plate that is perfect for sharing!

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar - Snack of Ra

I really loved how the pretzels come in a whimsical airplane set-up with house-made mustard and beer-cheese fondue.

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar - Air Pirate's Pretzels

My absolute favorite dish was the Rolling Boulder Sliders with three spice meatballs on mini-buns with yogurt sauce. Watch out though, because they have quite a kick!

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar- Rolling Boulder Sliders

You can also enjoy the Brody Brats, a pile of grilled bratwurst with mustard, pickles, and pickled cabbage.

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar - Brody's Brats

And “Squid! Why’d It Have to Be Squid” is fried calamari flatbread with spicy harissa that has a really exotic look.

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar - Squid! Why'd it have to be squid

We really had a great time at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, and I will definitely be returning!

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar - Anything goes and She-Deviled Eggs

Jock Lindsey’s opens daily at 11:30 am, and when you check in make sure that you give them your cell phone number because they are the first location at Walt Disney World to use a new system of alerting you of estimated wait times and availability of seating.

A Huge Thanks to Tom and WDWNT for letting me take pictures of their food!!!

“Our mission at Khan Academy is a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere,” said Sal Khan, Founder and CEO of the not-for-profit Khan Academy. “Sparking student interest in math and other academic fields is a key part of that, and we’re delighted to collaborate with Pixar to achieve this goal. Pixar in a Box gives students a new way to engage with key academic concepts and see how creative these concepts can be.”

Khan Academy Pixar in A Box

Students can access Pixar in a Box and learn:

· How combinatorics are used to create crowds, like the swarm of robots in WALLŸE.

· How parabolas are used to model environments, like the forest in Brave.

· How weighted averages are used to create characters, like Buzz Lightyear and Woody.

· How linear and cubic interpolation are used to animate characters.

· How trigonometry is used to create the worlds in which Pixar stories take place.

· How simultaneous equations are used to paint all of Pixar’s images.

“Learning makes us beginners again,” said Ed Catmull, President of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios.  “In my experience, creativity involves missteps and imperfections, which is one more reason it is important for every one of us to keep learning – in order to remain flexible and keep our brains nimble.   By working with Khan Academy on Pixar in a Box, we hope to encourage the excitement of learning and creative thinking for middle and high school students and to provide the tools to do it.”

Khan Academy Pixar in A Box

“For years, we’ve heard from teachers at every grade level interested in creating animation-based curricula,” said Elyse Klaidman, Director, Pixar University and Archives.  “We’ve wanted to provide free online resources for them, and Pixar in a Box makes that dream a reality. We hope that it not only gives students a behind-the-scenes look at how our movies are made but also gets them excited about STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) concepts.”

I can’t wait to show Zoe Khan Academy’s Pixar in a Box program! I think that she is going to absolutely flip her lid!!!

All Pixar in a Box resources are available free of charge at PixarInABox.org. The site will be updated as additional lessons become available.

The Jungle Book Trailer And Images Are Here! #JungleBook

The Jungle Book Poster

Disney’s The Jungle Book will swing into theaters on April 15, 2016, and today I am really excited to share more about the story, some new images, and the brand new trailer!

httpv://youtu.be/HcgJRQWxKnw

The Jungle Book is directed by Jon Favereau (“Iron Man”), and is based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories that is also inspired by Disney’s classic animated film with a cast that is absolutely fantastic!

“The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves.

But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat.

The Jungle Book

Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray).

Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johansson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire.

The Jungle Book

The all-star cast also includes Lupita Nyong’o as the voice of the fiercely protective mother wolf Raksha, and Giancarlo Esposito as the voice of wolf pack’s alpha male Akela.

The Jungle Book
Neel Sethi, now 11, was selected from thousands of candidates following a worldwide search for the perfect man-cub.

“The Jungle Book” seamlessly blends live-action with photorealistic CGI animals and environments, using up-to-the-minute technology and storytelling techniques to immerse audiences in an enchanting and lush world.

The Jungle Book wild adventure swings into theaters in 3D on April 15, 2016, but for more information:

Jungle Cruise Breakfast at Disneyland

Recently Disneyland announced they’d be adding a new meal experience at the Jungle Cruise in Adventureland. This Jungle Cruise breakfast goes for $300. per guest (including tax and gratuity) and also includes the chance to helm one of the Jungle Cruise boats while reciting skippers’ lines. Also, as a souvenir, guests will receive a tiki mask reminiscent of those seen on the ride. The Jungle Cruise Sunrise Safari Breakfast will be served in the African section of the attraction, and will take place on select days between September 21 and December 2, 2015.

This got me thinking, what if we had this here at Walt Disney World, but not in the Jungle Cruise? Where would I like to have the meal, and what themed souvenir would I pair with it?

In the Magic Kingdom, I’d like a dinner in the Carousel of Progress Christmas scene. I know this may not be particularly original since there’s already a dining room table and kitchen there, but I think it would be fun. As a take home souvenir, I’d like one of the Mickey Mouse nutcrackers from the mantle of the living room.

At Epcot I think I’d most enjoy a meal in the Living with the Land attraction. I’d want to set up right near the pretty little waterfall just across the water so I could enjoy the view while having a meal featuring foods from the Land. I think it would be cool to get a ceramic replica of the Mickey pumpkins they grow, along with the plastic mold and pumpkin seeds.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios presents a bit more of a challenge. I’ve both been to dinners in attractions and known friends who have been to meals in others. I would love to eat in the Great Movie Ride, but I know that’s a real thing, so I don’t want to cop out. I will go with one of the best themed Disney attractions anywhere, the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. I think it would be amazing to have an outdoor meal on the terrace part of the extended outdoor queue, or in the ballroom that we don’t see other than the door as you exit the ride into the gift shop. For a souvenir from the Hollywood Tower Hotel, I’d love a plate setting maybe minus the silverware.

Even though it is open to the elements, at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, I would select a nice alfresco meal in the Maharajah Jungle Trek between the tiger enclosures. Like one of my favorite restaurants, Sanaa, this would offer a fantastic view of the animals. I believe a replica of one of the beautiful bird cages along the trek would make a great souvenir. There’s a bright red and gold one I’d particularly fancy.

If you were to choose to have a meal in a Walt Disney World attraction, other than the Jungle Cruise since we are getting the new Skipper Canteen later this year, what would you pick? What would your souvenir be? Are you doing the meal in Disneyland? If so, please let us know.
